Mercy nodded, watching her friend as she explained the dream. Hafwen had been right, that was a very odd dream. She couldn't for the life of her figure out what it could at all possibly mean. Sipping her tea for a moment to gather her thoughts, she touched a finger to her lips as she thought.

"Is it possible that your dream has something to do with what you're going through in school or soccer? You're trying to wade through life and just not getting anywhere?"

It was her best guess really.

The thing about Mercy was that she could be absolutely adorable even when she wasn't trying hard to be and Hafwen was instantaneously reminded of that fact with the little girl's proposition as to the meaning behind the strange dreams she was having. It was a pretty good guess given the thought process that Mercy had gone through to try to make some sense out of what could have brought about it, but unfortunately she didn't think that that was quite it and would have to regrettably refute it.

"Hmm... what you said makes sense but I don't think so. I mean..." Pausing in between her sentence, she sipped another time from her cup then continued her sentence. "I pretty much know what I want and how to go about realizing them. Both in school and soccer so it doesn't seem to be much of an issue or concern in my opinion really."

Mercy huffed, puffing her cheeks up a little in consternation. It would figure - her conclusion that Hafwen being overwhelmed was way off the mark. She should have known better than to doubt for a second that her friend was able to handle anything that was thrown at her. Allowing herself to calm, she took another sip of her tea before she spoke again.

"Hmmmm... I am not sure what else the dream could mean then, I mean, usually when you're floundering in a dream it's related to something in your life."

She shrugged a little and smiled at her friend. "But knowing you, I doubt you flounder at all."

Figuring that she had probably troubled Mercy enough with something as inane as her desert dream, Hafwen set her cup down on the saucer with a light clink, tucking her curls behind an ear as she reached for her cake next. "It's alright. Probably nothing that we should overly look into or concern ourselves with. If it is indeed something significant, it will likely reveal itself with time."

She reassured the redhead, smiling to let her know that she indeed meant what she had said about her dream and that there probably wasn't any point in them pursuing the matter further, picking up her fork to cut up the cake before pausing to make a small comment. "I do. Especially when I'm doing important things like trying to figure out what exactly I should get for my bestie on her coming birthday." A wink and then a delightful expression on her face as she savoured the taste and texture of the chocolate lava cake that was in her mouth. "How's the cake..?"

Mercy grinned and not so subtly raised a hand in the direction of her ever growing unicorn collection at Hafwen's mention of a birthday gift. "Oh Hafwen, you know what I like..." she took a minute to sip her tea and take a bite of cake, licking her lips a little when it was all said and done.

"The cake is wonderful Hafwen - I do hope you bring more with you next time we meet - I think it might just become a staple of the table."

Once again folding her hands in her lap, she huffs a bit and looks away from her friend. "Though - I hope next time I might be able to visit your home... Just... to get away from mine for awhile."

It was hard, being the only girl. Her father and mother treated her different. Which was good and bad. Her father was overprotective, sure, but he gave her more hugs and kisses than either of her brothers ever got. She knew she was loved - but at the same time - he was never around enough in her mind. He was always busy with some case or another or some issue with a client... He never spent enough time at home.

Her mother was a different story - she would make sure things were taken care of for her - then she would leave everything in her hands to deal with while she went off to write. There was a distance between them, an emotional gulf that she wasn't sure she could explain. Not even to Hafwen - which was mind boggling to her. She just - didn't feel like her mother loved her very much.

Turning to Hafwen, she tried to slyly wipe the tear that was slowly forming in the corner of her right eye. "But I guess that would be up to your father, huh?" She tried to keep her voice chipper and light - but it was hard.

A slight tilt of her head followed by the lifting of her gaze to what Mercy was gesturing to caused a smile to blossom almost immediately on Hafwen's face. "I know. But surely there's something else I can get you? Short of a strapping young lad whom you'll fall head over heels for..." She teased lightly, knowing that it wouldn't be long before the pre-pubescent female eventually joined the ranks of dreamy eyed hopefuls who were always on the lookout for their Prince Charming.

Ah well. That was a conversation that she was going to have to take Mercy through some day should, heaven forbid, that she started crushing on a boy. Preferably before rather than when it happened in fact. She reminded herself promptly before smiling and passing another comment in jest at Mercy's obvious approval of the chocolate lava cake she had brought with her this time.

"I will m'lady though not too often lest you start to find yourself bursting through the seams of all your pretty dresses." She couldn't resist really. Not when being around Mercy, short of being left to her own devices, allowed her to act and speak freely, hence why she was indulging herself like this. "Hywel? Nah, he's hardly home plus you're always welcomed at our humble abode. I could bring you to my dorm at Crystal Academy too if you wish." Waving her hand dismissively in the air at her friend's concern, she smiled and helped herself to another piece of cake.

"Would they let me sleep over at your dorm?" She perked up at that, leaning a little forward in her chair in obvious interest. "I mean - if I was going to go to a school once I get out of Knightside, I'd want it to be Crystal Academy, it's not like daddy can't afford it..."

Not to mention Hafwen was going there, even though it was some years off yet - Mercy wanted to go where her friend had gone, if only because she loved how the school uniform looked on her friend when she saw her in it.

