Aoi laughed a little as Kira confirmed the Pele she was talking about was indeed the one he knew. The world really was a small place after all. "Pele is doing well. Last I spoke with her was about five years ago at the 700th birthday celebration of my son, Lai. We held it at Pele's home." He took a sip of his soup as he remembered the party. Lai only held it in Hawaii because he couldn't turn down Pele when she asked for things. Both of them were two eccentric peas in a pod. "Anyways, she's considered the goddess of fire of those islands, so she's no longer just a fire elemental. Truth be told, I always thought she was born a goddess. You actually surprised me when you named her as your sister." Pele loved erupting volcanoes from underwater, which always caused him some discomfort when he was swimming. She just liked water way more than fire elemental should. "Once we're done shopping for clothes, I'll give her a call," he said as he finished his soup and stacked it on top of his empty salad bowl along with his silverware.

Kira's eyebrows raised at the mention of a son, but she was ecstatic at the fact that her sister was alive and well, and a friend of Zaya. I've been thrown a blessing with this man. "Yes, she always had those ideas of being much bigger than she was, but she was born like me out of a volcano, on those islands of hers. But I'm surprised she's a goddess to the people there, she always enjoyed them." Kira said chuckling at a few happy memories of her and the people of the island. Kira nodded at his suggestion of contacting her once they were done getting her some clothes, though she had no idea how they could do that from so far away.

Finally she finished off the remainder of her food, pleasantly happy with the meal and conversation. "So when do we leave? How we pay for our food?" Kira asked, curious as to how they did things now. She was simply used to handing coin over at the beginning of a meal with the order and leaving once she was done, but obviously it wasn't how it was done now.

Aoi raised an eyebrow back at Kira after he mentioned his son. He had a few children still alive in this world, but they all led their own lives as did his descendants. All in all, he was full of surprises, as was Kira. He chuckled as she mentioned Pele in the past, now not at all surprised by what he heard. "Yeah, well, lots of interesting things can happen when you're not around." He smiled with just the right mixture of mischief and playfulness. "I can't wait to surprise her. We'll definitely Skype her. She'll freak the freak out when she sees you again." Things were rather dull on the Hawai'ian islands, so of course he would give Pele a heart attack of the century.

Then, when Kira asked to leave, Aoi chuckled again.
"First, let's have dessert. It'll give me time to text Pele." As he spoke, their waiter arrived again with a tray containing two plates and a cake box. He smiled at them and made small talk as he placed the dessert on the table in exchange for the dirty dishes. "Could you bring the bill over as soon as you get the chance?" he asked the waiter, smiling as brightly as before.
The waiter blushed.
'Sure, I'll bring it right over," he said before whisking the dirty dishes away.
Clucking his tongue, Aoi glanced back at Kira.
"I hope you like the cake. Have you ever had coconut before? Pele has a ton of them on her islands. They're those brown, hairy fruits that float in water," he said as he picked up the cake fork that came with the plates. "If you do, I bought the rest of the cake to snack on later." He took a bite of the cake. The sweetness of the blueberry and coconut made him smile. It had been awhile since he ate anything remotely sweet. As he chewed, he pulled out his phone and brought up his text messages. Pele's number was near the bottom of the list with the date he last spoke to her, which was at Lai's birthday party. He quickly typed that he had urgent business with her and asked if she could Skype him sometime soon. Her response came within a minute of his going out. He smiled, they'd chat in another two hours or so.

Kira cocked her head in question once again, trying to figure out what in the world Skype and texting was, but made do with enjoying dessert. "I did enjoy coconuts, though I always thought they were so much work for so little. You had to peel off that head-sized husk around the that hairy little fruit, then you had to chop off enough to get to the drink, which was always a few mouthfuls. Half the time the drink burnt before I really tasted it, but the shaving off the inside of the fruit tasted well enough." Kira complained as she took a few bites out of the cake, smiling at the familiar taste and the new sweetness that accompanied it. "So, how is it that you will contact her?" Kira asked, trying figure yet another new thing, or assumed a new thing because it was the way to explained him being able to contact here from so far away.

Aoi listened as Kira complained about her past experiences with coconuts, not being able to relate to them. For him, he just took a blade and halved the fruit before eating out of it. Peeling off the hair and hard shell took too much effort. The only time he didn't halve a coconut was when it was unripened and he wanted to drink the water inside. "I never knew about coconuts until I reached my three hundredth year," he said to Kira as he finished up his cake, missing its sweetness already, but forcing himself from getting another slice. Too much of a good thing would make him sick, which included sweets. "Wherever I traveled before then, I was always in the mainland or too up north where the fruit's trees wouldn't grow. I actually didn't want to try it because I thought nothing from such a hard fruit could produce anything remotely tasty. Lucky for me, my friend Hathai forced me to eat it after I lost a bet." He smiled, remembering the Thai sea spirit and her insistence on him eating the hairy fruit.

