User Image Outside the warren the world was grey with clouds and early winter rains. It drizzled all morning and most the warren was snug and safe underground. Some went out on patrols and others out to find food in the scant places in the wilds. Deep within the warren a young kitten sat at the edge of her mother's hole. Small ears twitched atop her head as pale pink eyes watched those that moved past in the runs and brought food to the other marlis like her own mother. Burdock scratched an ear in unease, she hated sitting around. She was ready to move, she wanted out of the warren and into the open.

Looking back over her shoulder towards her brothers and marli. She had yet to really see her father, if he really was filling that role for them. Whiskers puckering on the sides of her nose, the brown and grey kitten thumped a foot. She wanted adventure and she wasn't going to find it here. "Wake up you lazy bones!" Burdock shouted in the direction of her brothers. "Or you going to just stay here and sleep like good little kitten?"

Burdock often tried playing the cute little, do no wrong, kitten that everyone thought she was. But deep down she was a do'er and had itches sometimes that she had to scratch. This was one of those days that she wanted to get out of the burrow and explore some of the warren, away from her marli's watch. She knew this was trouble, but if she was going to watch the place, she needed to know just what she was watching.. Right?

Blackavar yawned and stretched, a bit put off at his sister's rude awakening. He was having a very pleasant dream, one where they were outside with Hlal'loir and Lichen, enjoying an afternoon siflay. It wasn't anything exciting or noteworthy, just a pleasant and boring dream in and of itself.

The brown furred kitten yawned once more, sitting up as he peered blearily towards the only doe of the litter.

"You keep goin' on so loud and ma will hear ya. Catch ya, too." He wrinkled his nose. He was tired of sitting still in the snug, warm burrow, but he knew it was far too chilly to go above ground yet. They'd been brought out by Hlal to listen to the storytellers in the honeycomb a few times in the past, but not in the past few turns of the sun.

Da was usually too busy hunting down flay for Hlal, so that she could provide their little ones with rich milk, thus he hadn't seen his father too often and didn't expect the male would interrupt a bit of exploration.

Burdock bore tiny teeth at her brother as he spoke to her in hushed voices. She knew to be quiet, but she was getting impatient and impatience irritated her to the point of headed off to do things herself. She always figured that if she wanted something done right, she had to do it herself. Shaking her head, she watched Blackavar as he rose from sleep to join her on her hunt for something to do. Fur itching all over with things that weren't so easy to scratch, Burdock was proving that she wasn't a sit around kind of kitten and wouldn't be so even as a doe. She had to move, do things to keep herself occupied.

"Well hurry up or I'll leave you behind." Burdock said in a little more quiet voice, before she turned around and disappeared around a corner away from the burrow. It was there she waited for her brother, out of sight of their marli.

"Wait up!"

The little, darkly furred buck practically hissed as he slipped away from the side of their sleeping marli. She stretched and mumbled in her sleep, which caused him to freeze rather suddenly. When she didn't awake, however, he was quick to dart out into the run where Burdock hid. It was lined with many different routes, some runs to the surface and others led into burrows. Given the time of year, there were few kittens around to zip up and down them.

"Whattare we doin' out here, anyway?" The young buck snorted as he caught up with his sister, pressing his nose to her side, before hopping up the run a bit a ways. He thought he could remember how to get to the honeycomb, but he wasn't completely sure. He hadn't been able to explore too terribly much.
