About the school
Originally founded in 1191 by Imperial edict, the School for Imperial Explorers exists to further explore and claim the lands of the former Ivory Kingdoms.
Originally located in the Second City, the school was relocated to a compound a day's travel south of the city. These days, promising samurai from all clans find themselves training to further the glory of the empire in the frontier.

Where other Unicorn samurai might fear to tread, Iuchi Seiji sought to explorer. When the young Seiji first came across a lost shrine to the Fortunes in an old, unexplored cave, he began to develop his love of the unknown and exploring.
Originally, when the unicorn were looking to send samurai to the Second City, Seiji was overlooked. While he was a skilled shugenja and researcher, it was his social faux pas at court that almost kept him from making his way to the colonies. However, with the help of some family favors, he was able to get there.
Since then, he has become considered the Second City's expert on Gaijin and the ruins of the Ivory Kingdoms. This, combined with his connection/friendship with the current Ivory Champion, Shinjo Tselu, made him the perfect candidate as leader of the Imperial Explorers after the disappearance of the former head, a martial minded Dragon bushi.

The face of the Imperial Explorers when the sensei can't be in the Second City, Miya Chikako is more than how she initially appears. At a first glance, she is cheerful and friendly. Her time away from the field and at the Ivory Court is oft productive. To many at court, her presence is like a breath of fresh air, which has lead her to become rather popular.
However, much of her facade is all she can do to keep from showing her true feeling. In actuality, Chikako dreads coming to the court. She has difficulties dealing with the pressures and politics of the court. Even worse, she has a fear of crowds, which makes the growing possibility of her becoming the official court representative for the explorers even more of a nightmare for her.
On the plus side, she loves the work that being with the Imperial Explorers gives her. She only wishes that she could simply ride off and explore the lost kingdoms, never to return to court again. Alas, her sense of duty keeps her tethered to her post.
