Her eyes widened further as he drew near to her. "W-well... I mean... uh..."
"You... YOU TERRIFY ME!" she shouted. "Ever since we finished those god damned wings it's like the man I love is DEAD and this... this DEVIL has replaced him! And now... and now THIS," she motioned with her shaky hand toward Finteus, "And and! You NEVER would've acted like this with me before! NEVER! No matter how badly I screwed up! And I know it's all my fault! I... I deserve this. It's my fault you turned into this..."
The realization that this was, in fact, all her fault hit her like a truck. To be reminded that her master's corruption was her doing... maybe this was okay? Her dying in a dark, stinking room like an animal... yeah. Actually, this was more than appropriate.
"...I've let you down. I... I let everybody down. G-go ahead... go ahead and kill me... I... just hope you can forgiv--" She collapsed to her knees. Tears gushed from her eyes and splattered onto the floor beneath her, deep, breathy sobs the only sounds she was able to make anymore.

He stopped walking with the first sentence that she was able to get out. With the final sentence that she completed, he spoke with such surprise that his usual facade was gone. Bald confusion was in the first few syllables of his speech.
"Eh? I was never going to kill you!" he said.
But there was no denying the validity of the rest of it. Would he have done this to Finteus, before he had the wings? He had attacked him in his own home and-no. That was beside the point and confusing the issue. Finteus didn't matter, now.
There was no question that he had changed. He had become reclusive, having his drinks brought to him. It no longer amused him to socialize without clearly defined gain being part of the deal, and when he thought of how his community had dwindled, he just didn't care. Nor did he care nearly as much about those that comprised it, that stood by him still. The idea of comforting Shanderaa in any way hadn't occurred to him, and when it had it felt like it would be play-acting, a facade too false even for him. He felt that his callousness was increasing, that he was getting worse.
One thing that he could be made to care about, even under the heavy influence of these wings of infernal flesh was himself and that, if nothing else, stirred him to action. He was losing himself, who he had been, and that was unacceptable. He also remembered the joy that he used to take in her company, in the company of others, and how his life was bereft of it now.
His next words were telepathic, so as to not be heard by Finteus. Shanderaa felt the contact, but there was a significant pause before the words took form in her mind.
<...And what would you have me do?>
The tone was converyed telepathically and it was very... Bare. Not laden with misery the way he had been after Haruka's death, but only then had he seemed more bare and more vulnerable than he did, now.

Wait, what? He... wasn't? Hearing that the idea hadn't even occurred to him genuinely shocked her. And the inflection with which he said it... gone was the callous detachment she had grown accustomed to in recent times, as well as the icy venom of the moment. He sounded almost... confused, that she would ever think such a thing.
But it was all true, what she had said. She was afraid of Matasoga now, and that he had no intentions of killing her did nothing to put her mind at ease. Seeing that he had someone who had wronged him imprisoned and tortured for nearly half a year now... there was absolutely no doubt in her mind that she'd face the same fate, or even worse. Because that was the way he was, now. No longer her beloved master, but a devil she just happened to serve. A devil that certainly had no more love for her, or anyone else for that matter.
Her mind went to a million horrible places. How long will I be imprisoned? Will my parents and Kromli and everyone else I care about wonder what happened to me and worry? Will my rabbits be okay when I'm gone? What will he... cut off of me? It seemed almost a foregone conclusion that this was, in fact, still the end.
After a long silence that, to her, felt like hours, she heard something. A question posed to her in the depths of her mind. His tone was one she had seldom, if ever, heard before. It was as if his aloof facade was completely absent.
She attempted to answer through the still-flowing tears and sobs. "I... I don't know. I have no idea... what to do for you..."

Matasoga thought to her. His mental tone was again controlled.
He stepped outside of the door and was silent for a few moments. Soon a broom drifted down the stairs and began to sweep the broken glass into a pile just outside of the door.
he said mentally, before walking away.

"O-okay..." she squeaked. "I'll um... Snff. See you there..."
She watched him walk away, before doing the same herself, glancing over her shoulder every so often as she did. Before long, she was in her room. She threw herself onto her bed and cried out the last of the tears she had, hoping they'd all be out by the time he arrived to meet her.
