There was something marvelous about meeting with long standing friends; Zion and Camelot enjoyed such a friendship. In trying times and celebrations they would seek each other out. A simple meeting over tea, relaxing from their training, their duties to share simple and complex things like likes and dislikes.
It was fairly normal for Zion to be the one to bring the tea, call it a tradition of trained palate.

Camelot had made his efforts but on each of the handful of occasions that he had picked the tea, rather than his friend, it had been something, well, rather terrible to taste. Medicinal at best, mud in a cup at the worst.

So to spare them both, the meeting had been planned, the tea had been prepared, a small picnic really and, arriving early, as he was prone to do Zion, also known as Bran found himself a seat. It had been a long day and he rather needed one.

Talfrid had not understood the concept of friendship before he met Zion. That was not fair to say, actually. He had never known that such a concept even existed. He knew now, though, and he liked that knowledge. He worried that it might make him weaker, giving him something his enemies might be able to target.

But then, if he was really good at his job, no one would ever know it was him.

He was still learning, of course, but he had gotten over the most awkward transition from isolated killing-machine to slightly socialized knight in training. He was still terrible at picking tea, though, and knew that. He was glad to see everything was already prepared when he got there.

He wasn't very good at making tea, either.

Talfrid moved to join his friend, sitting down quickly. He had a strange expression on his face, confused and a little distracted.

“Are you alright?” It was the first question out of Zion’s mouth, not even a greeting just…that. He was always a little awkward in his own right, more so with women who largely seemed to make him uneasy. Ironic given he’d left a patriarchal world to serve a matriarchal one.

“You have… such a look on your face, what happened?” He sat up looking worried.

He’d actually brought a small portable tea set today, determined to teach Camelot the proper method of tea steeping if nothing else, The man had an excellent sense of timing, so it was somewhat baffling to realize that he hadn’t a knack for timing tea.

“… Did someone beat you at sparing?” He tilted his head slightly, the first guess and in his mind the most obvious. Camelot exceled at fights, and had proved so time and time again since they had met. Zion had gotten better at what he did, but all the same, so had Camelot.

Talfrid shook his head slowly. He wasn't sure how to explain it. He nodded at the tea.

"No, no one beat me at a fight. I was walking and I saw..." He frowned. It sounded silly in his head and he did not really want to say it out loud. It made him sound like a little kid, who did not understand the simplest of things. But, in a way, he sort of still was.

He was learning about the world after being 'sheltered' through his upbringing. In that he had been kept away from the world to focus solely on training and becoming an assassin. So things like friendship, as he had learned, were strange to him. But there was still more he needed to learn about.

"A woman. I could not look at her for long, it made my stomach feel strange. I wonder if she had some sort of magic, or if perhaps she is a knight in training as well."

Zion poured the tea as he listened, though what was said made him pause. He tilted his head, a birdlike motion, studious and thoughtful as he handed a prepared cup to his friend.

“Made you feel funny… in your stomach.” He said carefully. “Was she pretty?” He asked, and hoped that Talfrid wouldn’t dissect the idea of pretty as well. “I mean, was she nice to look at other than making your stomach ‘feel funny’, if you hadn’t felt strange looking at her, might you have kept watching?”

He prepared his own tea before adding. “Many find that pretty women do have a sort of magic over them.” He gave a small smirk of amusement at his own little joke about Talfrid’s lack of understanding.

“I’d bet you just find she tickles your fancy as they say, remember…how I told you I ‘fancied’ that one young man from Jupiter?” he waved a hand trying to explain.

Talfrid looked thoughtful, concentrating on the tea that was being poured and thinking back to his fleeting encounter with the woman of Earth. She had not seen him, he imagined, and he had not said anything to her so it hardly counted as an encounter.

Still.

"Yes, she was," he decided. He had not been around women enough to feel attraction to them, or anyone else. His life was not one of comfort, at least not before he had joined the academy and started a freer leg of his journey and training. But then he had become all about his studies and training, and even then failed to see the temptations around him.

He knew pretty women existed, and he knew what other men would do for them. He understood their allure in a scholarly sense, and knew that they could be used against men if it was needed. But he had never felt such a strange pull before. He had never seen a woman that somehow seemed set apart from the rest, as this one had.

