.hack Infection (Part 1)

I've gotten really far through the game (only a lvl 19 so you know I'm telling a lie xd ) without changing my party members equipment. The only two I mainly use are Gardenia and/or Sanjuro or Natsume. How do I change their equipment? Am I supposed to gift it to them or trade? I mean I'm fine for now since I found "Spiral Edge" for Natsume and "Kotetsu Blade" for Sanjuro, but for the monsters I'm facing now, like the Shining eyes and the Scilla Demons, I need to give them higher defense sooner or later. sweatdrop
