So, I just posted this huge rant on Tumblr after seeing one too many posts on the topic of abortion. I just got so fed up with it all. I've never been one to join in the discussion when it comes to that particular topic, and so many of the people I follow on Tumblr have been posting about it--all pro-life stuff--that I just couldn't stand it anymore.

The thing is, I thought ranting was supposed to be cathartic. Y'know, get all that weight off my chest, right? Wrong. Now I can't stop thinking about it. I can't stop thinking about how much I hate people trying to convince me that it's wrong to do something. How much I hate that the people who post these things in the first place, and the people who reblog them or share them, are really nothing more than evangelists. "Think this way. It's the right thing to think." I was raised in a religion that doesn't proselytize or evangelize. I went to a religious school where I was taught to respect other religions and cultures and not think that any one belief system was the best. I was taught to think for myself and even question the god I believe in. So when people try to tell me, through words or images or whatever media they use, that abortion is wrong; that it's a sin; that it's taking an innocent life (which, yes, I do believe a fetus is indeed alive once it develops a heartbeat) I don't appreciate it at all. Understatement of the year.

There are so many reasons that a woman might get an abortion, and in my opinion, the people who push the pro-life aspect of such a sensitive issue aren't taking those reasons into account. This is a generalization, of course. I'm sure at least one pro-lifer thinks about the reasons.

Ugh. And now I've gone back onto that tangent. See what I mean? My rant on Tumblr was supposed to calm me down, but instead it revved me up even worse. I think I need some help...

For some people, ranting helps. On an issue like abortion, though, it can be hard. People sometimes get settled in their respective camps and start shouting at the other side about how wrong their perspective is. They close their minds to other arguments, and stop listening to anyone that doesn't already agree with them.

Maybe that's what's getting to you?

That might be what's getting to me, but I really don't know. Thanks for listening, though.

I am still not really into birth control and abortions but not because I think its morally wrong. I think people have the right to them but does the government, as in the U.S., have to pay for it? That's my only quibble with the issue because if you get pregnant save for cases of rape or sexual assault its your fault not the government's.

But again religious zealots are really annoying at times especially when they try to interfere with civil and political rights. The 1st amendment involves the Freedom of speech not freedom of fear mongering and hate.
