Greetings all, I am doing a wee bit of research for a possible story or detailed RP game. It would be a school for mages, and I figured I would ask people who might actually know what they are talking about.
What are some categories of magic you think students would have to learn?
They are going to be humans with no specific innate talents when it comes to magic. There will be 4 levels of proficiency, apprentice, journeyman, adept, and master, to progress to each level, they would have to master the skills in each category and the categories would be the same for each level, just more difficult, for example, Summoning. Apprentices would work with animals, Journeymen, with Elemental, Adepts with Fay, and Masters with Higher (Divine) Beings... but with Fay and especially divine beings, it would be more if Inviting than Summoning, but its in the same category.

I went to a school that covered magic topics along with gen ed topics. Our school offered the following: grounding, energy manipulation, elemental basics, deities of the area, ritual basics, and meditation. There were more, but those were the most common ones.
