I wanna make a fancy avatar, but I just don't have enough gold nor do I know what to get.

So? Any suggestions on some oh-so-awesome items that I get for my avatar? (:

I've always thought that the Evolving Item, Zodiacal, gives a lot of diversity in just one item. You might like to look at it, because I would call it "oh-so-awesome"

Truly skilled Trainers should try to win...

Hm, well, I think that that's the only really diverse item that works with most anything that I can think of.
I wish you luck figuring out what you want to do with your avatar, though.

I'm with you on the budget issue (TAT) It's hard fixing up an avvy with limited gold. But sometimes, you can really pull it off =D I'm a sucker for alternative look-alikes xD For example, I would equip Chess Pieces as an alternative to White Body Dye, etc.

What I like to do is first determine the type of avatar I'm going for. I'd usually go with fantasy, gunning for the looks of a warrior-mage or a sage of some kind. Swords are so yesterday. Lolololol xD

Then I'd narrow it down by choosing my choice of color scheme. After that, I'd go crazy equipping as many items as I can find that relates to the theme I was going for xD Then the shortlisting ensues, in which I'd de-equip unnecessary items and perhaps hunt for cheaper alternatives thus cutting down the overall total price of the avatar/tektek.

I'll end my post by leaving you with several samples of my unused tektek designs just to give you a heads up or inspiration in creating yours =D
