Character Name
Name: Joscelin
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Candidate: Yes
Craft/Rank: Scribe / Journey man (He sorts out paper work! Give him all of your paperwork.)
Appearance: Joscelin is an aristocratic carrot top. His hair is a strange nearly unnatural shade of burnish red, like molten copper wires. He has pale porcelain shaded skin with a full pouty lower lip. He has a thin straight nose, and fine arching brows the same shade of his hair. His eye lashes are thick and his eyes slightly large for his face and honey gold in color. He is thin, a scholar build, with long finger hands. His clothing tends to be in shades flattering to his skin and curly hair, mainly shades of brown, yellows, and creams and accented with either simple metallic jewelry or black and paler red accessories.
In all, he is a pretty young man with good taste and expensive clothing. He is always well dress and usually works in a long white coat and apron when in the records. Ink and dust are not his friends.
Personality: Conceited, 'Clearly, you haven't met me. That's alright lovely, we can fix that.' Joscelin thinks he is hot stuff, even if he is a simple scribe in a prison complex. While his job is important to the everyday tasks of wardens; 'it not like the guards have the intelligence let alone the tenacity to correctly file the forms', he tends to consider himself on par with M'onk. Whatz? lol, Jos, just yeah. 'He is old. Clearly I am more superior, being in the prime of my life.' He is an arrogant, fanciful young man, who is clever with paperwork. He also has very gorgeous legible handwriting.
Charming, being the only son out of eight and the youngest at that, Joscelin can turn on the charm among the ladies. They also scare the crap out of him. After turns of being dressed up and hearing more than he ever wanted about the female reproductive system and sex in general. Women are scary, manipulative tunnel snakes who can keep care of themselves and never, ever mention anything about their monthlies and keep a supply of sweets on hand to bribe them. Also never mention their weight or stare at their boobs. Breasts are evil and will make you say stupid things. Your boobs are huge is not a compliment. Do not say it! Ever.
Awkward, while he can be rather charming among the women, he is unsure and stiff among men. His father was a trader and not home often and his mother was more focus on raising her show caprines then making sure her son had a male role model. He talks a lot more about himself when faced with men then with women. He also tries to be charming, but that also a good way to get hit because for some reason they thing he wants into their pants. Umm... let's not go there.
Focused. Joscelin is deeply focused in his work. The world narrows down to volumes of books, neat stacks of paper and the smell of ground ink and the scratching of his quill. He takes pride in his work and attempts to keep his work neat, organized, and perfect. He is more at home, sorting through files and writing forms than anywhere else in the prison. Likely because filling out a form never changes, it is familiar work and has a set of rules. He is not really big on change.
History: Joscelin family is well off. With the end of the thread it allowed for rapid expansion. Trees were cleared and the population moved away from the holds. Trader caravan no longer had to worry about planning for thread.
His parents were an arranged marriage that worked out alright. Nicu would have her farm to raise caprines and raise their children and he would travel and bring back exotic items. Things were going fine, except they had seven daughters and not a single son. Joscelin was born late to an middle age mother. Nicu was nearly forty and tired as her last child took an extra three weeks to lounge before making an appearance. They actually expected a eight girl and hence, Joscelin remained Joscelin. It was gender neutral enough.
Nicu lost any interest in raising her son and left him in the care of her nearly grown daughters as she focused on her live stock. That might not have been a good idea. The girls decided that Joscelin made a rather cute doll. Perfect for dressing up and practicing make up on and included him in girl talk. It is a wonder that Joscelin doesn't have more issues then he does.
When his father, Rez, returned he put a stop to it. He had been gone six long turns and finding his heir dolled up in ribbons, make up, and skirts Joscelin dressed like a proper young boy until his father left and his sisters got bold enough to dress him up again.
Joscelin put up with it, his sisters were older and would gang up on him. Eventually they started getting married off and he really wasn't sorry to see them go. He was actually rather relieved to have less sisters. They were making his life miserable.
At thirteen someone took an notice of Joscelin's penmanship and offered him an apprenticeship. Eagar to leave, he talked his father into it. He was going to be away from his sisters, his family, the goats! Finally. Freedom! Except freedom was rather degrading. He had to follow orders and do all sorts of tedious things like chores. He didn't know how to converse with people and felt horribly awkward and uneasy.
After a while he was just glad to get out of training and away from his fellow apprentices and just feeling like a failure. Transferring to Wardens was rather split second decision. The guards don't have much to do with him, beside give him papers to file and fill out. It works well enough.
