 Winter is here.
What flay could be gathered in the burrows for nesting and eating through the hard months ahead has been, and the rabbits familiar or not alike are beginning to settle into the slower rhythm of eleer.
The Rah, however, has been disquiet. Old as she was, the Chief marli would sit topside in the cold for long minutes, staring at something only she could see. Whispers and rumors were starting to spread, and some of the originals to this warren began wondering if there really was a disease after all.
Then there came a day when she called Lark and his runners to her burrow and shared with them a plan.
She recounted the Owsla buck they had killed to take over this warren, and how he had spoken of another warren on a hill that couldn't be far. This, the Rah confided, was what had been taking up a lot of her thoughts lately. Numbers were few, their Owsla nearly obliterated, and there were hardly any does left at all. Almost none from the original band that had taken over this warren by the river.
And Ethilerah couldn't very well trust the does that had sworn her as their Chief only recently, though this she did not share. But the question gnawed at her as certainly as the cold. Who would be the next Chief when she stopped running? With no daughters left, and her time for kittening long past, the worry of what would happen to her rabbits and their way of life sat heavily on her.
What stories would be told about her? Would she be remembered as the Rah that saved her people no matter the cost, or the foolish doe that was the last female Chief before her people were destroyed?
But those were private concerns, and with the runners now gone to their task, she mulled over the questions to which she had no answers.--------------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome! For this contest you will be playing the part of a male "hlessi", acting as a wanderer rabbit to try and complete your mission set before you. This disguise is to help you get closer to Watership Down and to give you a cover story. It also protects the new warren so they are not discovered, hopefully! You and four others have been sent from a newly formed warren to try and lure rabbits away from Watership Down to strengthen your own numbers. In particular you're after does, but any rabbit willing to follow you is a blessing, and this will not be without danger. PLEASE READ ALL THE BACKSTORY AND INFO ON THIS NEW WARREN BEFORE PARTICIPATING! It will help your chances greatly!

How to Enter
This is an RP contest to be a part of the team of bucks that travel in search of Watership Down in order to recruit rabbits to join your warren.
You have the advantage of having food and water in plenty, which during this harsh winter is quite the commodity. Your way of life also puts a higher standing on females which might help lure away those that are unsatisfied with life on the Down.
You will fill out the form to the best of your ability, creating a preference list of the bucks offered as well as a backstory.
After the event closes winners will be announced and they will start their journey.
-------------------------
Rules
- Yes, your rabbit is male. There are very few females left, which is why recruiting does to your warren is a high priority.
- You can choose to be either from the 'old' warren that began traveling in Spring or one of the survivors of the take-over of the warren by the river in the forest that surrendered and has joined the female-dominant warren.
- Yes, you can create a story about your kittens left behind, your mate dying, etc. Feel free to give your character as much depth as you like. Your buck can even have a Mark if you'd like, even if the doe doesn't exist yet or has died.
- Yes, you can use the name Lark from the backstory if you wish to play the part of that runner. Please make a note of it in your entry. I described him vaguely as brown, so you may only use the name if you win a brown buck.
- You can only enter once, but may edit your entry until the close of the contest.
- Please be aware that your buck CAN DIE. A fight very well might break out, or there might be other unknown dangers. I do not anticipate a lot of violence until perhaps later in the Meta, and there will be a large warning when we're approaching choppy waters.
- PLEASE READ ALL THE INFORMATION REGARDING THE NEW WARREN. There's a lot, and it's very different from Watership. Your writing will reflect your comprehension of the backstory, and we're looking for people that enjoy the new warren and wish to join it and help push the Meta along.
- Your rabbit will be colored on the alt-warren's lines once the Meta is done and they are no longer pretending to be hlessi.

