Jaggeth folded his wings back up, eyes whirling a pleased blue-green before he turned his head to bump his riders hand with his nose. 'About time you got here, tell her your welcome for me?'
R'oe scratched Jaggeths head as the brown bumped his hand. 'Well if you had told me where you were going...' he replied to the brown before turning his attention to the girl "I'm R'oe and this is Jaggeth, he says your welcome." R'oe told her, lumping in the introductions at the same time as Jag's reply to her. "A healers apprentice? That's some hard work..I don't think I could do it really...sewing people up and such, aren't you ever worried you'll catch whatever is making them sick?"
Hearing the girl was a healer Jaggeth's eyes brightened in excitement. 'Making others better is a fine way to spend ones life..tell her I said it, tell her R'oe! Tell her I'll help if any of my hatchmates are ill!'
R'oe sighed and regarded his lifemate for a few moments before giving in repeating the message. "Jag says healing is a fine way to spend you time."
'..and'
"..And he'll help if any of his hatchmates are ill." R'oe concluded with a slight shrug. How do you tell a hatchling that he couldn't really do much to help right?

"well congratulations R'oe of Brown Jaggeth, i'm sure you're going to be a fine pair indeed" she said, her smile growing as she talked without anyone being mean or malicious to her. "It is... very hard work .. i had to sew Master Bereck up at Malvren after a Wher savaged him" she said, losing her smile for a moment as she remembered the great gashes in her master. "Oh no.. i'm not afraid of catching any sickness, we're prepared for that and we try and make sure everything is as clean as possible" she added, smiling down at the brown dragon who, judging from his eyes, was excited.
"Thank you Jaggeth" she said, making a point of talking to the dragon was important to her, although the rider was there, he could hear her and it would be rude to say what she wanted to say to his rider and not him. It's be like.. asking someone to talk to a mute for you because they couldn't talk to you. It was one thing having the rider tell her what the dragon was saying but yes.. she thought it rude not to talk to the dragon.
"I'm not really qualified to heal dragons yet, i can only check you over for dry patches or tears in your skin, you'd have to go to the Weyrhealer for anything serious" she said to the brown, eyes flicking to the rider R'oe "But thank you for the consideration, i'm glad that you dragons don't really get sick like people do" she added with a small chuckle. Her mood defnitely lifting with this pair.

R'oe nodded as the girl spoke, she looked healthy enough and he'd never heard of a mass healer die off anywhere so he supposed they ought to have some way of handling that - he had always assumed they just knew how to treat things before it got as bad as most people let illness get. No one liked going to the healers after all. "Thank you Miss, we'll certainly try, for the Weyr's sake." He told her before his smile dulled a little bit.
"I was in Benden when it fell, there were a lot of people there who needed sewing up but no healers to do it, the rebels took over everything, big hulking whers and men with weapons everywhere..I barely made it out of the tunnels and into the woods surrounding the Weyr...Probably would have died if N'mol hadn't come and rescued me thanks to my flit." As it was he'd spent a good deal of time recovering. Thankfully she was distracted by speaking to Jaggeth and he didn't think she saw the haunted look in his eyes before he managed to wipe it away thanks to Jaggeth's head bump.'it is sad that people get sick...but good that there are healers to look after them. I'll take care of you if you ever get sick again mine.'
"Well if you need someone to carry supplies around for you I'm sure he'll be willing to volunteer." R'oe stated with a slight laugh in an attempt to lighten the subject and judging by Jag's decisive nod R'oe was probably right.

