Name:
Ja'kki (Jaykkial)
Age: 26
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual
Previous craft/rank: Apprentice Vinter

History:
Jaykkial defined Weyrbrat. From the moment she could walk that girl was a headache for the creche workers. She never liked to share, never liked to be picked last, and never 'played nice' with others. Rather than throw tantrums when she didn't get her way, Jaykkial was a fighter. She would hit, kick and bite anyone who crossed her. No amount of punishment seemed to dissuade her from her violent ways, and more often than not, she was 'encouraged' to other tasks rather than be allowed to roam with the other children.

When her education began under the harpers supervision she showed a surprising drive to excel. She hated to see the other kids get congratulated or given higher marks than her and would bend her mind to her studies with a determination she only ever showed when fighting (for she still did that on a daily basis). Jaykkial reached the age to be apprenticed showing no outwards talents for any one craft. She continued her general education, growing steadily more contrary as puberty hit.

She began Standing as soon as she was old enough. With her drive to be the best she was not about to stand by and just watch as other kids became dragonriders without her. In her mind it didn't matter what rank you held in a craft, dragonriders would always be on top of the pecking order. Growing up in the weyr, that's just how it seemed.

After being left behind on her first two clutches she finally grudgingly decided to apprentice to a Vinter in the area, taking lessons and training with him for a few days out of every sevenday, the rest of her time still occupied with her duties as a Candidate.

As with everything, she threw herself into the craft. It may not be her passion (that was still dragonriding) but she wasn't about to let the other apprentices get the better of her. Jaykkial developed a taste for the dark beers brewed by the Malvren crafter, whether he noticed or not as the young apprentice began to steal tastes whenever she wasn't being watched.

Once she discovered the 'joys' of beer and wine you can be assured this candidate found herself in progressively worse trouble. Whole skins would disappear on occasion and more than one a group of bleary eyed candidates could barely crawl out of bed in the morning. Twice, she had her candidacy revoked and was forced to punishment duties while a clutch Hatched on the Sands. She nearly lost her apprenticeship at one point as well, only barely holding onto it because of her work ethic and aptitude she'd developed for the craft.

At 17 Jaykkial earned back the chance to Stand and was essentially on her 'third strike'. While she never really went straight, she spent more and more of her time in her craft and less with the rest of the candidates. While she still attended her lessons and did most of her chores, she actually did a decent job in staying out of trouble (or at least not getting caught).

Lucky for her, her next clutch would be the one she'd been waiting for. Egg after egg cracked and found theirs. Two even clawed their way into the Stands to find their riders. As it came down to the last few eggs and the Weyrwoman was gearing up to hatch the atypicals, one of the smallest finally spilled it's occupant, tired of fighting against her tough shell.

Little yellow eyes peered out from between the shell's fragments, searching hesitantly before the long little body slithered out and darted directly towards Jaykkial. There was a moments confusion as the slender green wrapped herself around the small teen's shins before that lyrical voice and the overwhelming feeling of Impression brought Jaykkial to her knees.

~ Jaykkialmine! I am sorry I took so long. I won't keep you waiting anymore! ~ Anxious loving little croons turned into a bleat of joy as the pair embraced for the first time.

Jaykkial, now Ja'kki's, world changed in that moment. She'd become a dragonrider, but rather than that launching her to the top of the status pole she found herself at a whole new low. The shocking treatment and views on greenrider's infuriated her, and even more so, the amount of ridicule directed at her and a few other new greenriders, purely because their dragons were smaller than average.

Between fights and punishments she managed to form friendships with a few other like-minded riders. The formation of The Bolts gave her a direction and an outlet for her energy and emotions, and while she still got into as much trouble as before, now she had allies.

She, just like the other 5 Bolt riders, still was unhappy with the lack of respect and recognition they received. They'd proven their strength's over and over again to no avail. They were by far the best riders in the Weyr and yet they were always held back. It came to a head for Ja'kki when riders were selected for the Mystweed missions. Were not she and her team the best suited for such a job? Apparently not as none of them were even considered. Ja'kki was firm and loud in her beliefs that not as many would have been lost to Time or Thread had the Bolts been on the job.

Keller's whispered words of revolution were like a beacon in the dark. What they could not earn, they would take. Ja'kki's status as a greenrider came into use finally as she played up the flirtatious stereotype and collected information from those oh so important metallic riders. Anyone really who might be useful to Keller became a target for Ja'kki's false affections.

In Ja'kki's mind it was largely due to their help that Keller managed to claim not one Weyr but two. Their constant flow of information and their quick strike during the demonstration (during which they all conveniently decided to stay at home) sealed Malvren's fate and despite the drawn out fighting, the traditionalist dragonriders were never able to gain a strong footing against the Revolutionists at Malvren.

