User Image "What have I done...?"

The stallion shook out his mane, walking slowly toward the last place he had left Belinda. It had been months since he had seen her last; frightened by a surge of emotions and the act he had preformed, he fled. But being back home with his family made him believe that she would have done the same... Except for the knowledge that she had never mentioned any family to him so he thought her to not have any. Breathing out a sight in the somewhat crisp afternoon, Quetzalcoatl lifted his eyes toward the sky and mumbled a small "God help me.." before continuing down the path toward where he saw her residing when he left.

Turning around a tree bend, Quetzalcoatl peered around. He could make out the soft pinks in her pelt from here. Nerves started to strike through every vein he had. He took a deep breath, before moving forward, his hooves touching the ground almost in a rythmn. Honestly, he was scared. He had seen the many pregnant mares wandering around outside the herd; hell, even inside! And if that meant that many people were having children... well... What if he had... Shaking his mane, Quetzalcoatl stopped his walking and gave a stubborn snort. There was no way. He hadn't gotten her pregnant.

Moving forward once more, he half trotted toward her camp. His eyes were determined as he paused, and moved into a more so sneak walk. Walking around the tree, he glanced toward her and stared, before letting out a sigh and dropped his head. "Hello, Belinda.." He half mumbled.

Crap... Kids... He wasn't ready to be a father... He wouldn't be a good father by any means. And it was his responsibility, for sure, now. Lifting his head slowly, he peered toward her, and let a somewhat half smile flicker onto his usually serious or unemotional face. Better not frighten her, at least.

Belinda had woken early that morning, unsurprisingly as the ungainly bulk of her stomach made it extremely difficult for her to remain comfortable for any significant amount of time. Perhaps some mares were uniquely suited for the task of bringing new life into this world, Belinda was uniquely not. In neither of her experiences had she found pregnancy to be the magical experience she had heard the other, often giddy, mares her age chattering about to their friends, it was uncomfortable, and exhausting, and hard. Despite having woken up nearly an hour earlier, Belinda had remained nestled in her warm sleeping area, her eyes half closed as she listened to the sound of water rushing over gravel in the small clear stream that ran through the center of the grove, the rushing sigh of the wind between the branches, and the cheery trills of the songbirds as they greeted their fellows. The warm sun filtered down through the leaves to bathe everything in a warm greenish glow that she found very relaxing.

Belinda tried to avoid thinking of what would happen when these children were born, she had been hurt if not entirely surprised by Quetzalcoatl's sudden disappearance so soon after their tryst. She hadn't bothered tracking him down to advise him of their forthcoming blessings. They had talked little that fateful night, so caught up in the heat and emotions brought on by the twisted tunnel, but from what little she had garnered, he was not the sociable type. It had taken her the better part of her pregnancy to even admit to herself that she was once again caught up in that same situation as the last time, hadn't she learned her lesson? It wasn't until her middle had swelled to disproportional levels and she felt those tiny legs prodding gently into her soft insides that she ceased her senseless denial and began preparing herself for the birth of her second batch of children.

It had been inordinately difficult, moving any large distance was exhausting, but she managed to gather enough materials to prepare the small sheltered corner of her grotto that would serve as her temporary nursery. Hopefully these children would not be as difficult to keep an eye on as her son Florian, a shard of pain twisted in her heart and her mind skipped away from those depressing thoughts as with a weary sigh she dragged herself to her feet and proceeded towards the stream at a stately waddle for a drink. Belinda had just bent down and taken her first mouthful of the cool crisp water when a familiar voice made her choke and sputter on it, whirling around to gaze with slightly wild eyes at the very last person she had expected to ever encounter again.

