~*~Essence~*~

A rose is a woody perennial of the genus Rosa, within the family Rosaceae. There are over 100 species. They form a group of plants that can be erect shrubs, climbing or trailing with stems that are often armed with sharp prickles. Flowers vary in size and shape and are usually large and showy, in colours ranging from white through yellows and reds. Most species are native to Asia, with smaller numbers native to Europe, North America, and northwest Africa. Species, cultivars and hybrids are all widely grown for their beauty and often are fragrant. Rose plants range in size from compact, miniature roses, to climbers that can reach 7 meters in height. Different species hybridize easily, and this has been used in the development of the wide range of garden roses.
The name rose comes from French, itself from Latin rosa, which was perhaps borrowed from Oscan, from Greek ρόδον rhodon (Aeolic βρόδον wrodon), related to Old Persian wrd-, Avestan varəda, Sogdian ward, Parthian wâr, Armenian vard.

The leaves are borne alternately on the stem. In most species they are 5 to 15 centimetres (2.0 to 5.9 in) long, pinnate, with (3–) 5–9 (–13) leaflets and basal stipules; the leaflets usually have a serrated margin, and often a few small prickles on the underside of the stem. Most roses are deciduous but a few (particularly from South east Asia) are evergreen or nearly so.

The hybrid garden rose "Amber Flush"
The flowers of most species have five petals, with the exception of Rosa sericea, which usually has only four. Each petal is divided into two distinct lobes and is usually white or pink, though in a few species yellow or red. Beneath the petals are five sepals (or in the case of some Rosa sericea, four). These may be long enough to be visible when viewed from above and appear as green points alternating with the rounded petals. There are multiple superior ovaries that develop into achenes.[4] Roses are insect-pollinated in nature.
The aggregate fruit of the rose is a berry-like structure called a rose hip. Many of the domestic cultivars do not produce hips, as the flowers are so tightly petalled that they do not provide access for pollination. The hips of most species are red, but a few (e.g. Rosa pimpinellifolia) have dark purple to black hips. Each hip comprises an outer fleshy layer, the hypanthium, which contains 5–160 "seeds" (technically dry single-seeded fruits called achenes) embedded in a matrix of fine, but stiff, hairs. Rose hips of some species, especially the Dog Rose (Rosa canina) and Rugosa Rose (Rosa rugosa), are very rich in vitamin C, among the richest sources of any plant. The hips are eaten by fruit-eating birds such as thrushes and waxwings, which then disperse the seeds in their droppings. Some birds, particularly finches, also eat the seeds.

Rose thorns are actually prickles - outgrowths of the epidermis.
While the sharp objects along a rose stem are commonly called "thorns", they are technically prickles — outgrowths of the epidermis (the outer layer of tissue of the stem). (True thorns, as produced by e.g. Citrus or Pyracantha, are modified stems, which always originate at a node and which have nodes and internodes along the length of the thorn itself.) Rose prickles are typically sickle-shaped hooks, which aid the rose in hanging onto other vegetation when growing over it. Some species such as Rosa rugosa and Rosa pimpinellifolia have densely packed straight prickles, probably an adaptation to reduce browsing by animals, but also possibly an adaptation to trap wind-blown sand and so reduce erosion and protect their roots (both of these species grow naturally on coastal sand dunes). Despite the presence of prickles, roses are frequently browsed by deer. A few species of roses have only vestigial prickles that have no points.

~*~ Sap: ( Blood of Flora)
Sap is a fluid transported in xylem cells (tracheids or vessel elements) or phloem sieve tube elements of a plant. The xylem cells transport water and nutrients throughout the plant.
Xylem sap consists primarily of water, with hormones, mineral elements and other nutrients dissolved in it. Transport of sap in xylem is characterized by movement from the roots toward the leaves. Over the past century, there has been some controversy regarding the mechanism of xylem sap transport; today, most plant scientists agree that the cohesion-tension theory best explains this process.[citation needed]
Phloem sap consists primarily of water, with sugars, hormones, and mineral elements dissolved in it. It flows from where carbohydrates are produced or stored to where they are used. The pressure flow hypothesis proposes a mechanism for phloem sap transport.

