Hey guys! Me and Starshine again. xp
My little buddy has grown up, he's doing great. However, he's reached the age where his vet suggested he gets neutered. His appointment is Thursday and I'm a little nervous. I have a few questions and I was wondering if you guys can help me.
1. The vet said we shouldn't feed him or give him water past 10pm the night before. Will he be irritable as a result?
2. It's January in New York, how can we keep him warm in his carrier?
3. How will he act post-operation? Will it be safe to leave him alone the day after when everyone is at work?
Thanks in advance! biggrin

1. He should be fine. If he's used to having food out during that time, just cut back (obviously not much time to do so gradually now, but do your best - regular feedings are better for a cat than free-feeding/grazing anyhow.
2. It kind of depends how far you're travelling, how much you can do but just give him a snuggly blanket inside his carrier, and maybe drape a (semi)thick blanket overtop when outside/the doors are open if you're taking public transport to help barricade from chill and wind. The muffling (of both sound and visual) will also help to potentially keep him calmer.
3. He should be fine alone. Keep him restricted to a smaller space (bathroom or wherever his main box is) and just make sure he can't lick/scratch at the incision.

Thanks for your help! Here's an update.
We left Starshine at the vet this morning around 9 and are due to pick him up around 4 today. The receptionist said he'll need to wear an Elizabethan collar for ten days?! I've never known of this for a male cat. I do know that the receptionists aren't bright and keep thinking that he's a she-- will he have to wear the Cone of Shame? I'm afraid that he will be miserable.
Edit: My hunch was true-- the receptionists thought he was a she. My little one is now at home, asleep xP

The kittens recovered from their spay the day of, basically as soon as the drugs wore off they were back to normal. They were done at 6-7weeks.
