Holy Magic is Heaven's officially endorsed network of magic. It's divided several schools of magic that draw on divine power. Practicing and using Holy Magic is drawing on power of the Seraphim, also known as the Saints. This system of magic was formed after the mortals developed magic for themselves. In order to keep their servants and believers in line, they allowed a controlled method of "borrowing" their powers in exchange for faith and loyalty.

Five of the seven schools of Holy Magic are taught and practiced:Curatio Vallo, Novo, Tractus, and Ruina. One is exclusive to the Seraphim, the other is forbidden.

Each school has 99 spells, 1 being the weakest and easiest to use, 99 being the strongest and most difficult to control. A powerful individual can utilize lower level spells with greater effect, and conversely use higher level spells with greater chance of success.

Spell Casting Process

The abridged method, which is quicker but has a lesser effect is simply to say "(Holy Magic school)+ (the word "number) + (spell number) + (brief pause) + (spell name)". For example: "Novo #12: Holy Orders"

Power and accuracy can also be strengthened through a holy incantation, called a Prayer Chant, where the caster directly "prays" to the patron Saint, followed by the process mentioned earlier, followed by the caster saying the word "Amen".

The magic is listed from 1-12, then 14-99. There is no number 13 spell for any of the Holy Magics.

Holy Magic descriptions and lists

Curatio (healing magic) draws on Saint Israfil: the patron of prayers for healing.

Curatio is akin to White Magic, and that it's used for tending to battle injuries, but also to help with medicinal effects. There are various other uses as well.

Vallo (defensive magic) draws on Saint Barachiel: the patron of guardian angels, divine protection, and prayers for safety.

Examples of Vallo include barriers, magic armor, etc. Like all other Holy Magic, it applies to more than just battle...and can be used in a variety of situations.

Novo (alteration magic) draws on Saint Sothis: the patron of law in the natural world, as well as prayers for change. Using Novo magic is essentially asking permission to temporarily alter the natural laws for a desired effect.

Novo is often considered the most diverse and difficult to master. Unlike Illusio, Novo bends reality of what's real. Whether that's the environment, a person's phyiscal being, or distortion of phenomena.

- #6: Vow of Silence – prevents target from speaking, and blocks telepathy for a short time (dependent on user / incantation)

- #12: Holy Orders – increases the gravitational pressure in a specific area.

- prayer chant: "Oh lord of the six wings, let the putrid vanity behold thine divine grace. Suppress! Humiliate! The weight of thine will shall be felt. Novo #12: Holy Orders. Amen!"

Tractus (movement magic) draws on Saint Uriel: the patron of kinesis and travel.

Examples of Tractus include high speed movement, teleportation, and banishment. Death Angels are taught how to travel between dimensions, under strict orders and supervision of course.

Ruina (destruction magic) draws on Saint Michael: the patron of Death Angels, Shinigami, divine wrath, and prayers for justice.

Ruina differs from Black Magic. Ruina's effects themselves are weak unless the user is strong, and thus the spell is never beyond the caster's control. Black Magic are spells that the user must master, and risk losing control. This is a fail-safe to ensure that Ruina casters do not harm anyone accidentally.

- #32: Judgement Bolt - a powerful electric bolt that comes down from the sky (can be used indoors, but not recommended)

In addition, there is a type of holy magic only possible to the Seraphim themselves.

Partum (creation magic) draws on the power of Saint Seraphiel, as she was given the title "Herald", making her essentially the 2nd in command in Heaven, and leader of the Seraphim. Any creation must be approved by her first.

- # ??: Exalt - the destruction and recreation of a lower being into a higher life form. This is done to transform mortals into deities.

There is one school of Holy Magic that is forbidden: Illusio.

Illusio (illusion magic) drew on Saint Lucifer, who is better known as the ruler of Hell: Pandemonium. Using it is considered worshiping the Devil. Some argue that illusion Holy Magic isn't evil in itself, but others argue that it's used to manipulate and lie and is thus sinful...especially considering that unlike Novo, which manipulates reality....Illusio manipulates people's mind and perception of reality. Either way, it's not officially recognized as "Holy" magic anymore. Those caught using it are punished severely.
