Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-36 750 Horsepower Turbine Engine
The Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-36 750 Horsepower Turbine Engine is one of the PT6 series turbine engines, one of the most popular turboprop aircraft engines in history, and is produced by Pratt & Whitney Canada. The PT6 family is particularly well known for its extremely high reliability, with MTBO's on the order of 9000 hours in some models. In US military use, they are designated as T74 or T101. The main variant, the PT6A, is available in a wide variety of models, covering the power range between 580 and 920 shaft horsepower in the original series, and up to 1,940 shp (1,450 kW) in the "large" lines. The PT6B and PT6C are turboshaft variants for helicopters.
This particular version, is a "small" variant, that generates roughly 750 horsepower, and has relatively good efficiency. The engine in particular has been capable of remaining roughly the same size and weight, with improved techniques and materials increasing it's power output over time.
Being extraordinarily reliable, versatile, and powerful, and one of the most popular engine designs, it is naturally a choice for use in ground vehicles. Despite it's original design for use in aircraft, the high power mixed with high reliability at it's relatively small size and cost makes it an ideal engine to power vehicles.
It shares commonality among many engines within the vehicle.
