It had all happened so fast.
Trick or Treat had started off fairly calm, but with the influx of children in the neighborhoods the young child found herself swept up in the chaos. She had latched onto a group of kids that she'd become fast friends with, moving on from house to house at the speed of light. Somehow she had managed to a strange part of town, where everything was darker and grittier than ever before.
She didn't realize anything was wrong until light turned to dark and cars filled with laughing children vanished. All night she'd looked for her mother, crying out and trying to get attention from someone; anyone.
After two days had passed Constance wasn't sure what to do. She'd eaten through her candy, and managed to find a warm place to stay behind the heating unit of a building, but where would she go?

Mama had said not to go alone. Gemi had said not to go alone. She wasn't having any of that though! So, while the teens were off at school and mama was busy with Branka, Ourania packed a bag with a loaf of bread, a package of ham, some cheese, a bag of potato chips, and a bottle of Coca-Cola. Constance had apparently been missing for two days now, so she'll surely be hungry!
She snuck out the front door, not looking back as she set off with a determined stride. She was going to find Constance herself! She had no idea where to start, where to begin looking, but she didn't let that scare her! Grasping the scarf that Constance had made for her, she turned toward town, where she herself had gone trick-or-treating days ago.

Constance pulled up the stained coat she had found, it's edges trailing around the skirt of her dirty skirt. Her costume was ripped in places, smudged with oil and filth. Not that it mattered to her. Since it was light out, she was walking the city looking for someone she knew. Every time she saw a stranger, though, she would hide her face or duck in an alleyway until they passed, which was a lot.
Then she smelled it. It was the most glorious, tempting, awesome smell ever. It reminded her of the treats she had at Charis' tea party, and the very thought made her hopeful. Looking out into the street, she deemed it safe enough to run out towards the scent. What she found was a busy coffee shop, and not even the smell of food could make her go in. But on that bench, there was a bag of something....
Constance snuck over, being as quiet as she could, licking her lips and reaching out...."Hey, that's mine!" One of the patrons inside came out with a cup of coffee in his hands. She squealed, snatched up the bag and ran like her life depended on it.

Quite determined to find her fellow dream, she approached every person she passed, asking if they'd seen Constance, showing her picture everywhere. After trudging around for nearly an hour, she began to feel disheartened. She was moving so slow. ...Maybe she should only ask every other person?
Then, finally, a hint! She came across a grumpy looking fellow, and held the picture out to him.
"Yeah, I've seen that little rat. She stole my food just few minutes ago," he grumbled, pointing his thumb over his shoulder.
Ourania shook her head. "No rat. Teddy bear!" Hope was rekindled, and she was barely done correcting the cranky patron before scurrying around him and running down the sidewalk, hollering Constance's name as she went. She'd found the trail!!

Constance meandered around until she felt safe enough to open the package. Raisin bagels, gross! Still, it was warm, and even though she her frown was enough to rip the world, she tried to eat it.
It was so bad she started to hear her name. That was bad, right? Maybe it was spoiled or something. But should the voice be that loud then? Or sound like...."Ourania!" Constance dropped the bagel and ran back out into the street.
She frantically pushed past the working class, calling out her friends name.

She was so busy running and yelling at the same time that she almost didn't hear the voice calling her own name! She froze in her tracks when it registered, little gray ears twitching back and forth. Was that..? It was!
With a high pitched squeal of excitement, she took off again. She kept calling out, darting around the passerby and ignoring the scoldings and warnings shot at her as she bumped into them. The closer Constance's voice came, the faster she ran. This, of course, resulted in an unfortunate collision with another child, slightly larger than herself. They fell in a tangle of limbs, rolling along from Ourania's momentum, both getting quite scraped up.
Suddenly, her imagination kicked in, and she looked down at the boy in shock. He'd blocked her on purpose! He was trying to keep her from finding Constance!! Even though the innocent kid was already seeing stars right at the moment, Ourania growled again and bopped her palm against the top of his head, jumping up and trying to get away. The boy's arm had gotten caught in the straps of her backpack though, and the sudden halt made her fall back onto her butt, which only made her scream all the louder. He was trying to take her, too! She was making quite the scene...

Constance took a flying leap over a small dog, and dodged a spray of hot coffee in the process. What she saw next scared her as much as being lost. Ourania was being attacked! She had managed to fend him off, but as Constance started to run again she could see him reach for her once again. That devil!
She growled. No way was he going to steal Ourania! With a mighty squeaky roar, she launched herself onto the poor boy and bit his ear. When he screamed and tried to push her off, she just slapped his hands away, making motions for Ourania to leave.
"Leave him alone, you little rat!" Oh no! Coffee woman was upset and marching over with a purposeful stride. Constance just glared at her and growled.

Scrambling, flailing limbs flew about as Ourania tried to free herself from her attacker. Her little ears perked as she heard the squeaky roar, her eyes widening in surprise. "Constance!" she shrieked, jumping up as her backpack was finally freed. Constance was so brave!
Looking over at the scowling woman, she yelped and grabbed Constance's arm. "More guards!" She tugged hard, trying to pull her friend away. She couldn't lose Constance after finally finding her!

Constance nipped the boy's ear once more, and gave it a sharp tug before jumping off him. Coffee lady was really mad now! Something about her baby, and po-leece. That couldn't be good!
"Let's beat it!" She took off at a dead run, slipping her hand around to grab Ourania's. "Quick, quick!" Her ratty skirt flapped against her stout legs. They had to get out of there, fast!
The first alley she saw, Constance ducked into it, and pulled Ourania in with her. Her heavy breathing was only accompanied by the wide eyed looks she kept giving when she peeped around the corner onto he street. Yep, all clear!

Gasping hard from excitement, she raced along with Constance, holding tight to her friend's hand. She could hear the woman still yelling, and kicked her little legs even harder against the pavement. They had to escape!
Darting around the corner with Constance, she pressed against the wall as the little bear peeked out. Her own ears were perked high, listening hard. She couldn't hear anyone now...
Letting out a relieved sigh, she turned and hugged tight to her friend. "Mama said you was lost!" she said with a small whine. "They couldna' find you.. No one hurt you, right?"

They were safe! Good, because Constance didn't think she could handle anymore running. Her stomach was already tied up in knots after burning off what little calories she'd managed to nab.
When Ourania turned to hug her, she gave the kitten a bear hug. She'd missed hugs the most! And Ourania and Mama were close seconds. "No, I'm okay, just really hungry." She pouted, burrowing her face into her friends shoulder. Now that she was safe, finally safe, she couldn't helping tearing up a little. "I kept trying to find them, honest, I just...I just...couldn't! I was so scared!"

Feeling the hug returned, Ourania felt the relief radiate through her. Constance was safe! "Oh! I have food!" Breaking the hug, she grabbed Constance's hand again and pulled her along down the alley. "We gotta find someplace safer ta eat. Got stuff for ham sammiches!"