I want to be a part of this tale!
Your preference list: 1 4 3 2 5
Tentative rabbit's name: Yona
Original Warren: taken-over
Your rabbit's Backstory/Personality: Survival is everything.
Yona grew up in the taken-over warren and watched friends and relatives die during the invasion. His cousin was one of the runners who left and never returned. His mate died fighting. Yona did not fight; he hid and waited out the battle, surrendering as soon as he was found. He does not view himself as a coward, merely a realist. Small, scrawny... his mate picked him for his looks, not his brawn. There's no point in fighting a doomed fight.
Since he values survival so highly, Yona is oddly forgiving of the invaders, and even respects them for their strength and tactical know-how. He finds himself in a tough position under the new warren's rule, however. He isn't a member of the invading warren, making him suspicious, and he doesn't know all the new rules, making him liable to say or do the wrong thing.
He volunteered for the mission with a couple goals in mind: prove his loyalty, impress a female enough to get marked, and escape to Watership Down if he feels it's a safer/stronger warren. ((OoC note: The last goal is a closely kept secret and once he sees the poor food situation and political instability of the Watership Down warren, he'll decide to remain loyal to the invaders.))
Although he maintains a quiet, submissive attitude, Yona has a keen mind. He's a poor fighter, but a clever talker. He has no desire to be an owsla officer or a runner, but that doesn't mean he's devoid of ambition. His former mate was a well respected and beloved owsla officer, after all. He's a bit of a cold minded schemer and the new mark system suits him well because it means he can use other rabbits to improve his own reputation.
How your rabbit views this mission and where they belong in the 'team': Yona is content to let other rabbits lead. He'll offer well timed advice, but little more. He's used to being overlooked and ignored; he likes it better that way. Although a member of the team, he'll take a decidedly individual approach to things. Once within the warren, he'll distance himself from his team mates, pretending he never met them before and only meeting with them now and then to compare notes and strategize. He'll argue that this approach minimizes suspicion since hlessi are generally solitary rabbits, but he's also doing it so that he can deny any involvement if one or more of his team mates get caught. He doesn't know if the mission will succeed or fail, nor does he particularly care. One way or another, he'll turn things to his advantage. His strategy is the same in either case: recruit as many discontent rabbits to his own cause as possible. If he can lead them back to his old warren, great! If the plan fails and he's stuck in Watership Down, at least he's stuck there with a private posse.

I want to be a part of this tale!
Your preference list: 1 or 4 can't decide for first place then 3 and 2
Tentative rabbit's name: Lark
Original Warren: Main Warren
Your rabbit's Backstory/Personality: Neutral Evil, Anti-Hero
Liking his place in the Warren because he can do as he pleases, Lark tends to test the boundaries of the warren's rules. He's very good at what he does and is on a bit of a blade's edge with the chief. Not a very well loved rabbit, Lark doesn't mind, in fact it helps him to be more distant when... complications arise.
Born into the warren and raised there, Lark knows his duties are to the warren. He doesn't care if he dies, or how many he has to kill, he'll do it to achieve his goals. Lark's goals are his Chief's goals and so he is always well trusted. He'll follow the Cheif's orders so long as they aid in the growth of his home warren.
If Lark's warren were to die out, he'd make a deal with the black rabbit just so that he could get out revenge on all of their enemies.
How your rabbit views this mission and where they belong in the 'team': Lark knows he's leading his team off to what probably will result in their deaths. He sees their worried faces, their insecurities. They don't have honor, when they get back maybe a good doe will pick them for kitting. Maybe they'll even get to look after the ones they brought back, made sure they settled in and all. But if they die, so be it, more does for the rest of the warren.

I want to be a part of this tale!
Your preference list: 1, 3, 4
Tentative rabbit's name: Thlayli
Original Warren: The main one the story is focused on.
Your rabbit's Backstory/Personality: Li left with his fellow warren mates on what he was sure was a mission that would seal their doom. He assumed they'd all be dead so he's very surprised and honored he's alive. He left little ones back at their old warren and hopes they're still alive. Very much a family rabbit he hopes to have more and have a female to share them with. His female was killed in the takeover.
How your rabbit views this mission and where they belong in the 'team': Li knows their mission is probably doomed to failure but also knows that their survival rests in his paws. He knows that they can have all the food in the world but without new blood they will all still die. He wants very much to bring females back, not just for himself but what is left of his warren.

I want to be a part of this tale!
Your preference list: 4 or 3
Tentative rabbit's name: Toadstool
Original Warren: Taken-over
Your rabbit's Backstory/Personality: Despite seeming innocent, this bunny is a regular actor, and perfect for the job he's being assigned. He had never settled down, as no female had seemed worth his time, though he never would show it on the surface. When his warren became overrun, he was among the first to give up, playing if off with a lazy smile and keeping his head down when necessary. His true nature is much more malicious, and he had been somewhat known to never show mercy and skillfully fight off elil who came too close to the warren, ill-intended or not [though they could never prove it had been him to do it. The silly, air-headed rabbit he claimed to be was better known so everything else had been brushed off as the work of other, bigger elil.] Now, finding himself easily allied with the stronger, now-in-control females, he keeps it under wraps until he can properly gain his warren's trust with this assignment.
[[ Chief would probably know about his true nature easily, but he hides it from the rest of the warren to see what they gossip amongst themselves. ]]
How your rabbit views this mission and where they belong in the 'team': The way he sees it, he will play dumb, get along with all that he can and play a 'big brother' role to any who need it, hearing the complaints and problems and offering his little paw to help where he can. If the higher-ups get suspicious, he'll stick to his guns and kindly brush away all their fears with the idiotic logic of his facade character.