Description:
Ja'kki's short and she knows it. There's no point in pointing it out unless you want a bruised kneecap (or worse you tall bastards). She topped off at 5'1" as a kid and never grew another inch. She keeps herself clean and her appearance presentable, preferring to dress herself in serviceable gear on the off chance a whim will send her and Emerath into the air at any moment. Sturdy pants boots and belts are a requirement, as well as gloves and goggles, which are normally tucked into a loop somewhere if not worn. Ja'kki keeps her hair short for ease of care. Brown hair, Brown Eyes, fair skin. She's pretty enough to serve but no exceptional beauty. Ja'kki falls firmly in the 'adorable' category... unless you know her.

Ja'kki often wears a leather cross belt decorated with tiny metal claws. While she has not said so out loud, these were commissioned as a count of how many fell to her and Emerath's claws.

Personality:
Ja'kki is one that should never be underestimated. As a terminal sufferer of 'small dog' syndrome she is perfectly willing and even eager to put you in your place and show you how 'cute' she can be. Not to say that she's a mean or angry person though. Ja'kki's just full of energy and her favorite way of expending it is through rough housing and games. You've got to be able to keep up with her. She doesn't go easy on anyone. She's daring and adventurous and determined to be the best at everything she possibly can be.

Ja'kki will latch onto a path, an idea, a job and give everything she has towards it. There is no can't. There is no stop. She does exactly what she wants and if she fails, well then she just has to try harder! As a firm optimist, you can't keep Ja'kki down.

You can tick her off though. Ja'kki may seem shallow on the surface but she's sharper than needlethorn when crossed. Ja'kki doesn't let things go or drop. She will poke at that festering sore until it pops or heals over, whichever comes first. She doesn't forget and forgiveness is pretty much out of the question unless Emerath REALLY likes you. Like a lot. Really. I mean, you have to be something pretty damn special. Pretty much, you don't exactly have a shot is what I'm getting at.

Among her close friends, ie: The Bolts, Ja'kki shows another side. She trusts her teammates with her life and is as loyal as a blooded wher. It allows her to relax around them and teasing that would get a 'lesser rider' creamed, is tolerated and even encouraged from The Bolts. Alone with them she could almost be called cuddly. She's affectionate and caring in her own oddball way.

In general, as long as you aren't insulting, or insulted by her then she'll probably like you. Don't expect her to fall madly in love with you or even call you a good friend but if you can keep up with her she'll remember and call you by name. Ja'kki likes people, likes being around people, likes challenging and playing with people, and likes flipping people s**t when they're jerks (Or one of her close friends).

After loosing V'i and L'roh she's withdrawn from her former outgoing personality just enough to be noticed by those who knew her from before. She still fakes it pretty well but she lashes out more often and at times hints of bitterness that weren't there before peek out. Her optimism still holds for the most part but it's hard to always look on the bright side when you've lost someone you loved.

Other: Not so much a weapons person but can wrestle and take down riders much larger than herself.

Dragon
Name: Emerath
Age: 8
Colour: Green
Size/build: Very Small/Very Slim

Description: When it comes to bone structure and proportions, Emerath is a perfect green in miniature. If it wasn't for the bold color of her hide, some might have thought she was a white. Emerath's proportions are lovely for her tiny size. There are no stubby legs or over-long wings on this dainty little girl. Slender to an almost extreme, Emerath is built like her rider with long lean muscle and almost no bulk. She is incredibly light weight which makes her inclusion with the Bolts an almost given from the cracking of her shell.

Personality:
Emerath is a sleek, quick little thing in both mind and body. She'll do anything and go anywhere with the right encouragement. It's just hard for her to get started. She worries about the repercussions and consequences of her actions. This worry can be enough to hold her back from something, even if she really wants it.

Emerath seeks approval. She wants to love and be loved by others, as such she hates when people are upset and often does everything in her ability to keep the peace between waring parties. Her presence is often the warm soothing balm that calms tempers and brings them down to a level where they can work things out diplomatically.

Bringing people up though is slightly beyond her. She can offer the general platitudes and common phrases and reassurances that you always hear, but tackling the deeper problem is beyond her expertise. When confronted with something like that she'll offer physical comfort, lots of thrums, croons and nuzzles, and a feeling of 'everything is going to be ok', but that's all she's got. If someone better suited to help is nearby, she'll reach out to them instead.

Much like her rider, once settled or guided to a path she will give her all. Unlike her rider, she understands her own limits and refuses to be pushed beyond them. She'll work till she aches but she'll stop before she breaks.

The revolution was hard on her. Fighting's not in her nature, but her loyalty to her rider and her sisters was more important to her and with a little rationalization and convincing, Emerath was able to preform her duty admirably.

Why did this dragon choose their rider?: Jaykkial seemed like exactly what she needed. The moment the teen Touched her shell there was a flash of connection, of kindred spirits. Both had an enthusiasm for life and adventure that couldn't quit and neither liked being held back because of their small size. Jaykkial was the kickstart, the encourager, that Emerath needed to break through her shyness and hesitation. Where Emerath is adept at soothing the ruffled feathers Jaykkial inevitably leaves in her wake. She also saw, deep beneath that spiky little exterior, a very affectionate girl who given the right opportunity would give her whole heart to another.