"H-Hello Quetz" she coughed and felt a rosy glow rise to her cheeks as his eyes focused with embarrassing intensity and what she could only assume was horror, on the inescapable truth of her pregnancy."Its been a while"

She was huge... But not in a bad way. Quetzalcoatl had never thought he would see Belinda like this. Pregnant... And he had a feeling that it was just with him... That they were going to be his children. He took a deep breath, before closing his eyes, and tried to keep his mind from going nuts. Shifting slowly, Quetzalcoatl moved forward and stood near her, not close enough to touch, but still... near. He eyed her carefully, before taking yet another deep breath. He didn't know what to do. He didn't know what he could do, honestly. He was usually very nervous around females in general, but the fact that she was with child... and with his child...

"... Are... you...?" Open ended question, of course. Quetzalcoatl knew that it was; but he wasn't going to finish it. He knew the answer. He knew it all too well. Shaking his head slowly, he lowered his eyes, before biting down on his lower lip. What was he going to do. What could he do... He moved forward slowly and walked around her slightly, before sighing. He had to take control of this. It was his doing; his responsibility. And he couldn't just leave her now... couldn't just let her be alone.

Stepping beside her, Quetzalcoatl pressed his nose gently to Belinda's hair, breathing in the now somewhat familiar smell. Closing his eyes, he tried to calm himself down. He ensured that no matter what he did, he didn't let her see him this upset. He had to show her that he was strong, and would help her; not that he was scared and didn't know what the hell to do. So, putting a small, very timid smile on his features, Quetzalcoatl nudged her gently. "Come.... Come home with me... to my herd.." He blurted it out before he could think, before he could monitor his voice. Staring toward her, he waited, his heart now in his throat.

What if she said no...

"Yes." Belinda replied simply, her heart fluttering desperately within her chest as the stallion approached her. Quetz's expression was unreadable and she felt on the verge of panicked flight, trembling all over as he pressed his nose into her hair. She closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths to calm down, allowing herself to simply enjoy the comfort of his closeness. He had left almost immediately after their night together... But could she really blame him? There had been so many confusing and unfamiliar emotions that night, she had been just as embarrassed when she woke up next to an almost perfect stranger, and a small part of her had been glad that he had fled before they were forced into having any awkward conversations. Neither of them could have predicted the result of their mutual passions, he had no way of knowing about her condition, and she certainty hadn't gone out of her way to inform him.

Belinda was stunned into silence at his sudden outburst, she stared at him a few moments, her mind racing as she tried to sort through the implications. "I didn't know you had a herd." She murmured as her eyes swept across the almost familiar lines of his features. "Is that where you went... after...?" She trailed off with a blush.

Turning away from him, she began to pace back and forth, lacy wings fluttering in time with her rhythmic hoof beats with her face scrunched up in thought. Raising their children together, within a herd, she wouldn't have to try and do it all on her own this time, she would know they were safe and loved. Still, they knew next to nothing about each other, could she trust him? He had already left once. She glanced over at him from beneath lowered lashes and finally stopped. She would do what was right for her children, if he asked her to leave once they were grown, so be it. At least they would have a place to call home, a place and a family to belong to. "We could try." She finally agreed in a small voice. "What is it like there?"

Quetzalcoatl still was shocked he had said such a thing. He could remember the stories his mother told him about how herself and Adom met; how they became lovers, and it took her getting pregnant to admit to it. And all that fluffy jazz. But he wasn't aware that he would be in the same boat... sort of. It was true. While he was gone from her, Quetzalcoatl had thought of Belinda often; dreamed of her. He had ignored the impulses and feelings, the thoughts. Who could love an outcast, right? And though he wasn't sure she loved him, or that he loved her, he was sure that there was something inside him that just... craved to be around her. So, when he heard the rumors of all the pregnant mares going around, he had to go find her. To see if it was true.. If he was to be a father.

And her confirmation, in one short word, sent his mind in a spiral. Him. A dad. Quetzalcoatl shook his head slightly as he tried to wrap his brain around it. Was he ready for such a commitment? He took a deep breath, and waited patiently for her to answer his outburst. He was still shocked he said it. His eyes flickered down to his hooves, before back up toward her, watching her with an intense gaze. And when she said they could try, he swore his heart leaped up into his throat, and he had to swallow it back down. She was going to come with him... To his herd. She was really going to. And though that meant introducing her to his dysfunctional family ( even though they were probably one of the best in the lands ), he figured he could do it easily.