As he reminisced, his phone flashed and Lai's name popped up. Frowning, Aoi read his message. Lai was in Honolulu with Pele—again, his son never told him exactly why he liked Hawai'i so much—and he was concerned over the message he sent to Pele a few minutes ago. Reassuring his son, the water elemental told him if he was so concerned, he should ask Pele if she wanted to join them Skyping. Then he sent Pele a text asking why she told Lai and why she didn't mention his son was with her.
"Now, as for contacting Pele, I already have. We'll talk to her in a couple of hours, after we finish clothes shopping," he said as he pushed his plate to the side. "We have devices—that don't use magic—that allow us to communicate with others across the globe. Take this for example," he said as he held up his smartphone. "It's called a phone and it allows me to call, text, and video-chat with people. When I call, both me and the recipient can only hear each other. Texting is sending written messages to one or more people without having to use a bird or person to deliver it. Video-chatting is what we'll do after we shop, but on a difference device called a laptop. Anyways, it's like using a crystal ball to see and hear each other, except we're not using our own energy. We're using electricity to power the device." He hoped that all made sense to her because he didn't know if she understood even a bit of it. Maybe the part about electricity since he talked about it before, but...

Just as he was musing over his next explanation, the waiter returned with the bill. Glancing at the bill, Aoi told the waiter to wait a moment as he pulled out his wallet and pulled out a fifty and a twenty. Fifty for the bill, twenty for the tip. Quickly dashing down the amount and tip, he handed the bill back to the waiter.
"You can keep the change," he said with a little more of a shy smile than before, but still just as bright. Then, glancing back at Kira, Aoi asked her, "Ready to shop?" The waiter shuffled away, face bright head again. This was bad, he was teasing the waiter too much. Now the poor kid might think he had a chance with him. Should he break it to him? No, he'll get over it as soon as he met someone cute, but he really shouldn't have teased him so much. Then again, that's what happened when he didn't have his locket. It not just translated, but suppressed his more unsightly personality traits, though he had no idea if it worked on other people.

Kira listened and tried to understand his explanation about how he was contacting Pele, though he was doing a little better explaining this then he had electricity. It really helped having him relating it to something she had already knew about. "It seems this time is all about having everything made simpler than before. Takes some of the fun out of it, but I can understand why." Kira finally responded. Then she gave a wry smile as the serving man walked away with his skin on fire more than hers. She cut her eyes at Zaya, pondering if he had an affection for men like the boy that had served them. She refused it to make her jealous of the man. "Yes, I would like to get some new clothes, maybe then I won't feel too foreign here amongst all this new." She replied, eager to get these clothes and contact Pele.

Aoi smiled, relieved Kira understood his explanation this time around. It really was simpler, but that was because when it came to communication, going into the details wasn't necessary. He could tell her all about radio waves and all the other mumbo-jumbo. Plus, communication was a simple thing everyone could understood, it wasn't a complicated thing in the first place.

Standing up, Aoi picked up the cake box and held out a hand to Kira.
"Well, anything is better than wearing that silk robe every single day." He smiled, ignoring how the fire elemental looked from the waiter to him. If he was lucky, she would misinterpret his teasing as legit affection for the same sex, but that was a big "if" for him. His luck never turned out so great. "I just hope they have fire-proof clothes," he joke, a mischievous look in his eyes. Though he was playful about it, he was serious about the fire-proofing. If the store didn't have fire-proof clothing, they'd go to the local magic shop to get some charms to protect her new clothing. It would be faster than waiting for her clothes to be fire-proofed.

Kira smiled at his comment on her robes. Though it was comfortable and smooth to the touch, it reminded her too well of the robes that the druids of the Gaelic used to wear while they chanted all their prayers. While the memory of those chants were very soothing, she doubted the druids were still around or as popular as they were in her time, given the odd looks she had been given. "I hope so as well, in my time it wasn't uncommon for people to walk in the nude amongst other people, well at least in my homeland and in the land of the Gaelic at was common. But I would be rather disappointed to burn through my newest clothes and have to walk naked back to this clothing store." She said laughing, and laughing harder when some of the people overheard her and looked at her with alarm.

{Sure thing}

Aoi was happy Kira was enjoying herself with their little banter. Shaking his head, the water elemental led her to the restaurant doors. "I'm sure we can arrange something," he said as he opened the door. "But if worse comes to worse, I have more robes for you to borrow." He preferred for her not to burn through her clothes.
