Appearance: Standing at 5’ 11.5” and wearing an almost perpetually Unimpressed and Unamused expression, Grace isn’t the most welcoming person you’ve ever seen. Her hair is shoulder length, wavy, red and streaked lightly with gray. Her face is oval in shape and shows her age, freckled, but there is a small smattering of make up above her brown eyes. Her dress consists of earthy tones, a lot of greens. She does wear a simple green jewel necklace, but that's about all there is in terms of decoration. Oh, she's also commonly smoking a tobacco pipe, and if it isn't, she's bitching about why isn't there one in her hand.
Personality: It is a very true statement that Grace cares more about her scientific work than she does about people. Obsessed and enthralled with science, especially plants, the only time one will probably ever see her really, really excited is if she’s just discovered something scientifically grand, or if someone has told her something that she thinks is scientifically grand. Otherwise, she’s basically in a serious or critical mood, or bitching to anyone else. She’s extremely sarcastic in her words, but blunt in arguments, and also prone to creating some colorful and creative sayings when insulting people or commenting on a situation. In short, she's Usanican, and even now those from the New World clearly don't give a s**t.
The level of interaction, along with how forgiving of stupidity and ignorance she is, and how harsh her criticisms are, depends on how much she likes the person she’s with. If she hates you: prepare to be scathed or ignored; if she likes you: she’ll still be sarcastic in tone and she’ll still correct you, but she will, admittingly, be softer and more patient overall. Grace is more naturally soft with people who are as thrilled about the world as she is, and those who share her interests. But people who show intelligence and have a humble attitude and a willingness to take criticism and to learn are often granted leeway as well from her usual Bitchiness. Cheek and a healthy attitude can also, at times, make her fond of someone, but that’s a delicate line, and egotistical, pretentious jerks are often insulted. A big surprise, however, is that Grace actually has a very large soft spot for young children, and she’ll interact with them on a level reserved only FOR them and such kindness is often never extended to adults . The one thing Grace will never tolerate, however, with anyone, is outright stupidity. She will call it out and tell you to gtfo.
History:
-Born in Usana, around the equivalent of West Virginia.
-Her father is a mayor of a small town, mother is a home maker.
-Lives a rather privileged life to be honest, taught to read and write, learned enough about law and politics from listening to her father. She always had an interest in the natural world though.
-Does many illustrations of plants and insects, but mainly plants. Her father disapproves to a degree of this science learning, her mother encourages it.
-Years pass, blah blah, she's learned more and more about botany etc. from books, observations, experiments, and writing anonymously to other scientists.
-Kept herself anonymous for some time before publishing her first papers on root systems, and the relationships between insects and pollination.
-- She's chastised, but is a stubborn b***h. Keeps on trucking. Begins work on inherited traits and genetics.
--This.... kind of causes a wildfire in the scientific world. She actually gets a lot of flack for it, and it's one of the reasons she leaves Usana for Sunderland, even though she won't say so.
--Leaves Usana.
-- Travels a lot of the world, actually. South America, Africa, etc. Never makes it to Asia though.
