Anyone had a chance to look at the units or weapons from this book?

I wouldn't call it a great lain out book, takes some searching to find the relevant wargear, but there's interesting stuff in there for sure. Here's hoping that the Imperial Army shows up in the next one.

Well you need to remember, the Imperial Guard were not involved in the battle at Istvan III at all. If they do Istvan V next we still will not get Preheresy Guard. At least we finally have a basis for a Mechanicus army.

The Imperial Guard wasn't around until after the Heresy, the Imperial Army however.. wink Also, the Imperial Army was involved in the fighting around Istvan III, they certainly get a few mentions in the novels and audio drama concerned with the event.

Not that I remember. I've read the books multiple times now, and I have read the Horus Heresy 1 from cover to cover. The battle on Istvan III was Astartes, and the Titanicus. Unless the crew of the tanks were Imperial Army. The whole point of the attack on Istvan II was to rid the 4 Legions of the remaining suspected Loyalists. If I used the term Guard instead of Imperial Army I appologize. I have a bad habit of using them interchangably when talking about the Heresy Era.

Imperial Army gets a mention in the audio drama "Legion of One" where they find the body of an Imperial Army soldier clutching an Aquila pendant.

I do remember that reference, thank you. Now that I have looked again it does say the Imperial Army was part of the assault on Istvan III, but other than the fact that they were there I cannot verify what they did or what part of the Army was deployed. The only thing I can figure is that Army armored units were deployed planet-side. The book lists the crew stats for tanks as human crewed, but you can upgrade them to an Astartes crew.

I think they were also down there, in the thick of it, fighting. Just because the book has no stats on the Imperial Army does not automatically mean that they weren't there. The Army also had its pro-Legion and pro-Emperor factions, one of the earlier novels pointed this out, even going as far as assassinating an Imperial Army general for not being pro-Horus.

I'm not just saying there are no stats, there is a map of how the Legion forces were deployed. On the map it show the Sons of Horus, Death Guard, World Eaters, Emperors Children, Legio Mortis, and Ordo Reductor. This book is like the Imperial Armour books before it. It contains background information and rules to play your own Istvan III campaign. Anyways using the backstabbing tactics that Horus uses on the Loyalists would be complete overkill for Loyalist Imperial Army.