I want to be a part of this tale!
Your preference list: 2, 1, 4, 3, 5
Tentative rabbit's name: Lark
Original Warren: Main Focus
Your rabbit's Backstory/Personality: Lark is an average rabbit, neither large nor small, but he is far from a push over and tends to let his teeth and claws do the talking when having to toss his weight around. He was born and raised in the warren that he and the others had left behind and it troubles his heart to think of the young and the old who were left behind - surely they had stopped running by now. Lark isn't a terrible rabbit, nor is he overly kind, but he has a good head on his shoulders and takes warren life seriously. His actions are and have always been for the good of the warren as a collective and he feels little to no remorse for taking out the rabbits of this newfound warren. Those who were right of mind joined them , those who were not were killed. It was the way of life and, unfortunately, sometimes life is cruel. It's something he has long since come to acknowledge and while his mind sometimes flits to the thought of returning for young and old, he knows it's unlikely that any are alive and would be a waste of time and rabbit power.
He and his runners are needed to tend to the new down.
Sure, he has firm, paws, a good head on his shoulder, and enough common sense to keep things together, but he is not without his faults. He tends to have a bit of a temper sometimes and can be known to act aggressively on a whim towards other rabbits who refuse to listen, especially when he knows he is right. He is also quick to not only try and dominate a situation, especially around males who could be competition, but also quick to do his best to impress does. He has not yet been brought into a mark, despite his diligence and hard work, and he's hoping to win favor amongst the high ranking does in the warren... This infiltration could be just what he needs.
How your rabbit views this mission and where they belong in the 'team': Lark has always been more of a leader and views this mission as opportunity - both for the warren to grow and thrive after all the poor luck they have had and also as an opportunity for himself to gain favor in the warren. He's survived this far and isn't about to lay low when honor and favor could be just around the corner. He is an all or nothing sort and will definitely give this mission his all.

I want to be a part of this tale!
Your preference list: 2, 1, 3, 5
Tentative rabbit's name: Potato
Original Warren: The one that got taken over.
Your rabbit's Backstory/Personality: Potato wasn’t a terribly happy rabbit before most of his old warren was wiped out. He is a soft spoken and meek male, and he was among the lowest ranking adults in the warren. He doesn’t hold a grudge towards the rabbits that killed his old bullies, but he is a bit skittish and fears that he’ll end up in the bottom of the pecking order again. He's not comfortable around other survivors from his old warren since they would all know him as extremely low ranking. It’s a relief to him that the invading rabbits tend to put their marli in charge. It makes him feel like less of a failure for not exactly being owsla material.
How your rabbit views this mission and where they belong in the 'team': He volunteered when the mission was announced. He will do what he’s told and he will try to do it well, but secretly fears that they’re all going to stop running. But on the other paw... he’s got little to lose. Hopefully he can woo some females with his submissive style, and if that fails he might at least better the odds of his team mates. It could go either way. In a life or death situation he might revert to his old ways and go tharn and compromise the group, or he might be able to move past fear of dying and go crazy-brave to save them all. Either way it’s likely that he’ll end up dead.

