The blue haired man walked down the path towards a larger home. His grey eyes looked down at the address written neatly on a small piece of paper. He was dressed sharply but had the air of an instructor around him. In fact he was an instructor who had been hired to teach the young lady of the house. Odell Barnes, a resident concert violinist, took tutoring jobs on the side to supplement his usual income.

Normally he taught in the studio underneth his appartment, as most of his clients were less affluent members of the community who desired that their children have some musical training. Rarely did he take private clients as they required more attention than he was willing to give. But the man who had requested his services seemed so in need of an instructor he couldn't say no. However given his attitude Odell figured the young lady was a bit....spoiled.

He sighed softly and looked down at the violin case he was carrying. In fact he was carrying two of them. One was his own well cared for and lovingly tuned instrument while the other was one he used for students. He couldn't assume the girl had her own and he would not allow her to use his. But he would put up with no nonsense from the girl. If she did not follow his teaching then he would not teach her.

Then again each student was different. He had to observe the child first before deciding if they really had the skill and ability to learn the violin. Several had been difficult but eventually they found their rhythm and were playing with great skill. Not all learned to become musicians, some learned merely for the joy of creating music; others learned to hone their concentration skills and persistance. He wondered what this girl would be like.

He knocked on the door and waited.

There was a long moment of waiting before Odell would be able to hear the sound of approaching footsteps, followed by the door being unlocked and a latch being pulled back. The door creaked open to reveal a tired looking man; the welcoming smile he offered Odell at least managing to brighten his features a little. “Mr. Barnes?” He inquired in a soft voice, stepping back to allow his guest in. “Thank you for coming.”

He beckoned Odell inside with a wave of his hand and then shut the door, latching it shut. “I’m Alexander Merry. Anise’s father.” After a moment, he held out his hand to shake. The gardener was nervous about how the next hour or so would go. Anise had not been pleased by his suggestion in the slightest. She had become wary of strangers and the thought of allowing anyone she didn’t know into her house had her in a foul mood.

But this was necessary. Alexander wouldn’t allow her to lock herself away forever. “Anise is in the parlour. I’ll show you the way.”

Odell half wondered if he had the correct address when he finally heard footsteps approaching the door. The man who answered looked much like the other parents that enrolled their chilren in his tutoring. A man of the earth from the look of his finger nails, not someone of great influence but did have a love for his child. "Yes, Odell Barnes. A pleasure sir," he spoke as he walked in and shook the man's hand.

The man spoke of his daughter in a loving tone but one that also suggested she tried his patience or at least his sanity. Most children did if they were head strong. Strangely Odell found the most head strong children tended to be the better players. He wondered how this young girl would act.

Normally he functioned quite well with females. Most found him attractive, sadly for them they were not his preference. Most longed for him, even sent him flowers or party invitations. Most he turned down, doing his best to be polite and curtious. "Tell me a bit about your daughter. Does she have an ear for music?"

“Ah…” Alexander looked a little worried by the question, his hand rising to rub the back of his neck. “Not quite.” He smiled apologetically. “You see, this was my idea. Anise doesn’t get out very often and she gets bored at home, so I thought it would be nice for her to learn something, in fact, anything. One of my clients mentioned you…” He trailed off for a moment. “Anise is a good girl, but she’s very… demanding. I ask you to go into this with an open mind. Don’t give up on her too easily.”

With that said he led the way into the parlour; it was a large room, furnished with a number of bookcases, a fireplace, heavy curtains and, in the centre, two faded divans and a coffee table. The little girl currently seated primly on one of the divans did not look pleased. Her back was ramrod straight and her red eyes narrowed. In her hands she held a porcelain tea cup; steams rising up from the hot liquid within.

Her surroundings were old and faded, but she sat amongst it like a queen in her throne room. Lips pressed into a thin line, she stared at Odell.

“Anise, this Mr. Barnes. Your new violin teacher.” Alexander introduced Odell, giving Anise a broad smile that he hoped she would imitate.

If anything, she looked more annoyed than before.

Well this sounded promising. The young lady sounded a bit spoiled and obviously dominated her father if she did not get out much. Upon seeing the girl his suspictions were confirmed; definately spoiled. The little queen on her throne with her father at her beck and call. But he did hire him which suggested he had some sort of backbone even if his daughter hardly looked amused. Hmm, red eyes. He wondered if the girl was anything like Samara.

He walked over to the girl, keeping a proper distance. He placed both cases down and removed his coat, hanging it over his arm. Odell approached the annoyed looking girl and gave her a polite bow, "Madam Anise, a pleasure to make your aquaintance. As your father has said I have been hired to instruct you in the art of music. May I sit down for a moment?"

He motioned to the other divan. Upon her answer he either sat or stayed standing. But he still wished to speak with her first. Getting to know his students, even in the most minor of ways, always helped decide his course of training. All students were differnet and required their own training plan. "I take it you are not thrilled with the idea of my instruction but I give you my word I will give you all my attention whilst I am your instructor. I believe you to be a proper young lady and learning this musical talent is healthy for a young lady's mind."

At least he had manners. Anise watched Odell, sitting unnaturally still until she finally raised a hand to give an imperious wave. “You may sit.” The girl certainly did not give off the best first impression, but Alexander could see past the cold exterior and he walked around the back of her seat, casually placing a hand on her should. Anise’s eyes closed for a brief moment at the touch before she opened them once more to face Odell; her new teacher.

“This was not my choice.” She began explaining, speaking in a manner far beyond her young age. “But Alexander believes this is the best for me and I will trust his judgment.” A spider escaped from her dress and she shooed it back into her skirts before it got too far. “I think we will get along Mr. Barnes.”

It would take time for her to trust him, but Odell has managed to get past some of her reservations already. A bit of respect went a long way.

"Thank you, madam," he nodded politely and took a seat. After he had spoken he listened to the girl's words, doing his best to not even blink at the spider. At least the place wasn't dirty, spiders he could deal with. Once she had spoken he nodded.

"I believe you may enjoy the challenge and music is an excellent form of expression that does not require words or even the presence of others. It can merely be a conversation between a person and their inner most thoughts," he spoke with a polite yet firm tone. This would be a challenge as he suspected she might balk at real hard nosed instruction. "I am glad you think we shall come to an accord."

He picked up one of the violin cases and placed it infront of him, within the girl's reach. "I did not want to be impolite and assume you had an instrument so I brought one I use for instruction. I hope I am not imposing by offering. I can begin today with a simple lesson that does not require any actually playing. Merely instruction on the instrument and it's abilities in music making."

The man waited for the girl's answer, wondering how this student would progress. If she took to the challenge she would be a fervant student, demanding to do more complicated pieces well before she was ready. At least so he believed. He could only infer her abilites and personality as he worked with her.

Anise listened and when he looked her in question, waiting for her reaction to the proposed instructions, she gave a wave of her hand, silently indicating for him to continue. She shifted forward, body leaning towards her teacher and the instrument that had been placed before her. The Dust did not reach out to touch it, not yet, for now she merely watched.

Alexander looked relieved from where he stood behind Anise. Everything was going well. “Would you care for a drink, Mr. Barnes?” He offered before Odell could launch into his lesson. “Tea perhaps…”

Anise blinked her big red eyes. “Ah…” She sighed out. “I am remiss. Do you care to join me for tea? Or can Alexander get you some other refreshment? I believe he has recently acquired a fresh bottle of apple juice.
