Name: Hui Liu (hwee Lee you)

Nickname: “Hugh”

Age: 25

Birthday: April 8th

Sign: Aries

Gemstone:  Diamond

Blood Type: AB neg

Fav. Food: Rice

Hated Food: Meat

School:  N/A – Professional Monk

Hobbies:

Meditation – Hui is a Buddhist Monk and one of the core things a monk learns is the power and importance of meditating and communing with the energy around you. He can often be found in this pursuit anywhere quiet or natural and would love to answer questions for anyone who seeks help meditating as well.

Reading – Knowledge is power, or so it is believed. Hui likes to study any subject he comes across and will spend copious amounts of time in libraries or book stores trying to read about some new subject and strengthen is understanding of the English language. His current grasp of the language is tenuous at best. He understands more than he speaks but not very much. His younger brother is usually his translator.

Tai Chi – To keep his limbs limber he runs through his Tai Chi forms regularly. These skills have been bred into his bones and he cannot help but continue on. He will gladly help anyone asking about learning the ancient form and will often try to teach it to people that come to him asking him for help in meditating. Being at one with the body helps one become whole with the mind.

Communing with Nature – Hui often enjoys hiking or simply existing in a natural environment soaking in the serenity. He will admire people who garden and may even lend a hand for small tasks. Walking tours of the natural landscape would be something he enjoys, too. He doesn't mind hiking in groups or walking among others.

Virtues:

Calm – Hui is never known to fly off the handle or let stress get the better of him. In fact, stressful situations don't seem to phase him at all. Hui just employs his mediation techniques and believes that suffering is meant to teach him a lesson. There is no such thing as a bad lesson so long as it is learned so why resort to anger or fear? This is especially true in emergencies or in high pressure situations. He is a good guy to call to keep you calm, too.

Giving – Hui gladly gives of himself – of his time, of his knowledge, of his skills and his path. He even gives away what excess he has of the things he needs like food. It's one of the tenants of his faith. Anything he has that he does not immediately need to survive should go to someone less fortunate. While he doesn't have much to give in the way or materiel possessions she will always be happy to give him time.

Down to Earth – Living in a monastery for sixteen years taught Hui what was really important in the world and it isn't material possessions. He is very practical when it comes to his needs and interactions. He doesn't ask for much and doesn't tend to be careless with the things he does have. Above all he is very sensible in his needs and dealings with others. People can feel comfortable coming to him because he is not helping them because it benefits him in any way. He will never have an ulterior motive. He does it because he wants to.

Flaws:

Giving – Hui is very giving. Sometimes he is too giving. He will sometimes rid himself of too much in an effort to do good to his own detriment. The food Jie, his brother, cooked for dinner will be fed to a homeless man he spotted and now he will go hungry for the night, etc. Or the cake or sweet he was given will be fed to someone else. This can lead to personal detriment and sometimes to hurt feelings because he doesn't understand that giving away a gift is not polite and not everyone wants charity.

Gullible – Because of his lack of exposure to a modern world he will be unable to distinguish who has good intentions and who had bad intentions that he will often find himself the butt of many jokes or victim to many pranks or scams. You could tell him the word "muffintop" refers to a sweet disposition only to have him be slapped when he tries to compliment a woman he knows.

Self Righteous – Hui doesn't understand first world problems. If you mention that you did not get the new iphone for Christmas or that Billy Whatshisname didn't call you back he will simply look at you like you're speaking in tongues and then politely remind you that you don't need a cell phone at all because they are tools meant to distract you from inner peace and that if Billy was meant to be in your life he would be and clearly that is not the case, etc. He will often tell you what you need to hear from his point of view, not necessarily what you -wanted- to hear.

**this is not a flaw but it is worth mentioning that Hui does not speak fluent English at all. His language skills will progress in roleplay as he goes but there will definitely be a language barrier in place.

Personal History/Personality Synopsis:

Hui was born to his father in his first marriage. When his father remarried they lived as a very poor rural farming family by the Mekong River and close to the Plateau of Tibet. Things were fine until they had a second child, Hui's younger brother Jie (zhae). They tried to make things work with two children but it was to hard and it was decided that Hui would go to live in the monastery and learn their ways. So, at age nine, that is what he did.

His little brother did not forsake him and often brought food from the village to the monastery and spent time with his older brother. In this way they became close. When Jie decided that he wanted to come to America he did not want to go alone and so it was his brother he begged asked to accompany him. With some reservations, he agreed.

Jie knew what to expect having more exposure to the Western world but Hui is experiencing deep culture shock from the modest and technologically deprived world he's used to. They live in a small apartment near DCU. Jie attends, Hui makes use of the library and campus.

Hi, Parue! You have a very interesting character here and I look forward to seeing how you intend to develop him in play!

Hui’s profile reads very well and I don’t see much of anything that requires attention! His hobbies look good; virtues, too! His flaws also read very well and provide a nice contrast to his virtues! I would make a note that playing a character who does not have a firm grasp of the English language in a setting where a vast majority of the characters speak English might not always be easy, but as you’ve made a note of that I’ll assume you’ve already taken that into account!

Long story short, here is a trial stamp! XD
