The mother, Sakuya, was 9 months pregnant with the unborn Shinto as they travelled acrossed the lands.
The distraught couple eventually settled in the land of lightning, deciding to live in Kumogakure in order to be free of all the negative treatment and constant criticism. However, the Uchiha clan members there had been informed of the couple helping a group of rogues that attack Konoha. The first few years were nice for the family as they lived peacefully among most of the villagers. Neither Shinto's mother or father had any talent as shinobi and his mother had not inherited the famous sharingan ability that many Uchiha wished to be gifted with. Their son, however, at the young age of 5 years old had already shown interest in shinobi and the arts of ninjutsu as well as martial arts. They believed he had a possible chance of awakening the sharingan ability as there was a very special aura that surrounded the boy. He was extremely talented at many things even from ages as young as 7-9. At age 9, everything changed for Shinto and his family. The villagers of Kumogakure had surrounded their home one early morning as an agry mob would. At the front of the group were Uchiha clan members, all standing with activated sharingan. There had been a recent surge of crime against the villageby a group of rogue shinobi , similar to what happened to Konoha years ago when the Uchiha couple had offered them supplies. The Uchiha clan members in Kumogakure had convinced many of the villagers that it was of course the notorious couple from Konoha that had repeated their actions from years earlier. Enraged, the mob forced the small family out of their home and for the next two years the family struggled without a place to stay or stable jobs to live a comfortable life.
Shinto and his parents were reduced to homeless persons that slept in the alley ways of Kumogakure and lived a life of extreme poverty and danger. Shinto's father, Haki Uchiha, was forced into participating in dangerous street fights in order to earn enough money to feed and clothe his wife and son. Sakuya didn't have much of an option to make money at this point and so she took care of her son, physically, mentally and emotionally. He learned many things from his mother as she trained him and took care of him as best as she could. At age 11, Shinto's father died in a fixed street fight, where they had planned to gang the man and steal all of his past earnings for the week of fighting. Shinto and his mother was taken over by grief and further fell into an even more terrifying form of life on the streets of Kumogakure. Sakuya Uchiha became a prostitute, working as much as she could to get the money she could to take care of her beloved son. Shinto didn't like to see his mother in such a disgusting form of work as her body was constantly degraded and she was sometimes beaten brutally by her clients and bosses. Eventually, the depression and grief over the loss of her husband eventually consumed the Uchiha woman and she was driven insane. Watching his mother go insane, mentally scarred the young Uchiha boy and the woman comitted suicide when he was only 12 years old, further adding onto the pain of already having lost his father. Shinto loved his mother more than anything else in life. To lose her, crushed his heart into a million tiny pieces. Holding her lifeless body in his arms, Shinto was knelt down in a pool of his mother's blood. The woman's neck had been slit clean open and in her left hand was the knife that was used to committed the murder. That night, the young uchiha would break down and cry a river of tears which dripped upon the cold corpse of his beloved dead mother. Open his tear filled eyes, they flashed a red color as a surge of chakra moved through his body for a short instance. What was that about?..
It's been a year since his mother passed, and he is still very much hurt by the loss of both his parents as well as the life he once lived. After her suicide, Shinto was taken in by the Kumogakure orphanage and eventually decided to taken on the life of a shinobi for his own reasons. He has no friends of the sort and usually is alone.
