Every year, around this time, I get a little blue. I think it's got to do with being so far from the sun. Am I nutts?

I think a lot of it might have to do with the weather and not getting enough sun(vitamin D). Over here in Washington, especially near the Puget Sound, people have higher percentages of depression than in other states. I'm close to the Puget Sound and we barely get any sun during this time. Can you imagine what it's like during the wintertime? Not fun. 3
Doctors recommend that us Washingtonians near Seattle and such need to be taking vitamin D supplements daily, lest we deal with multiple and long bouts of depression. Thanks, Northwest. lol

sayaaya213 I don't remember specifically if sunlight has an effect but I do tend to notice that those who do get more sunlight than others tend to be happier...I wonder if anyone has done a study on this yet... There are a lot of studies that show how sunlight affects mood, and how it triggers vitamin D synthesis. It's something that has been proven a long time ago. In fact, sunlight can be a major source of vitamin D for many people. Sadly, vitamin D can only be attained through ultraviolet B rays, and ultraviolet B rays can be bad for the skin if one is exposed to them for a long time. If one wears sunscreen, one needs to take vitamin D supplements, because sunscreen blocks UVB rays, which in turn stops vitamin D synthesis.

There is actually a source of vitamin D that animals can obtain but humans cannot utilize because it cannot be digested...hay...seriously...it provides vitamin D for ruminants and horses...but ti doesn't answer the question of whether or not Vitamin D has an effect on moods or if it's sunlight alone...though it's interesting to consider people with cabin fever for the topic...

Strict Envy An all day seminar for what? Ironically I was asked to give a seminar on horses covering everything from handling, grooming, riding, gestation and foaling, horsemanship, common diseases and ailments and first aid to my classmates...it was kind of awkward but it was fun...
