One Saturday, Evie was enjoying the sunshine out by the maze, sitting on a random bench listening to classical music on her ipod and knitting a hat. She'd brought her lunch out as well as a snack for later. The sky was blue, the sun was bright, but not horribly obnoxious, and she was knitting for the sheer pleasure of keeping her hands busy while enjoying music.
Nothing could ruin her day.

Coatl was wandering around on the grounds of the academy. He spend alternate weekends there; through the week, he stayed at the dorms, going home once a week for worship. Some weekends he went home for more training and worship, and some weekends he stayed at the academy. Most often he kept to himself, practicing forms and worshipping at his own shrine. However, Achcauhtli had given him suggestions, and Coatl had thought and decided that they made sense. Just because he had been selected to be the first godhead restored didn't mean that some of his fellows didn't have the potential. They just needed to be . . . felt out.
Precocious as he was, and viewing the more masculine metas as opponents or rivals, Coatl decided that this weekend would be best put to use talking to the prettier ones around the campus. Happily, the first one he came across in wandering the grounds was very pretty indeed - and her hair was an enchanting color.
Coatl walked up to the girl and stood near her. She had her hands busy - industriousness was a virtue - and was that food? Coatl always seemed to be hungry. She had those blasted noise makers in her ear, though, he hated those things. He waved to try and get her attention.
"Hey, Chipahuac. What are you doing out here?"

Evie saw a red skinned boy walking, and when he waved she removed her earbuds. "Hello, did you need something?" He was very interesting looking. She really liked his hair like that. And what did he call her? She wouldn't know unless she asked. "And um, what did you just call me? I don't think it's in english?"

Okay, technically the word had a lot of nuance to it, and could mean anything from clean to pure to fresh water to light, but he was using it to mean beautiful. Not that she would know he also technically called her fresh water, but how many people (ok, aside from him and his family and their followers) spoke Nahuatl these days?
"I called you chipahuac, because it's true. It means beautiful. And I've been taught that you should always be honest when speaking to a lady."
Now that she was looking up, he could look at her a bit better. Large eyes, clear complexion, probably a bit older than him. He was obnoxiously aware that he wasn't really a man yet, but she definitely looked well on her way to womanhood, even if not there yet. But worship wasn't about looks. Looks were just nice.
He waved a bandaged hand around. "I just came out to stretch a bit, talk to people, that sort of thing. I'm not at the academy every weekend, but I think when I don't go home for worship I should spend time around other people like me."
Of course, "like him" could be very broad - other metas, whether equals, rivals, mates, underlings, or wastes of space were technically "like" him - but some of those deserved more time than others.
"What brings you out here? Just enjoying the day, or are you working on something?"

Evie knew she was pretty, but she'd never been told so by anyone other then family members. And frankly, they were biased. So she never really thought much about it, except that she adored dressing in pretty things. So to hear it from a boy, even if he was younger then she was. Well, she did the obvious thing. She blushed.
"O-oh!" She said, surprised and pleased. Her voice was soft and feminine without being high pitched or lost in the background noise. "Well, thank you. And it's nice you get to go home often. I do too, and I usually really enjoy my time. Um, I am working on something and enjoying the day. I'm making a hat for my little sister. She's going to go with a friend of hers skiing this winter and I think she'd look good in this color. But it's a pretty easy thing to do so it's nice when I want to enjoy the outdoors or do more then one thing at a time."

Pretty and industrious; a good combination for a girl. Coatl approved. "You like to keep busy, I guess? I don't know how to do anything like that. I don't really have hobbies like that. But making a hat for your sister, that's very nice of you. Is your sister here at the academy as well?"
Cause if there was any family resemblance than hot dang.

"No, Joan lives with our parents. She goes to a human school. But yes, I do like to keep busy, and at least with knitting you can get a lot done even if you're concentrating on something else." Evie said with a little shrug, it was kind of nice not having her little sister hanging around all the time. But at the same time it was kind of a shame, she missed having a living doll to dress up whenever she wanted.
"Well I think sewing and knitting is kind of a rare thing to see boys interested in. But I'm sure you have other hobbies. Do you play sports?" She wouldn't be surprised, he had a certain air around him, like he was very active. "Oh, would you like some pretzels or something? I brought my lunch out since it's such a pretty day."

"Pretzels sound delicious." Coatl was pleased, yes, girls should provide food for others. Delicious food, he was sure. "I don't really play sports; not team ones, anyway. I spar a lot though, and I think I might want to try out boxing. My dad says I'm not really enough of a team player to do most sports."
Coatl didn't look happy about that. He was sure he would be a great asset to any team, but his dad was firm on that: no team sports. But it would be nice if he could start training to box or maybe some martial art styles; he liked that idea a lot.
"What do you do aside from knit and sew and feed boys pretzels when they are hungry?"

Evie patted the bench beside her. "Come sit here and I'll share. Um, let's see, I like sewing a lot. I design clothes, and play music. My family's big into music. My mom sings and so does my sister. I play harp and piano. Of course school work is important, I spend a lot of time on homework." She opened the bag of pretzels and pointed its mouth towards him.
"I'm sure if you wanted to play team sports you could work at being a team player. Isn't stretching ourselves by practicing things we're not good at a good way of learning new things? But sparring and martial arts sounds interesting. Do you enjoy them?"