"Oh don't call me miss... please .. my name is Becka .. i'm certainly no miss" she smiled though, she didn't recall anyone calling her miss before.. you girl.. perhaps.. but not miss, or.. not politely anyway like R'oe.
Her eyes lowered to her feet when he began speaking of Benden, flickering up only occasionally but those glimpses of his face while he remembered echoed her own haunted-ness. She understood some of what he'd been through... she hadn't been alone though, even through her stresses of trying to save Bereck, the sight of Whers hurting.... killing people... the bodies and the blood... She'd had people around her but the nightmares never really went away ... oh sure they'd stop just long enough for you to be able to get a few good night's sleep but they'd be there, lurking... flaring up whenever something triggered the memories she'd tried to force away. Her worst one had been of Bereck and Sessie dying... then haunting her, blaming her... telling her she could have saved them if she'd only been there... had just tried harder.
One small tear formed and made it's way down her cheek, so small she didn't even notice it falling until Nightling licked her cheek, squeaking a little at her. "I'm..glad you did make it.. or your Jaggeth here wouldn't have had a partner today" she said, giving R'oe a weak smile as he tried to raise the mood "I'll be sure to have Berath call on him if i ever make it to Journeyman" she said, giving the merest of chuckles in return since she didn't think she'd ever get there.. she missed home but was glad that nothing here really reminded her of that day ... the day she had lost Sessie, someone she'd considered like a sister... and had almost lost Bereck... whom she saw almost as a father.. rather than a Master. "Berath.. is my Master's Dragon" she explained quickly though, not wanting him to ever think Berath was Hers.. she was Bereck's Dragon .. her friend only.

"Sorry, Becka..old habits die hard I guess, just used to calling everyone sir or ma'am or miss I suppose." Of course it hadn't been necessary for a candidate unless one was talking to a Goldrider or a Wingleader ..or some other form of authority at the Weyr but R'oe had always liked to leave people with a good impression. It reflected well on Benden...though he supposed that was hardly a problem anymore. Those Wherhandler's and their traitor friends had likely sullied the Weyr past redemption by now. And there he was thinking terrible thoughts again, when he was trying to have a decent time. 'Never fear mine, nothing is past redemption' Jaggeth stated and R'oe had to smile at the little brown 'Thanks Jag'
Turning his attention back to Becka and determined to have a decent time at the feast he smiled at her. "Good to have dragon friends." He told her on the topic of Berath, for surely if the dragon spoke to her then they must be friends. "Did you have more hatchlings to see too...or would you maybe like to get a bite to eat?"

Becka gave a slightly larger smile than before "Healers don't usually have the luxury of manners like that sometimes" she chuckled, respect those that outranked you sure but when you were healing someone, sometimes bluntness worked better than manners and diplomacy. She'd accepted the fact that, for now, Trine was where she called home, that and as a Healer she could never really be expected to settle anywhere, she would go wherever her duties lay.
She gave R'oe a brilliant grin when he said it was good to have dragon friends "Oh yes, Berath is lovely too, she's such a loving dragon" then she remembered that Whers had hurt her and she felt sick again, how anyone could have done to her what had been done... was beyond Becka's understanding, Berath certainly didn't deserve it. "I have my work so.. maybe i'll grab something later" she said, flattered that, even if he was just being polite, that he cared .. even just a little. As if in answer though, her stomach gave a small grumble, probably more audible to the brown than it was to his rider but Becka blushed a little until Nightling squeaked, "She's hungry too... i guess i'm outnumbered" she chuckled.

Vesaldyth preened at Phiroth’s comment, always pleased to be compliment.
< Thank you! You have a lovely hide too, like pretty ivy.>
And it was true. Vesaldyth did admire the creeping ivy she had seen, and the patterns of Phiroth’s hide reminded her of the determined plant.
“ Mm, yes. Had I known, I wouldn’t have taken Shrieker’s egg,” Shrieker looked offended, and Nyasa pat the flitt’s head absently,“ but Vesaldyth was unexpected; I wasn’t a Candidate.”
Shrieker was… well, Shrieker. Cute, sometimes sweet, often annoying, and always hungry. Vesaldyth, thankfully, wasn’t as shrieky as the flitt, but she was even more ravenous. Nyasa felt like she spent most her time these days cutting up meat. Ahmenna, she remembered, had actually been a Candidate, and wondered if that made any difference.
“ Think having been an official Candidate makes this,” Nyasa waved vaguely, trying to indicate all the Impression and Weyrling stuff, “any easier for you?”

