He wasn't quite certain how he was going to explain to Yue Lao that he'd lost a bit more of his money than he had first intended.
It wasn't as though his wife was unaware that Jianyu enjoyed a bit of friendly card playing every now and then; not that they had much time to spend on frivolous activities, what with everything going on lately. But this particular afternoon, Jianyu had stopped by the bar in the hopes of seeing Yue there. She had not been there - most likely she was either at home or still training, but Jianyu had thought that he'd have a casual drink and a game before returning home.
Needless to say it had not entirely worked out that way. Cards were a great deal harder than they were supposed to be.
He stood outside the bar with a musing expression on his face, his tail absently curled around one of his ankles. It wasn't quite evening yet; it was late afternoon turning to dusk, and the sky was still light, with a nice breeze that fluttered through. While money wasn't completely tight, really, the money Jianyu had just lost was supposed to have been used for a gift for Yue's mothers.
Now how was he going to get that back.

As much as Sanoh hated it, being out in the cold, he found himself with little choice. After all, the situation he had caused at home was, well, undeniably his very own fault. All of his tinkering with new ideas really ate into his family's wood supply, which wouldn't have been much of a problem, if it were just fire wood. No, his new obsession with miniature instruments, for children's dolls and other toys, seemed to deplete the supply of the high quality heavy hard wood. He had thought that children would appreciate how nice the toys were, and how each one was actually playable. That was not the result at all.
Either way, he was in the cold, bundled up tight, pulling along a cart and a wood ax and looking for someone to guide him to the forests. He was certainly capable of chopping down the wood himself, but with the times, his parents felt it was dangerous for him to even consider going out alone. He questioned how hiring a stranger to take him along was a better idea, but he digressed, just knowing that he had a limited time to acquire enough wood to fill their next order.
Sanoh searched around for quite some time, asking strong looking men for protection, though the way he asked may have seem a little suspicious. He never thought of himself as someone who seemed intimidating, or sketchy, just a nerdy looking kid with glasses and a complexion that was just a bit too pale. Yet no one seemed to want to take up his offer. Maybe it really was that dangerous.
Any hope that he had of possibly finding someone was quickly depleting, as he reached the edge of the city, where the bars were. He gazed around, and made a little bit of a face. It wasn't often that he found his way on this side of town. In his mind, it was full of rakes and roustabouts, and no one was safe! Granted, it was entirely possible that his mind was overreacting. He was on a mission, and needed to focus on it, before it got too dark., lest he have to go on and try again tomorrow.
Soon enough he happened upon a man, a very peculiar man. He had a tail. A TAIL of all things! He must be extraordinarily powerful.. It was worth a shot to go ask him about his situation.
"Excuse me.. Excuse me sir, can I make a request of you? I require a body guard as I venture out to chop some wood, and you seem so very powerful and reliable. Perhaps you can guide me on my way. And I am willing to pay! Upon my safe return to the city, I can pay you well." Even to his own ears, he seemed suspicious.. He really hoped he did not look the part.