Leaning back a little in her chair she smiled. "But, I'd love to set up a time for me to come over - just let me know when it best for you and I'll get my parents to say yes."

They always said yes...

How could anyone ever say no to Mercy when she had that expectant look on her face? Hafwen found herself musing as she pondered over the idea of a sleep over. Well, it wasn't as if that kind of thing didn't happen often over the weekend when some of the other girls had a habit of sneaking their beaus in. So long as everyone kept the volume down and within the walls of their respective rooms, it was all good really.

"I don't foresee a problem since you're a lady first and foremost plus a potential student in the future." Of course Mercy would want to be a Crystal Academy girl the moment she hit her age - it was written all over her face the day she saw her in her school uniform for the very first time. It was probably for the best too given her family background. The fewer differences there were between her and her peers, the easier it would be for her to identify with them and thus fit in. "Lemme see. How about Friday or Saturday a fortnight from now? I can swing by to pick you up and you can pick a place for dinner before we head on over for the rest of the evening." She eventually proposed with a smile on her face.

"Friday will totally work!" Mercy said, clapping her hands together before placing them in her lap. "That way I can stay the whole weekend if you are willing to put up with me for that long." She smiled sheepishly at her friend, her hands moving up to start playing with her pony tail nervously. She was afraid of pushing her luck with Hafwen. She knew the girl was older than her, and it had dawned her her awhile ago that it was possible that she was only putting up with her for pity's sake.

In her heart-of-hearts she knew it wasn't true, but that small niggling doubt remained. There was only so many tea parties and talks of romance and knights and castles someone could take before the overly childish notions would begin to grate and push them away.

Her own mother was so lost in her own little magical world she didn't even know that her daughter felt neglected - not that Mercy would say anything about that to anybody. At least not intentionally.

She actually wondered for a moment if maybe it was time for her to start growing up...

"Of course I am, silly. I'll be more than happy to host you so long as you wish me to." Hafwen reassured, still smiling the entire time as she dismissed Mercy's unfounded concern that she might grow tired of her presence with the greater amount of time that they would be spending together because of the sleepover. Never had it ever crossed her mind that she was patronizing her bestie with her actions really. Perhaps it was because she saw a bit of herself in the younger redhead and hoped to do what little she could so that she wouldn't have to go through what she did in the past.

Finishing up what was left of her cake and tea, she leaned back in her seat and nodded to herself a few times. "Looks like we're set then. After you've run this through with your parents, just let me know what time I should come over to pick you up on Friday evening?"

Torvil

The younger girl smiled and nodded her head. "I will talk to my mom tonight, thank you again for wanting me to stay over." She said with a giggle. She meant it too.

She had a lot of respect for Hafwen, so it really meant a lot to her that her older friend was willing to have her over.

"I wish you didn't have to go today, I'd love to have the company at dinner."

"You know that I would stay for dinner if I could. One day, perhaps during the coming summer vacation provided that your parents are willing to tolerate my imposing on them." Hafwen offered, a kindly smile on her face as she stood up and reached across the table to gently ruffle Mercy's hair. Time always seems to fly whenever they were enjoying themselves like this. If only there was a way to make the tea parties they had last forever, alas her chores and assignments weren't going to do themselves in her absence so something had to give unfortunately.

"Permission to take care of the washing up m'lady?" She asked, already in the midst of collecting all the dishes and cups so that she could bring them to the sink in the kitchen.

Mercy nodded, not getting in the way of her friend as she gathered up the dishes and things. "You know you don't have to ask my permission if you wanted to clean up - even though I really should since I'm the hostess." Truth was, Mercy was not a fan of doing dishes - ever. She tended to foist the chore off onto poor little Nathaniel when she could get away with it. But most of the time her Mom made sure she did her fair share.

It was really quite vexing.

"You know you're always welcome here," Mercy grinned back at he friend. "It's hardly imposing, Mom tends to make enough to feed an Army and it's always takeout when Dad 'cooks', so there is always extra."

She was fairly convinced her father was allergic to the stove or something - the man never made any actual food. It was always some sort of take out when dinner was his responsibility. Not that Mercy minded much.

"But it's always fun when you're here Hafwen," She took her friend's hand in hers and gave it a squeeze. "You're the sister I never had."

"It's precisely because you are the hostess hence why I should seek your permission to use your premises for anything. It is basic courtesy after all." Hafwen pointed out politely, waiting for Mercy to be done with her cake and tea before adding the dishes on her end of the table to the little pile she had already gathered. Cleaning up and dish washing were part and parcel of the household chores that she had been so accustomed to doing when it was just her and Hywel at home after her mother's demise and the way she saw it, the sooner she got them out of the way the better it would be since she could then make use of the remaining time to pursue some other more meaningful activities.

"I know. We'll see if we can fix a date that your family's fine with so it doesn't occur at too short a notice for them." She offered, a soft smile on her face as she gave Mercy's hand a small squeeze while she echoed the sentiments she had just shared with her. "Could say the same for you too Mercy. I really really hope that nothing will ever change between us over the many years to come." It was likely wishful thinking on her own part but she supposed that one could always cross their heart and hope for the best.
