My newest obsession is Robin McKinley books. She writes what I would consider to be the best fantasy books I've ever read. I even liked her retell of Beauty and the Beast. Her best, though, are the books about her created country of Damar and the surrounding countries.

Robin McKinley really has a knack for rewriting old tales. I've read Spidle's End, Deerskin, The Outlaws of Sherwood, and Sunshine. Sunshine, fo course, isn't a retold tale, but an original on her part. She has the impressive ability to make you see something that was not there before. I truelly enjoy reading her work, though I must admit that her protrayal of Robin Hood was, while realistic, sadly depressing. It thoroughly burst my bubble. I wouldn't be suprised if that's how events went, rather than the romantic view we give it.

Robin Mckinley is one of the best authors of our day! I enjoyed all of her books. I was just thinking about starting over again from the beginning the other day. I believe i shall...

Unfortunately, I have only had a chance to read The Blue Sword and The Hero and the Crown. Although I enjoyed each, of the two, The Blue Sword is definitely my favorite.
I love McKinley's land, Damar, especially the magical aspects and the desert natives. I also thought it was well written and told a unique story with enough unexpected plot turns to keep any reader satisfied.

I've read Beauty 6 times since last summer. I have tally on the inside of the cover. It only takes me a night. I have no life.

I've read Beauty and A Knot in the Grain and Other Stories. They're not my favorites, but both were enjoyable. I adore fairy tale retellings, so I am looking forward to reading more of her's.

I've read Beauty, Spindle's End, and the Damar series. My favorite would either have to beee Beauty or the Hero & the Crown. I've noticed that she has a weird habit of making all (or a good number) of her romances between a girl and a much older guy. There's nothing really wrong with it though I guess, it's not like any of them are on their way to the nursing home or anything.

I've read ALL of her books. She is my absolute favorite author. heart To anyone who's read Beauty or likes the tale of "Beauty & the Beast": GO READ Rose Daughter NOW! Oh please? It would make me so happy. Really, before I read Beauty, I'd never really cared for the original fairy tale. Now anything remotely related to it catches my eye. And Rose Daughter is such a b e a u t i f u l story. I'd be reading it right now if I hadn't lent it to my best friend.

*love*
I have read a few of her books, but my favorite by far is Deerskin. Second after that is The Hero and the Crown. I have also read The Blue Sword, Spindle's End , and Beauty.
But seriously, if you have not read Deerskin yet, get to it!!!!

Love Beauty, Rose Daughter, Spindle's End... Couldn't believe she wrote Sunshine--so different (and also good). When I first finished The Blue Sword, I sat with it closed in my lap for a minute, heartbroken that the book had ended. Then I turned the cover and just started reading it over again. I've never done THAT with a book before or since.