Oh yes, Phiroth was going to make Vesaldyth the first dragon in her collection. The green scooted a little closer and stretched her neck. "Not supposed to Impress? Ah, you weren't Searched then?" Ahmenna had been Searched but had to be persuaded by the ones called Kallista and Astarteth. She wondered if she would see the duo again. Scrunching her nose a little, she thought about it. "If by being easier, you mean being worked like a drudge, then yes. It is easier. I grew up in a fishercraft hold filled with nothing but family and more family. We all worked."
Idly, she scratched Phiroth's head and wondered where her cousin was but she supposed he had been drafted to some chore or another. Shrieker seemed like a miniature dragon only, well...louder. Taking a small tidbit of roast, she offered it to the beast. "Think she will take it?" Phiroth got up on her legs, putting one claw on 'Menna's leg. Using her other hand, the girl pulled another piece off and tossed it into the green's mouth. "What do you think?"

Bedecked in his brand-new weyrling knots, Eiran looked around as they walked away from Suunath and Kindra. He had to admit, if only to himself and his dragon, that he was feeling increasingly ill at ease. He had never gotten to know any candidates, as he had never planned to leave the kitchens. He had never learned a great deal about the life of a dragon-rider and he had never been particularly eager to step out of his comfort zone. This was going to take some serious getting used to.
The dragon prodded Eiran gently in the side with his nose, huffing somewhat indignantly. There was no stopping Laeonaith as he led the way to one of the long tables, finding a spot for them without paying a great deal of attention to the fact that his wingtips were knocking things over.
"I'm coming, I'm coming!" Eiran said, hurriedly following his wayward dragon to the table. "You have got to be the clumsiest dragon I have ever seen." He added lovingly, taking a bucket of meat that had been prepared for the hatchlings. Eiran was feeling too nervous to eat, but Laeonaith always seemed to be starving.
Laeonaith responded, greedily gobbling up all that was offered him. Out of the corner of his eye the dragon noticed two of his sisters and Theirs eating and visiting. Perhaps once he had sated his hunger he would go and see them. Then his own tail flickered into his vision and Laeonaith was briefly startled by it's metallic sheen. A treasure! Ack! No, no treasure, just his tail.

Kharmeen was carrying a pot of roast wherrie soup and it's smells were starting to even make his own stomach growl. It was nice seeing all the weyrlings and new dragons though he was a little sad that he hadn't met up with Ahmenna or her green. He had been part of the Search party looking for some of the missing eggs when the hatching started. Since every dragon Impressed, it was no skin off his back that there wasn't a dragon for him.
There was always work. Something he completely understood.
Suddenly, there was a commotion as the only bronze of the clutch went rushing past him, almost toppling the soup, and then he stopped. Memorized by his own tail it seemed. Were all dragons this hyper? He could only speculate. Seeing a rather small teen heading his way, Kharmeen moved again and set the soup down before anything worse could happen to the meal he was carrying.

Eiran hadn't fully realized the carnage that his dragon was leaving behind until Laeonaith became distracted and the young rider had a chance to look up. Shards. There seemed to be a path of destruction wherever the two of them went, and Eiran could already tell that Laeonaith would probably never be a graceful dragon. As he was staring aghast at the mess, he noticed Kharmeen standing there, having set his soup pot down, and looking a little bit shellshocked. Eiran stood up and made his way over to the man.
"Hey, I'm sorry. I hope he didn't knock you over or anything." The youth said, nodding towards Laeonaith, who was trotting up to them. "He's a little..." Eiran paused, not sure exactly how to describe Laeonaith's well-meaning awkward clumsiness.
The dragon said complacently, unconcerned that everywhere he went he knocked things over.
"He's just a baby." Eiran finally said with a shrug. "Did he hurt you?"
As he was attempting to explain Laeonaith, the dragon had noticed the pot of soup sitting innocently on the table and stuck his snout in to investigate.
"...He likes your stew." Eiran added, a glimmer of hopeful mischief in his eyes.

