Features impassive, the young noble stood with hands folded beneath the cover of her sleeves. Waiting for the appearance of her first opponent, and wondering to herself how wise it had been to have entered into such a competition all things considered at current. She had not yet come to terms with her powers as a soul conduit, nor had she firmly grasped the skills the possessing presence Mi Lee had shown her, limited as they were up to this point.

At the time of her agreement to join the tournament she had figured it would provide an excellent chance to hone budding skills, but now that she thought on it more, there was every chance of her having no such luck and failing spectacularly.

With her father in the audience, along with any other of Nobles and Legions of status, the idea of failure was not a friendly one.

Snapping out of her internal musings, the young noble took not of the figure now joining her in the ring. A Fighter, by the looks of them, and certianly someone possessing much more strength then Shin had to offer. She stared at the muscle bound young man, features carefully neutral. All the while her insides squirmed uncomfortably.

Her dizi was with her, bound at the small of her back where it usually stayed, but she didn't reach for it as the referee rang the gong. Instead she dropped into a crouch and withdrew her hands from her sleeves, opening herself to not just her magic, but the spectral presence of the ghost that had taken up residence within her.

The muscular young man possessed an unfaltering sense of inner calm. Today, he did not recognize allegiances, wealth, features nor friendship: all were his opponents, all were threats, and all would be merely a passing thought which he would see and let go. And although he was wiry, muscled from endless hours of training, his weapon did not reflect that.

When he stepped towards his oponent, Rashidyan drew a handkerchief from within his dobok. It was folded very carefully. He flipped open each piece of the cloth, revealing something that shimmered in the light. He tucked the handkerchief back into his dobok after pressing his lips against it gently and raising it to his heart. The fine metal web expanded into what looked to be a fishing net. However, his gloved hands indicated it was likely something far more sinister.

And he would be happy to demonstrate. "Do you feel pain knocking at your threshold?" Rashidyan asked her, his flint eyes dull even in the light.

Lily green eyes remained glued upon the young man as he walked closer, and the noble youth couldn't shake a growing sense of unease as he withdrew a handkerchief from his pocket and began unfolding it at his leisure. Every action was calm and calculated, there was nothing rushed about the muscle bound man now facing her, and Shin wasn't entirely sure how to handle the situation.

It had been easier when tensions were high. when her opponent had been unfocused and reckless. This young man seemed just the opposite.

Pale, flaxen brows dipped as he uncover something shimmering from the center of the handkerchief. It looked a little like a fishing net, but she somehow got the impression it was much, much more then that.

Finally he spoke, and the fine features of the noble lady tightened as she glowered at the lunarian facing her. "I am certain there is pain in my future, but this far you have severed only to bore me." Her tone was casual, and there was the smallest of bites. Baiting him probably wasn't the best option, but she didn't care for her chances of she were to attempt to charge him. besides, Mi Lee was growing impatient, and the first was far less polite then the young lady she was possessing.

There was a reason Rashidyan seemed so calm: emotional response of any kind had been discouraged amongst his kin, including that of typical family bonds. They were raised as a clan, not a family, and they were raised not to seize upon a thought or feeling, but rather experience it briefly without pausing and let it carry on its way.

Rashidyan was not capable of anything resembling passion; anger was unfamiliar to him, as was love, grief and relief. He was merely a reflection of his kin's fighting style, a secret passed down. "To be bored is to fall prey to sentiment; to fall prey is to reveal weakness," Rashidyan replied, slowly and casually. Bait did not tempt Rashidyan.

His muscles flexed as he gathered two corners of the net in his hands, brought them together, and approached his opponent.

As a precursory move, as if to test her reaction or perhaps his net's range in these conditions, Rashidyan cast the gleaming net out towards her. It was almost beautiful, glinting over the battlefield.

A scoff followed the young man's words, painted lips pursing in annoyance. It wasn't as though he was wrong, not really. Shin had lived her life very near to that standard for the majority of her youth. It was only recently she had opened herself up to the wealth of emotional range that most lunarian's experienced. Yes, it did make a person weak, but she had found the strengths that came along with it far out balanced the negetives.

Besides, who wanted to be an emotionless vessel? Certainly not Shin.

As he cast forth his shimmering net the young lady danced back and out of reach, careful to keep the beautiful lines from touching her as they fell. There was no safe way to learn what the net did, so she would try to avoid it if she could.

Instead she used the motion as an opening and darted to the side before making her way towards him. Thrusting for his arm with the tips of her fingers as she drew near him. If she could touch him, send her magic through his body like a knife, then she could slow him down. In this case she hoped to numb his arm to keep him from effectively using that net of his.

Rashidyan was long past simply knowing that being a vessel without emotions was a burden, to many, and not a gift in any sense. Even if he was capable of understanding that there was a lot more to life than merely performing one's duty, learning how to be an efficient combattant, following the clan's wishes, it would never happen: no one in his life would tell him these things.

And he might have killed them for it, anyway.

At the moment, none of that mattered: his slate-grey eyes watched the elaborately-dressed Lunarian, scanning her muscles for movement, watching her feet for any shifts to betray her intended response to his net. He almost seemed to smile, though it had a cold edge to it that made it look gruesome, as his opponent darted to the side and reached for him. He had cast the net, not let it go; all he had to do was jerk the net back to him, keeping it between himself like a shimmering shield.

If she were to continue on her path, she might touch him, but she would likely snare herself as well.

Fingertips touched the smooth skin of his arm, her magic surged forward to disrupt the natural flow of the workings of his arm. She'd done it, she'd reached him, but there was no satisfactory rush of emotion, no feirce grin, nothing. She had time enough to see the net twitch back and come towards her, but no time to react.

The shimmering threads fell atop her, and she jerked back automatically, but far from freeing herself she'd merely managed to ensnare herself further. With a startled grunt the girl brought her hands, now tangled in the delicate strands of the net, up in front of her face, staring at the fine strings.

"What is this?!" As much as she'd have liked to avoid it, it was now imperative she know the function of the net that was now wrapped around her.
