Two questions:
Do characters who have whers have to be formal wher handlers, or can they just have some basic training in wher care before buying themselves an egg, especially if they mean the wher to be a watchwher or used for odd jobs?
Can characters start as Journeyman in a craft if they have a history that supports it, or must they start as Apprentice only?

Basic training would be fine for watchwhers and so forth. C: mewrose Can characters start as Journeyman in a craft if they have a history that supports it, or must they start as Apprentice only? You mean, applying a character who is already a Journeyman or having it in their backhistory that they went straight to Journeyman and skipped Apprentice? The first situation is AOK, the second I'm not sure about (would have to wait on Fey). XD

Thanks!

Certainly they can begin play as a journeyman, although in the case of watchwher handlers it would certainly be unusual to be a journeyman without a wher. Because journeymen are generally allowed autonomy and sent out into the world to do whatever craft it is they do, it is assumed that they can do all the things expected of someone in their craft, though not at a master's level.
A wherhandler who doesn't have a wher and has never had a wher would be hard pressed to perform the duties of a wherhandler, what with not having a wher and all. That said, a wherhandler who had a wher but no longer does would not lose their status as a journeyman just because they no longer have a wher.
I don't know if that clarified anything. I'm sorry. No sleep.

Lol, that's fine. I'm actually working on a Journeyman Tannercrafter who, being competent enough to work alone, got a posting out in the wide world. She's not a wherhandler apprentice at all, just got a wher just to be a watchwher and guard from bandits and the like. Then the wher turned out to be so incredibly energetic that his owner decided to try entering him in races and see what happens.