"I remember you. We went on the hunt together. Or at least, I went and I don't remember when you showed up until you Impressed this fellow here," Kharmeen amended his statement. He looked down at the new bronze rider and shrugged. Moving the pot a little closer now that the dragon's snout was in it and making happy noises, the candidate gave a chuckle.
"I don't think anyone will object to him having his fill. Dragons first, after all. As for hurting me, I managed to dodge in time."
Oh those two should be interesting as the bronze grew. Remembering his manners, Jr. Weyrling trumped Candidate, Kharmeen gave a slight bow, hoping not to knock over the boy and introduced himself. "I am Kharmeen. Once you start lessons, my cousin Ahmenna and her green Phiroth will be in your classes. The pleasure is mine, if I may have your names?" Khar' asked politely.

Vesaldyth obligingly spread her wings as far as she could without hitting anything.
< Yes, I’m mostly the same everywhere, just a bit lighter in the face. But you, you have pretty patterns! Mine has tried to teach me much> it went unsaid that she didn’t remember most of it < and sometimes the noisy one tries to help. She brought back a piece of curly plant for me to see, and Mine told me it was ivy. Some of your patterns look like ivy.>
“ No, I wasn’t Searched. My caravan was curious about all the rumors they’d heard, so I was sent to get the truth. Instead I got a dragon.”
Well, she was sorting through all the gossip too. In fact, in a way Vesaldyth made things easier, as she was expected to ask questions. And it gave her access to more information. For example, in Ahmenna she’d already found one seemingly like-minded person; practical and hard-working, unlike some of the stories she’d heard about the Weyr-bred.
“ Shrieker’ll try eating anything that doesn’t eat her first.” She angled her shoulder and jiggled it a bit when Shrieker hesitated. The flitt reached out cautiously, then in a flash had snapped up the meat and was back in her previous position as she chewed on her mouthful. “ She seems to approve.”
< I want some!>
Nyasa offered a piece to Vesaldyth, who chewed it thoughtfully.
< It is… different>

Eiran blushed fiercely when Kharmeen bowed. "I'm Eiran and that," he nodded towards the bronze dragon, "is Laeonaith. and please don't do that. I can't stand it." He made a little face. "I'm not anything special, I wasn't even supposed to impress." The young weyrling looked terribly uncomfortable.
Laeonaith chimed in, seemingly totally unaware of the conversation His was involved in.
"I look forward to meeting your cousin." Eiran said, ignoring the gluttonous dragon who appeared to be well content. "Was Phiroth in Suunath's clutch or the Crimson's clutch, do you remember?"

Phiroth got up and walked around Vesaldyth as she stretched her wings out. Coming and settling back down, the green carefully stretched her wings out for the other green to see. <'Menna. You must show me ivy. I want to see what I look like. Noisy ones? Oh the little ones. Yes, we do not have any of those yet.>
"Maybe you came to my hold sometime? We are north of Eron Hold, along the coast. No real official name, just a bunch of us together in the craft. A good living too." Ahmenna replied. "The dolphins helped from time to time but I think I am the first dragon rider ever from our family. It would have been nice for Khar' to Impress as well. Not sure if he is going to stay or go."
Chuckling at the green, she pulled another piece of meat and offered it. "Have you taught her any tricks yet? `````````````` Kharmeen shrugged. "Ah, but you are special now. Not only do you have a dragon but he has a shine to his hide. You are going to have to work on accepting that. And from what I can tell, there are quite a few who weren't supposed to Impress but did."
Pleased to see the little one eating, Khar' almost missed Eiran's question. "You know, I am not sure. I haven't had the chance to catch up with her yet. Though I think she was from Suunath's clutch if I am not mistaken."