As intricate a rose is, with the many layers and colors that they come in, Florabella is no different. Her skin is green like the stem of a flower, her hair is long, wavy and deep red in color with roses of various sizes and styles are woven through her hair. A fragrant scent flows from her hair as she walks. The scent is that of roses, a pleasant smell of a natural perfume is wafted through the air when you pass her. The flowers in her hair change color and reflect how she is feeling. She wears Victorian style clothes, mostly in a dark green in color with vines and roses woven through the material and the vines act as laces on the corset she wears and her skirt is made up of leaves. She also wears braces that cover her lower arm and rose petals adorn her wrists like the base of sleeves. Boots made of thorns, stems and roots cover her feet. Her eyes are green but lighter than her skin tone. Flora is tall, about 5'10 in height and slender with an athletic build. Leaf like wings protrude from her back but don't really do anything. they are just leaves after all. The intricacy and layers come in with her personality.

Personality: Flora is a kind and sensitive person, she is hurt easily, so one must be careful with their words. Her mother is one that has caused her to cry when she is disciplined for her honesty, bluntness and thorniness. Flora has come to understand that her mother Eva would never purposely cause her to cry or hurt her in any way. She is very friendly but knows better than to trust someone right away. One has to earn her trust to be considered worthy of being her true friend. To earn her trust, one must except her, never judge too quickly and on her faults alone, try to understand her and most of all accept her for who she is. Also don't offend her or be quick to dismiss her. Eva is one of a few people that Flora has come to trust, although it took some time. Flora's honest and loyal, she will be the best friend you could ever have and all you have to do is be kind to her in return. She is honest but to a fault and can come off cocky at times. She refuses to lie, to spare feelings, but she will always be loyal to those she call friend. If you anger her though, I suggest you watch out because she will defend her friends and her pride. If you cross her or disrespect her in any way, Flora will hold a grudge until the matter is settled properly. Like a rose her personality is thorny and she may be happy one moment and angry the next. Eva, her guardian, will not stand for her thorniness and anger when it is directed towards Eva. Her Honesty and bluntness has gotten her in trouble a few times and not just with Eva, but with those that have come through Eva's shop. Flora has learned to a degree that sometimes it's just better to remain silent, like her mother has told her many times over.

Likes: Water, Sunlight, soil, rain, forest, other plants.

Dislikes: Fire, extreme heat, cold,

Hobbies: Gardening, Reading, Playing in the rain, Spending time alone in a forest or wooded area.

Anything Else:The bottle could be found in the forest or the garden or shop of Eva (her guardian) The bottle is a rosy pink with a green cork, thorny vines wrapped around the bottle with a single red rose inside. (hope that's okay to describe the look of the bottle as well.)

History: Born in the floating city to a fisherman and his wife, a shop keeper, she was raised in a small quaint country style home. She spent a lot of time in her mothers shop, which was a general store and sold many different items. She didn't have the easiest time growing up but her parents tried to give her the best they could. Even thought it cost a lot, they sent her away to Faleen to go to school when she was five as they wanted her to have a better life and education than they did. They had saved up the money from a time before she was born for her parents knew that they wanted their child to do well in life and have a better education. Her father is a very successful fisherman and her mother's shop, being one of a select few of general stores, was doing well as well and brought in quite a bit of money.

In Faleen, Eva was set up in an all girls boarding school. She really didn't want to go but wasn't left with much choice. Her parents and paid hard earned money for her to be well educated and left with a bag of clothes and a few possessions. Once at her new home she stayed mostly to herself, concentrating on her classes and studying. She played outside when she was allowed or when she had free time but even then she played by herself. She found it very hard to make friends and felt she was better off without them.

