It reminds me of jeet kune do philosophies, because you need to strike fast and effectively, but it also reminds me of grace, like he could defeat any opponent easily so to preserve his skill he needs to be graceful, rather than showing off power, like he could defeat an opponent as fast as a snake bite, drawing his katana from its sheath, shooting forward without losing his balance, and placing his katana back in its sheath. It also shows he is reserved, sword isnt at the ready, hands folded, relaxed, not arrogant, but also ready like a shaolin monk, aware, undisturbed with focus.
Such a simple avi, with just a few items, no need to obsess over grand items when something so simple pleases. Its nice, I like it lol.

Figures. But for example, you could see an avatar as a medium of expression, or you could see it as aesthetically apealing.
