It's just funny how the public views martial arts as just another thing.

There's a difference between someone pretending they can make a child into a fighter and someone who believe MA is more than that.
Had I taken even a basic karate class as a child, I know now I would have had more confidence when dealing with people and with difficult situations. I would have had more faith in my ability to learn new things. I wouldn't have allowed incidents in my childhood to happen.
No I wouldn't have been able to fight very well and punches and kicks, forget it.
But I'd have held my head a little higher.
So long as a children's class is honest about its intentions - to teach self respect, discipline and confidence without being brattish, then it is fine with me.

well said, kids do gain a lot from MA training, but I draw the line at kid black belts or even senior colours

If I ever did a kid's class, I'd probably just have kiddie belts. They need them because with their minimal attention span, they do need something close by to aim for. But they would unrelated to the school sashes. I'd just point out the 'grown ups' have four sashes, each with four levels, so so could they in different colours.
Problem with kid's classes though is you got parents using you as a babysitter, not picking the kids up on time, forcing the kids to attend... I couldn't mediate all that without being rude. (ie: "be a parent you ignorant mofo...")