Over the years she discovered her love of reading and spent a lot of time in the library. by this time she had a few friends and they were just like her. She studied with them and they were even roommates so Eva didn't have to put up with someone who was noisy and prevented her from her studies. She wrote to her parents on a weekly basis. She received gifts on her birthday from them and she waited for the day she would be allowed to see them again.

The years that followed passed quickly and she picked up gardening as a hobby along with reading about botany and flowers of all kinds. She started a garden club when she was in high school and had garden parties on the weekends. Only those she deemed worthy were invited to the party. Her Garden parties consisted of tea, finger sandwiches and talking. It was just a little get together with her friends and those she chose to invite from the club and school.

On graduation day, Eva was so happy to finally be done with school and head home. She made her way to the auditorium where she received her diploma and finally got to see her parents again. It was a very happy reunion and they were proud of her. The three of them returned to the floating city and she attended a local college and majored in Botany. She helped around her mothers shop when she had no classes and finished her class work.

When she finished school she left the floating city for the main city. She heard that there was a nice house for sale and her parents helped her buy it and the shop she wished to own. Eva had saved money while she worked in her mothers shop for the house and the store. Her parents had fronted the rest of the money to her from their savings and Eva promised to pay them back over time as she earned money. The shop was in the center of the city while her home was quite a distance from the city in a quiet, remote area. It was just what she wanted. Now Eva has her flower shop and her own home. She has everything she's ever wanted up to this point in her life. A relationship is not something she seeks right now, but maybe one day. Eva is currently paying her parents back over time and she still has enough to support herself, Flora and pay the staff the work at her house.

The Semblance of Unity
Beautiful in itself is a very vague word. Does Florabella's beauty stem (ahahah pun) from her having large eyes, symmetrical features? What is beautiful to you, as it is different for each person.

For the vines on her clothing: does Flora have control over the vines or produce them or does she have to gather them in the garden each morn? If she has control over vines, it is just rose vines? How much does that power extend?

Her parents were fishermen, were they really successful or good savers? The money to send a child to faleen and buy her a shop might be something to consider.

How does Eva react to Flora's thornier side? You said she's good-natured, but can she be stern if need be?

uhhh I think that's it. lol sweatdrop I'm not wonderful at critiques.
Traits to consider:
power over vines/plants
does she smell like roses
plant sap blood

~*~Questions~*~
Q:How someone can earn Flora's trust?
A:To earn Flora's trust all one really has to do is get to know her, talk to her, don't judge her too quickly, try to understand her and most of all accept her for who she is. Also don't offend her or be quick to dismiss her. Flora's honest and loyal, she will be the best friend you could ever have and all you have to do is be kind to her in return.

Q:How does Eva handle Flora's blunt honesty, especially with owning a shop? (ie, Flora making comments to customers and such)
A:Eva gets cross with Flora when she crosses a line of sorts. Like disrespecting customers and has had to put the girl in line at times. Other times Eva can't help but laugh under her breath at some of the things that Flora says cause they are the truth and Eva don't have the heart to say it but she still lets Flora know that there is a time and place for honesty and uses the age old phrase, "If you got nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all". But over all out of the shop Eva takes Flora's bluntness with a grain of salt. As for others, i can't say how they will react.

Thank so much I will edit and add in those points.
Eva's parents are/were very successful as fishermen and shop owner. I was aware that it might cost a lot to send her off to school and buy her home and shop.

Eva can be stern when needed and when it comes Flora's thornier side, Eva reminds flora that she is her mother and that, that type of attitude is not acceptable to have towards her, but for the most part Eve understands but does not condone it in her home. Flora can control vines. it's not limited to just rose but it is easier to control rose vines than any other plant vine. It is a offensive attack power for her (hope anyway... will also edit respective posts with this info.)

Hmmm, I don't see much to pick on, but one thing I wonder is how someone can earn Flora's trust.

Also, how does Eva handle Flora's blunt honesty, especially with owning a shop? (ie, Flora making comments to customers and such)
