Zagan, brother of Freya and the clan guardian stands on the shores of this beach. He wore black pants and no shirt. His hair was long and a celestial white-blue. For the Lead Guardian, Zagan was a well built man. Did I say man? I mean... Vampire.

He was a lonely vampire. Once had a beautiful mate, Esme. She was his reason of wanting to live forever as a vampire. Now, he is alone. He mourns his lost. Esme was poison by the enemy. Was fed wolfsbain. Zagan was not fullly alone though. He has two lovely sisters, Freya and Fawn. They too are vampires. Yet, out of all his siblings, it is Zagan who wished he was no such beast. Of course, it was a secret of his. Only Freya knows of his longing to not be vampire anymore. To not live.

The waves crashed in on themselves as they broke along the reef with a soft rumbling along the shore. Ebb of the waves rolled on smoothly washing away the footprints of all those it could reach. Miskal, baron of these lands, stood in the cool water. His eyes were closed, all other senses open and sharp. As the tide pulled the waves back the water lowered to his belt line. Under the gleaming sun the years of war could be seen through the marred skin that made his back and chest. The scars shown nearly white in contrast with tanned skin. He wore leggings alone in the ocean. His clothes and light armor were folded and set under the shade of a palm. With palms running along the waters surface he could feel the life essence of the aquatic life around him. Fish swam around him undisturbed by his presence. He was a common and now welcome visitor to the wildlife of the palms shore. Mind meandering along the paths of old his heart stopped on the memories of his beloved wife. Like many vampires he had lost the love of his life and many of his following generations to this war or that.

His mind settled on evening sky that had brought about his meeting Ilene. She had been a nobles daughter neighboring his fathers old lands. He had been pushed towards many women but found none appealing. In hopes of escaping the gala entirely he had snuck off barely evading his fathers gaze. Letting his feet guide him he found himself by the fountain. For a time he watched the sky change color in the rippling water. So engrossed was he that he had not heard the quiet footsteps of the lady who in later years would become his wife. She also had been suffocated by the entire night and was trying to escape for a time as well. On the opposite side of the fountain she stared at the waning sun. For the first time his breath caught in his throat and he was unable to even utter a greeting to announce his presence. Her expression was so full of sorrow it struck him to his very core. The pale lace and embroidered gown complimented her skin. She neither fair nor tan. Her chestnut hair had been curled and only partly put up to keep it out of her face. Such beauty had never affected him before. As the first stars twinkled their hello did he finally make himself known to her with a simple, "Hello."

Pulled from the memory abruptly, the image of his granddaughter, Rochelle, came into focus. She wore a dress in semblance to his memory of Ilene's. But there was something wrong. She was injured. The image of her brought a foreboding feeling of darkness. Her dress caught and she fell to the stones cutting her hands. The smell of her blood assaulted his senses. Rochelle looked up fearfully as a shadow fell over her. Of who? Who was pursuing his dear granddaughter? Who put such fear into her eyes? Torn from the vision his body trembled. No longer did the aquatic life swim about him peacefully. His breath was ragged as he stared wide eyed at the sun.

"What does these mean for Rochelle? Why now?"

Memories of Esme clouded his mind. He remembered the day they met. He remembered what she wore and smelled like. Esme had worn a long flowy soft pink dress that brought out her red hair. Her eyes were blue and had silkie smoothe light skin. On the day they met was a festival. He courted the young lady and asked her father for her hand in marriage. But the day Esme, Zagan, and his siblings became vampires was a almost a nightmare. Turned by their parents when all were near at death. Their lives were saved. I guess...

Zagan walked on through Palm Shores until the sight of Baron Miskal interrupted his thoughts. Miskal shared the same ranking as Zagan's sister, Freya. Usually, most barons were married to each other. Most except for his sister and Miskal.

"Greetings Baron Miskal," said Zagan. Only catching Miskal saying, "Why now?"

Still standing in the rolling waves Miskal was lost in his thoughts. His concerns. He had finally relented to his granddaughters wishes to live with he and the other vampires. There had been much protest among the family, especially those she had been living with. They knew of what had happened with the young womans parents. None had wanted that fate for Rochelle. Many saw her as the family's saving grace. Hearing his name called the baron turned slowly to face Zagan half way. His hand skimmed the top of the water as his body protested to the sudden movement. Despite his worrisome vision he appeared calm, and relaxed. When he saw the young that it was Zagan who called out to him he smiled and nodded his head in return. Wading through the water to reach the warm, sandy beach he held his arm out in welcome.

"Zagan my good man. What brings you to the shore this day?"

Miskal was fond of Zagan. As he was all his fellow vampires. But with him there was softer spot as they both shared in a similar pain. They had both lost their wife. It was a sad truth that many seemed to have their loved one. Although many seemed to find new mates as they lived an eternity, he, Zagan, Freya, and others had not taken to such commonality. It had built quite a respect with the baron that he had not so willingly gone out and replace his lovely wife with any run of the mill woman/vampire. He had honored her memory. Even still, something tugged at the edge of his mind about the baronesses brother that he had yet to resolve.
