The day seemed to drag on... for what reason, Eluf couldn't really put a finger on. He had a busy, full day, of many duties to attend to and plenty of work to get done, but... even so, the hours passed by slowly, almost painfully so. The horses had been moved into the huge stables, fed, watered, and given their usual daily check ups to ensure all were in good health. Having prized horses meant making sure the lovely creatures were always in tip top condition. Afterwards he had two meetings to attend to with his father. He was used to these, and they were very informative on how to deal with customers, and how to be a proper businessman. After all, his father had hoped to pass on the family tradition to little Eluf someday. He did love the business, but.. he wasn't sure if he was cut out for it. This had been something that he'd been toiling over for some time now, especially with talk of him gaining a place of his own to live, and perhaps create a business of his own. But he simply ensured himself that he had the time to figure such things out. There was no rush... surely...
Alas, he was finally complete with his daily work! and... somehow with time to spare? After cleaning up, and dressing into his usual high-class attire, Eluf gave a farewell pet to Orali and Lyra before heading out to join his guardian Axe. With a few affectionate words, and strokes to the strong buck, he hoisted himself onto the creatures back, and the two were off to town! Usually quite patient, Eluf found himself eager to get there, and to see who he met on a usually daily basis. Lovely auburn curls fluttered behind him in their loose ribbon tie, his honey green eyes glistening brilliantly with glee. He was going to be early, so he wouldn't see the soldier straight away, but.. at least he'd be close by.
Soon enough he was into town, Axe easing to a leisurely trot, golden eyes scanning everyone that he could, giving plenty of fierce glares and unwelcomed stares. Coming to a halt, Eluf dismounted and gave the large stag a few affectionate strokes along his shoulder and neck, while he looked around at the hustle and bustle of town. It was the coming of evening, and the transition from day activities to night was starting to occur. Most markets were closing up shop, and many vendor's were heading home. Walking along the sidewalk, the pretty Eluf looked about to see what was open, that he might be able to pop in and take a look around at. Perhaps the book store.. but he'd just went there the other day, and new stock didn't come in until the next week. It was then that his head turned to look at the bakery right beside him... Blinking into the window that held some goodies on display, he smiled softly. Perhaps... Macaire would like something nice to eat after he was off of work.. a soft blush tickled his lovely little face, faint freckles bunching slightly as he smiled just a little more. And so he stepped inside, Axe remaining outside to keep guard, and... because well it wasn't entirely proper to bring a creature indoors. It was one thing the buck hated... the one place he couldn't be at Eluf's side. Oh but stepping into the bakery smelled heavenly~ The lithe man gracefully took his time to walk in, admiring the atmosphere, and the delicious aroma's wafting through the air.

It had been an extremely long day at work for Connor. Many customers had come in and out, buying many baked goods so he had to keep baking more and more. He hadn't slept much the night before due to it being too cold even bundled beneath many warm blankets. Perhaps he was getting sick? Connor wasn't too sure. He hadn't been feeling the greatest earlier on in the day but he supposed it could be possible then. Still, he wasn't able to miss work as he was the only one who worked at his bakery, except for the rare times that his father came in to help out or if he was deathly ill and absolutely couldn't make it in. He had the idea of missing one day of work was the worst thing you could ever do drilled into his head. Because if he missed a day of work, it meant that he would miss the day of potentially amazing business, and even miss some amazing people. Many times his father told him about how he had met his mother at this very same bakery and now they were married and deeply in love but that always made Connor roll his eyes. He didn't care much. He already had his eyes on someone, so . . . really, his father could just hush up about it already!
Thankfully, it seemed like the day had passed rather quickly and it was getting dark out already which meant it was time for closing. That was a huge relief to Connor as he had been looking forward to this time all day! He was already beginning to put everything away and out of sight, put things where they should be and make sure all his ingredients were put away in their proper place and also clean up any messages that were still around. Just as he was about to sweep the floor though, he heard the bell from the door ring two times like it always did when it opened and closed. Connor couldn't help but groan on the inside, suppressing a sigh as he put a smile on his face and looked up. It surprised him a little to see a rather well dressed young man, figuring that seeing how he must be high-class, he ought to be a little nicer. He gave a small bow of his head when he noticed the customer look towards him. "Hello," he greeted him as he went back behind the main counter, moving to rearrange a few of the sweets that he had been starting to put away but gotten distracted before he could do so. "Is there anything I can help you with? I apologize for there not being too big of a selection out right now . . ." There were some cakes and tortes out, as well as smaller sweets such as wafers, macaroons, muffins, scones, crumpets and some cookies as well, but otherwise he had put most others away.

Oh my, so many options... so many limitless options! Little Eluf's eyes were darting here and there, and slowly sliding along the presented goods, giving each a very crucial and hard think before moving onto the next. What would Macaire like...? Did he dislike anything in the sweets variety? He couldn't very well ask him straight out, or that would give away the surprise! A slender little finger began to tap lightly under the gentle boys bottom lip in thought, returning to a few pastries... before he was greeted.
Honey green eyes flickered up to meet the other mans gaze, offering a sweet smile of his own, and a light bow of his head in respect, "Good evening sir. I apologize for coming at such a late hour! I know you were all about to close." he offers an apologetic expression, before looking back down at the treats. He pondered a moment, before a more bashful tune took to his fair features, "Well.. I would like to buy something for a friend of mine. But I am not sure what he likes.. he's getting off of work soon, so... I wanted to surprise him." surely that was an acceptable enough response, no? looking back up to Connor, he gave a slightly distressed smile, "I'm afraid I'm perhaps not the best customer at the moment.." he chuckled lightly. He did feel bad for coming at such a later time, and when the pickings were somewhat scarce, but.. hopefully the baker wouldn't be too annoyed with him. "I was thinking perhaps... something that has fruit. Or a nice glaze." he added on, eyeing a few of the tarts, and pies.. Cake seemed like it might be too formal... and it was something he tried to be a little less of around his significant other. Though such ingrained habits did die hard.
