Siata hurt. She knew a million other words existed to express the dull throb of constant bone searing pain that echoed each time she swung her leg the wrong way. Being a woman lacking in such a vocabulary, the only words she knew how to express it came in the form of a silent and singular 'ow'.

Even with her inability to spew Harper Songs dedicated to the rather brilliant cast slapped on her right leg, Siata contented herself with her ow. A kind healer took off the first cast, thick and heavy plaster that left her hip aching each night she tried to walk during the day, crutches or no. She placed it with a lighter one once the bone started to knit together again. Coworkers and family decorated it with doodles and off color comments, though she left a spot by her hip blank in order to whine Kleos into signing.

She felt the part of a canine pup, wrapped up and held in for the comfort of others. Even then, she attempted to find the good in everything, although the crutches made it difficult; they hurt her armpits, muscles taunt under her shirt in order to keep her a bit higher up from the passed top She and Siask hobbled towards the infirmary, slow as anything as, eve padded, they dug in something fierce, her palms pressed hard to the grips. Siask wore a seashell eyepatch, the inside lined with soft cloth and bound with a lather band. the dark purple looked ashing against his bronze skin. they made an odd pair with their lumbering through the weyr, a broad shouldered woman with her crutches and a huge wher with one eye covered by one half of an eye goggles an the other a dark purple seashell.

Check ups were requested, sadly. Siata wedged the door open and Siask pulled it open with his teeth so she could trundle inside. The large wher then plunked himself outside of the building with a rumbling sigh, the eye behind his goggles half closed.

Siata stood in the middle of the entry way, her lips pulled down into a slow frown because: "Shaffit. I... forget where I am supposed to turn."

Ralae's arms were wrapped around her body. Her knuckles were bright white. Normally, she had her sessions with the mind healer, just outside her weyr or inside the familiar room. But now, it was time to move past that and address one of the issues that had been bothering her.

Unfamiliar enclosed places. They had gone after the tunnel snake and Ralae had come out of that battle poorly. Her wounds on the stomach were now ugly red and itchy scabs that would soon match the ones on her chest and head. Zabreth was with her mentally, keeping a tight lease on the panic that was trying to claw its way out of her body and into a heart wrenching scream.

Finally, she stopped. She was lost and scared. And it was dark... Shuddering, she slumped against the way and tears started to form in her eyes. Not again. Not again. Looking over, she saw a glimmer of light and the outline of a person standing there. But she was too nervous to move forward.

In a perfect world she'd notice the fact a very small and sad girl slumped into herself on the wall and run over to hold and comfort her. Unfortunately this was Pern. She had a head bleeding pain and crutches digging into her armpits, a worried wher outside but, luckily, she had decent vision in the dark due to some time with the ugly one eyed beast.

She squinted around - the Healers were a bit further down, she could hobble over if she wanted, but saw a little shape there. Her half-there eyebrows arched, her thin lips parting to say something before rethinking. Her jaw snapped shut again, head tilted like a raptor before she finally spoke.

"Hey. You awake?" A pause, and then, a bit more cheerfully. "The healers are just up ahead, if you're looking for them."

Her healer was... somewhere around there. This little hall lacked healers for the most part. Still, maybe it would make the little person there move.

The person shape moved and then moved closer. Ralae moved away and but nodded her head. The words were stuck in her throat. This person, this woman wouldn't hurt her. Couldn't if the bandages and crutches were any indication. Swallowing, she took a deep breath.

And another. In and out, trying to get her voice box to work. Finally, she whispered. "Yes. Looking for the mind healer's room. But,I can't go any further."

How to explain the walls were getting closer and the darkness was closing in? That she could feel the pressure of a larger body on top of hers? Blinking quickly, sat down and stuck her head between her knees. "They can just come find me."

"Uh," said Siata. "Okay."

The effects of post traumatic anything were pretty much lost on the wherhandler. A few nightmares about the Revolution were all she got saddled with; they were trying to kill her, they blinded Siask, and she needed to defend her newfound companions. She lost no sleep over taking a life. The tunnelsnake had already become A Thing That Happened That Now Hurt. Another required act. Like hell could she sit around and watch Kleos be crushed under that thing. It had nothing to do with heroics and everything to do with a friend not dying.

All that came out of it all was an intense dislike of someone coming at her with a knife and tunnelsnakes. Those, Siask assured her, were very smart dislikes.

"So... Do you know, like, how to find the Mindhealers room?" Siata ventured. "I mean, I think most of them are up ahead here but, uh, which one is your mindhealer? I could probably find them. Or someone who knows them. I'm not overly awesome at finding people."

Sympathy would be the best response here, she was pretty sure. But having never gone through this, the wherhandler had absolutely no empathy to spare for the same reasons she couldn't understand C'tis and his acidity or Kleos and her guilt over not doing more. s**t happens, it's okay, look at the bright side and this... not the bright side. so there she stood, awkward and not all that moved by the girl she couldn't do anything for. Had she been her old strength, she'd have likely offered to carry the girl there.

Until then not so much.

If this was a test, Ralae was quickly failing. She didn't know where the room was as the healer had always come to her. But there had been directions. Zabreth was there. Maybe the dragon knew where they were supposed to go? A silent plea and there was a picture of a big room with open space. "Straight. The big room with open space."

Who had been the healer? She had done her best to only listen to his voice? Her voice? No, Wykla's voice had been the her voice. "A male. Older than me. Taller than me. He checks my bandages as well."

If she could just get moving again. Push herself up and forward. Shaking her head, she finally looked up and saw a very injured girl in front of her. One who looked very familiar. "I know you."

"Yeah well you look pretty young'n small to me so I don't know if that helps." Siata never tried to be willfully ignorant. Her talents did not lie in empathizing, politics, or catching on to subtle clues. When she tried to court someone, they were very aware of what was going on. It often involved food and talking and... the usual sorts of things friends did but Siata made it well known 'hey, I like you'.

But Ralae liked her subtle clues and her vague words. It confused the wherhandler and so she stood there like the wall she was, crutches tucked in and bewildered look on her rather smushed up face. Siata looked her up and down, a slow frown tugging at her mouth.

"Ah... probably? I'm one of those good for nothing b*****d wherhandlers that scampered off from Malvren." She wagered, blinking. "Hey... you were at the, ah. The regathering bit of nonsense, weren't you? With the speeches and snakes and all that."

"The snake!" Ralae's eyes watered but she managed to just hold herself together. A moment of clarity and she saw Siata there with crutches and looking hurt. "We were there together with the snake. And you're hurt. I can help you."

Slowly, clinging to the wall as she stood up, she tried to breathe. In. Out. In. Out. With another person, a little crack of light and the darkness backed off a little. Enough that her small frame looked malnourished and though her hair had been tended too, it was still rather messy. Even with her injuries, she was still more than likely strong enough to help the other girl. "Where are you going?"