"What is it like?" He repeated slowly. Quetzalcoatl repeated, his eyes flickering down for a moment. He wasn't sure how to really explain it. Sighing, he nudged her gently, before starting forward, leading the way of sorts, his tail giving a small flick as he moved. "Uh... It's... safe, at least. I've never been harmed there. And I have a um... big... family. If that matters. God I hope not." He said, voice kind of drifting off into a soft mumble as he moved. He sighed, stopping to peer over his shoulder to ensure she was following him.

A ripple of laughter escaped her throat as she followed him, sparing only a single, slightly regretful glance at the grotto which had been her home since her son had disappeared. Florian had been gone far too long, he wasn't coming back to this place. It was time to try and move forward with her life for the sake of the new little ones who would soon be entering the world. She wouldn't even think of the other, the one who she had left with Conri, the old guilt was simply a load she would have to bear until she could find a way to put everything to rights. She was looking foreword to having people around to help care for their foals, it was probably only her imagination, but at times she would've sworn there were more than four pairs of hooves shifting around in there. The thought made her tremble a little, she wouldn't bring it up to Quetz, he was still new to the idea of fatherhood, and she feared if she piled too much onto him at once, she would frighten him off again. It would take time for her to learn to trust him, but perhaps now they would have the luxury of that time. The walk was pure misery but she gritted her teeth and bore it. "So, you say the herd is safe, that's good..." She trailed off a bit awkwardly, searching for words to fill the silence as they walked and distract her from the discomfort, "Is it very far? Do you have a job within the herd?"

She was nervous. Scared.

He could tell.

Quetzalcoatl blinked, shifting slightly as he tried to think of what he could do to comfort her. Frowning lightly, the stallion dipped his head down a bit as he walked forward with quiet steps. He was allowing her to adjust, but he was panicking at the same time. What would he tell his mother? Oh god, his mother. He grimaced. She wouldn’t be pleased by his actions. She was a helpless romantic, and he knew that easily. She was the type who always thought that, despite how Quetzalcoatl acted, he would be the hero and save the mare that he would fall in love with. That he would be a knight in shining hooves, and no one could ever stop him from saving those around him. But, that wasn’t who he was. No, he was a stallion who actually hurt the mare that he got pregnant, and now she was…

No, he couldn’t think like that. Quetzalcoatl shook his head, before he tilted his head to the side and let his eyes linger at the ground. He honestly wasn’t sure what he was going to say to her. She seemed more nervous than anything. He let his eyes flicker back toward the mare, watching her for a few seconds, before he faced forward again. She was going to miss her home… Maybe he could find a way to make a home like that within the herd, somewhere for her to be comfortable. Shaking his head once more, he breathed out a sigh and moved forward and toward the mountain pass.

”I may be a day or two trip… maybe longer. I imagine we’ll go slower and more carefully since you’re…” He paused, staring at the ground as he walked, uncertain what to really say. He felt his chest tighten. She was pregnant. How was it that hard to say it? How? He frowned and closed his eyes, breathing in deeply before he lifted his eyes and walked with a more confident stride. ”Since you’re pregnant. We’ll take it easy so you don’t have to strain yourself.” He said, nodding his head curtly. He was nervous as well, and it made him feel sick to his stomach. He never expected to have this happen so soon in his life, and it was honestly scaring him more than he would admit.

At the question of him having a job, he frowned, and shook his head slowly. ”No. I don’t. Most of the Usdia’s in the herd don’t; there are a lot of regular sized horses there… So, it’s hard for us smaller species to actually have jobs. My mother tends to watch foals and baskets though, so she has one. But… I see no reason. Though I’ve debated on going out to help and collect food.” He murmured, before pausing to watch her and allow her to catch up and rest.
