"Ah, yes, that." Bereck stepped back again, leaning on her to support himself rather than snuggling.
He shouldn't have to do this.
There was only a tiny tell of that thought, a little breath in and out with eyes closed. Tonight was good. He wasn't goring to worry about anything.
Relying on Alina to help him he made he way up to the blanket. His firelizards had set out all of the food, some of it still wrapped up in cloth or brown parchment. He looked at the blanket, and then at Alina again.
"...Help me?"

"Yes, love. That." she smiled and helped him walk towards the beach. They walked slower then before with each inch water they left behind. Her hand rubbed at his arm when they got closer, her lips curled into a faint smile.
She blinked a the spread and the smile brightened even more. "You've trained them quite well, I'm impressed." She squeezed his hand when he asked, pulling his hand up. Her lips pressed against his palm and she murmured an agreement.
Together, they settled down, Alina taking a few minutes to make sure they weren't all clustered up on the blankets. She patted his knee once they'd sat. "Everything good?"

Bereck eyes closed, his head bowed and his arm coiled around his scarred side but he smiled a little and nodded. "Yes. Just hard to get from standing to the ground with nothing in between."
No time for that.
Opening his eyes Bereck picked up the bottle of wine and waved it in the air. A cloud of firelizards descended on it, most of them steadying it while green Vena swooped for the corkscrew and twisted it in. With this done Marrow took over and flicked a lever down onto the rim of the bottle's neck. Grasping the device in his forepaws and the bottle in his hind his strained, lifted and was rewarded with a 'pop!' of the cork coming free and a tumble onto the blanket.
Bereck picked up the bottle and passed one of the tough but rather lovely goblets to Alina. "You will indulge, I assume?"

Alina stooped a bit so she could nuzzle at his neck, stroking along the curve of Bereck's back though she continued to be careful of his deep scars. She wanted nothing more then to drape over him and cling, hold, never let go. It sounded creepy as hell, and maybe it would if said outloud or to (and about) anyone else. Alina watched the firelizards, her eyebrows creeping higher and higher before it popped and she laughed.
Goblet kidnapped, she nodded, and kissed his ear again. "Yes, please. I believe it's a day for indulging, love. It smells lovely." Once there was a bit of wine in her goblet, Alina took a slow sip and hummed, her eyes sliding closed. "Oh, that is lovely. You pick nice wine. My kudos to your taste."

Bereck chuckled and poured a glass for himself before passing the bottle to the flitts and instructing Vena to oversee the digging of a little pit to rest it safely in. "Give the kudos to three of my journeymen, it was their present to me," he responded with a shrug. "In any case, cheers? Good health, long life." Bereck raise his glass to Alina, waiting for the c***k before taking a sip.
Giving a contented sigh he looked up at the stars. "Almost like Malvren's skies," he observed softly. "Warmer for a picnic though.... So what did you bring to eat?" He was hungry, and drinking on an empty stomach was never a good plan.

"I'm giving you kudos anyway. I don't care what you say," She chuckled and raised her glass. They clinked together. She kissed his cheek with wine scented lips and hummed quietly. "Cheers. Good health, long life, preferably together."
Alina glanced up, relaxing against him for a moment. The stars twinkled down as they were wont to do, the patterns as familiar to her as a mans veins to Bereck. She knew their names, their paths in the sky (even though they did not move, she knew that). She knew this man.
And she loved him. Silly man he was. "Sandwiches. Some fruits. Nothing overly fancy. Well. Except." And she pulled out a small wooden box of strawberries with what could only be cheesecake in the hollowed out centers. "These are slightly fancy. I love you, and I want you. All of you. Everything." She leaned in and brushed her lips against a scar, eyes half closing. "Somewhat out of place in the conversation but I wanted to say it."

Strawberries filled with cheescake.
It had been turns, and turns on turns. More than twenty. He should eat the sandwiches first, but he reached for a strawberry and brought it to his lips. Juicy fruit sweet with a hint of tartness, and the cheesecake in the middle with its richness. He chewed, swallowed, and smiled.
"You know me."

She smiled back and put her nose against his cheek. Alina picked up another strawberry and cheesecake for him.
"I know you. They're safe, I promise. I didn't make them."
Alina took a sip of her wine as well, just smiling and content. He didn't look as if he'd be taking her words as pretty lies and that was the best of all.

He took the strawberry in his teeth, lips just grazing Alina's fingers. He maintained eye contact, and thought a lot of suitably awful things in her general direction.
"I never suspected you of making them," he said with a smile once he swallowed. "Suppose I should have something savoury," he added after a moment. "What kind of sandwiches do we have?"

Her breath caught for a moment there, eyes locked onto his. They were never good at pretending there were no awful thoughts during that eye contact, not even when young. Especially when young.
"Herdbeast with vegetables," she said after a few heartbeats, her hand moving to cup his cheek. Alina hesitated for another second and glanced around to the blanket, the spread of food and wine. "...you know, there's no sand on the blanket. No one around."

...She made excellent points.
Bereck lent up to kiss the slender blonde again. "True," he murmured into her ear, voice dipping low and fingers reaching up to brush a lock of hair back from her face, "but there is food all over the blanket. I recommend we either eat it, or move it." Leaning back just enough to take another sip of his wine the red-haired healer smiled another small smile, his bright gaze locking with Alina's once more. "Eating after exercise is much healthier than eating before, you know."

Alina shivered. That voice. She leaned back from him and began to put the food items back in the basket without another word. It only took a moment and a push of her foot to get the basket off the blanket.
A blonde eyebrow rose. The Starcrafter swung a leg over Bereck's lap, hovering over the wounded man with a smug cats smile.
"Mission successful. Anything else, healer?"

"Still very efficient I see; I always did like that about you," Bereck murmured, sliding his arms around her waist and tilting his head back to maintain eye contact. "Just one more thing Alina. Kiss me."
It really had been a perfect day.