"I recall, yes. So that feeling. That feeling is similar to what you experienced then? But I have not met her before, indeed I have still not met her. What if I do not see her again?"

“If you don’t see her again, then…that is what happens.” He shrugged softly. “You might try and find out her name, and locate her from there if you wanted to speak to her. Mind you…speak to her, don’t…follow her around, that’s to be reserved for our little hunting games in the woods, NOT for young women who don’t know you’re doing it.” He was sadly earnest in his warning, strange to realize someone that there were people in the world who interacted with people with less skill than he did.

He sipped at his tea thoughtfully and hummed softly. “You should…talk to her, just…get to know her if you meet again, see what she likes. Things like…tea, and flowers. Women like flowers! Daphne likes…daisies.” He said trying to explain. “See? You gather intel on them…sort of. But not to be hostile, not to fight her, just to know her. She might ask about you in turn, and since you –like- her, its considered polite to share information in return. Like you do with me… except, that I don’t think you quite fancy kissing me.”

It was a good thing Bran added not to follow her around or hunt her down, as Talfrid was already considering bending his target hunting skills toward this task of finding this woman again, to see if she made his stomach flip again. It was an addictive feeling, and he wanted to see if it would happen again.

And he wanted to know her name.

"I will not follow her," he said with a nod, a promise between future knights. He meant it seriously, as well. He imagined his friend knew that Talfrid could stalk someone if he wanted to, but it really wasn't the right situation for that.

He nodded his head, as if he were taking this as serious as any other lesson to improve himself as a fighter, only this was for his people skills. Which were lacking, outside of interaction with a very select number of people.

"Kiss you? Am I supposed to kiss her?" His train of thought was derailed at the very idea, and that look of distracted confusion returned to his face.

“We…err…hmm” He hesitated. “Perhaps you should let her be the one to initiate a kiss, then you’ll be sure she wants one. It would be… bad if you try and kiss her and she wasn’t interested. There are after all women who only like other women.” He did after all want to prepare Camelot for the worst, just in case. If…you both want to kiss each other…then she should show similar… signs, as you’ll be feeling. Watch her face…see if she is happy? But it will take time, consider getting to know her kind of like… ah… like how I leaned to hide better, You need to practice before you are good enough to be able to…approach kissing her.

He looked thoughtful for a moment. “Ah… look, would you like ME to try and find her and then introduce you two? Perhaps it will work well if she knows ahead of time that you aren’t…accustomed to other people?”

Talfrid looked a little confused, and tried to decide if this was a good idea.

"You want to meet her for me? Would she not find that strange?" He shook his head slowly. "Perhaps I will try to speak with her and if I cannot... overcome that strange feeling, then I may come and ask you for help. I am a knight, I should not be felled by... by a pretty woman. I should be able to get near to her, and speak to her."

Even if he was bad at conversation, he should still be able to have bad conversation with her, right?

It seemed reasonable enough.

"I am sorry to have brought this to you, I do not think you wished to try and deal with my... inability to understand the simplest of things." He went to Zion with all of his questions about being a normal person, basically. It was where he, Talfrid, failed the most and he knew he could trust his friend not to tease him or think him weak for it.

“If you continue to down play yourself, I will throw my tea at you.” He said succinctly. “It’s not your fault that you haven’t been…exposed to the kind of situations that you are just now learning to deal with. “ he shook his head and then added. “It’s also not so very strange. I have several books that people have written about romances and sometimes, it is done that a person is introduced to the person they are curious about by a third party. Sometimes they use that as a foil for storytelling, but to be sure I won’t be trying to be romantic in any way.” He did look pleased though.

“I think it’s good that you will try to speak to her yourself though, I think it will be good practice for you Perhaps she will make you more comfortable in dealing with people if you speak to her. I just…wish that I were better at it too, Daphne would be the best but she’s so busy right now.”

"I don't want to bother her, with something like this."

He had the feeling Daphne would find it all very amusing. He was embarrassed enough, and something in him said that women would side with one another, while men were more understanding. At least, in his slight experience that was how it seemed to work.

He would stick with Bran being the only one aware of his plight with the ladies, or at least this particular lady, for now.

"Thank you for your help," he said, getting more used to saying that, to things like smiling and being at ease. He was softening, maybe, but he didn't notice it. As long as he kept winning his sparring matches and topping his classes, he wouldn't notice either.