I want to be a part of this tale!
Your preference list: 1, 4, 5, 2, 3
Tentative rabbit's name: Feather Ear (If number 1), Lark ( If 4, 5, 2) and Snowy Owl ( 3 )
Original Warren: Main story one
Your rabbit's Backstory/Personality: (I’m gonna use the name Feather Ear throughout the entry, but it would basically be moved over to each of the rest of the rabbits. XD)
Feather Ear was born to an owsla and a runner, and while his parli had wanted him to go for owsla and he even tried he simply didn’t make it and proved at the same time that he was cut from the runner cloth like his marli. He wound up with a crush on the Rah’s daughter in his young years and spent the better part of his young life going out of his way to impress her.
So when she finally came around and marked him he was possibly one of the happiest bucks around. It had been very much like a dream come true, and the better part of his life was a happy one. One might think living in a military like setting would suck the life out of most things but it didn’t, not for him. He was happy.
He was brought up to believe completely in his Rah, to trust her without question and she has never done wrong by him. So though it hurt him so completely to leave his first ever litter behind in the warren he did. A part of him aches not knowing if they are alive or dead though he presumes them dead; a tiny voice in the back of his mind is always hoping they might still live.
He should be bitter, angry, but he isn’t, though he hurts to know his mate is dead. He trust in his chief, she has led them here and he knows that while he is missing a mate she is missing her daughter. He is loyal to her though, and brave perhaps a bit foolish in his blind trust. He is kind though, and can be playful with a bit of a trickster streak in him. Though he has been a bit more somber as of late, he is normally upbeat and positive.
How your rabbit views this mission and where they belong in the 'team':
Feather is more of a leader type or a second in command sort. He is loyal and can follow orders well but he tends to have a moral compass that is hard for him to ignore and will challenge something he sees as wrong.
He sees this mission as a chance, as hope. He believes in this mission, but knows it will take some effort and cunning. Still his Rah has ordered it to be and he will make it so, if his last breath is drawn on this mission then that is how it shall end. This will not deter him though, he will bolster his warren’s forces and he will treat this mission with the care it deserves.

I want to be a part of this tale!
Your preference list: 4, 1, 5, 2, 3
Tentative rabbit's name: Ginger Paw [4] Other names pending
Original Warren: Main Warren
Your rabbit's Backstory/Personality: Ginger Paw was something of a quiet kitten that grew to be an even quieter outskirter. He was never one to stand out among a group, preferring to keep to the shadows and let the others hold the spotlight. His humble, and often overlooked, efforts to gain a position in the warren did not go completely unnoticed however. He gained the eye of a certain owsla, whose good word earned him a spot amongst the runners, and it was not long after that she gave him a mark of her own. It was his modest nature, she had said, that set him apart from the crowd, so unlike all the other doe eyed bucks that had no shame in their desires to win her heart and consequently a higher standing in their warren. It was a blessing from frith, he was sure, but soon it was found to be more of a curse. It was not long after they began their search for a new warren that Ginger Paw fell victim to conceit, feeling important for the first time in his life with a lovely, respected doe by side. It all went to his head, and he found himself turning into one of the very bucks his mate held such contempt for.
Little did he know, his mate held a worry close to her heart, a worry that, with the impending mission to find a new warren, was weighing heavier on her mind with each passing day. She was unsure when, or if, she would ever have the opportunity to litter kittens, and while this mission was meant to be a simple one, it took a turn for the worse, and so did her fortune. Sometime after they had left out, she discovered herself to be pregnant. It should have been a gift, but the outlook was bleak and hopes were wearing thin. It looked as though the mission would take much longer than they antiscipated, so she kept the news to herself, not wanting word to travel. Convinced she would not weaken the group, and being convinced they would see this as nothing but a burden, she kept the matter from every buck and doe, her own mate, their parli, included. Unfortunately, this proved to be her downfall. It was only after an unexpected run-in with elil, her mate there to rescue her a moment too late, that she informed him of their litter that would never have the pleasure of running with them.
It brought Ginger Paw back down to earth, grounding his head that had been playing among the clouds. He became distracted, unable to focus on tasks that were growing more complicated with the new found owsla that were roaming close, and it was something he would regret until he joined the thousand.
The bloodshed from the takeover of the warren proved to be too much for his mind to handle, the color so very similar to the blood that had stained his doe’s bellyfur. He fell into his own mind, barely escaping with his own life, and missing the opportunity to save his mate from a fatal blow.
Ginger Paw did not cope well, but with time and the security of a warren they had all fought for, the life began to return to his eyes. He began returning to his older self, wearing a soft smile, and realized he would rather be living for the family he lost than wallowing in a pit of despair that would forever rain on the new opportunity he had been given.
How your rabbit views this mission and where they belong in the 'team': At first, Ginger Paw was disinclined to agree with the mission. Missions were rarely, if ever, without fault, and he did not have the mental or physical health to carry out one that could go downhill so easily. However, a moment of time spent with his Rah shone light on such a dim outlook, and he began to understand the importance of this mission. While still weary, he feels they really have no choice. It is do or die, and while he would not mind the opportunity to meet his family once more, he is not willing to give up the one reason behind all the sacrifice. He may not have the mind to lead such a mission, but he will do whatever it takes to make this a success.
