Full Name: Rin Ichimaru
Nickname: Third
Age: 11¾ (will turn 12 not too far into the RP)
Appears to be: between 9 and 12
Squad: 3
Position: Probationary 3rd seat
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Has no sexual interest
Height: 3ft 4in
Weight: 75lb
Appearance: Rin maintains a childish appearance (well he is still technically a child) he is very short for his age
Personality: the Rin everyone sees is much like his father, always smiling always mocking, up to mischief, always hiding something. The Rin that not so many people see is more like his mother, kind at heart, lively and willing to explore new things. Manipulative to a certain point, whereas Rangiku would use her appearance a form of sex appeal to sucker others and get her way, Rin would use his childish/sweet and innocent appearance to get his way or to get away from penalties for breaking the rules.
The Rin that people tend to see works hard when it comes to training and sparring for reasons unknown, usually assumed as childish competition to keep up with adults.
And lastly… the Rin that is rarely seen, behind the smile, behind the cute face, the driving force behind striving for strength… the Rin that isn’t so often seen is someone who cries more often than smiles. Despite showing so many of his parent’s traits, there is a whole different side of Rin which isn’t seen by many… if anyone at all. As far as he knew his parents were just orphaned kids in Rukongai who became friends and eventually shinigami. They were strong like that, they could live happy lives even though they lacked a family. Rin wasn’t like that at all. Loosing people he loved wasn’t something he had the strength to recover from. His mischief keeps him busy, keeps his mind off his losses, getting scolded and mocking the ones doing so served the same purpose as did constant training. Behind the façade Rin was always hurting and always trying to hide it. Behind his drive for strength was not truly a competition to surpass those elder to him (which is practically everyone) no he didn’t care much about that. The real Rin wanted to be strong enough to do something, to make enough of a difference offset fate… the Real Rin simply wants to have the power to never lose anyone again, never face the pain of loss.
Personal Skill: Fighting wise Rin has to primary skills of note, his Canon Kick is one he is notorious for, the title explains itself. Then there is the ability to forge small wormholes and rifts in space, a skill that must be used sparingly due to all the energy put forth in making them.
Outside of battle Rin has mad skills with poker and pool. He is also good at baking…
Favorite Food: Persimmons of course, Rin also likes lemon filled pastries, and hot soba noodles
Favorite Drink: Pineapple juice, lemonade, and pomegranate wine (apparently no one told him to stay away from strong drinks)
Least Favorite Food: raw vegetables (or vegetables in general)
Likes: Rin enjoys persimmons, sweets, sunny days, taking care of the persimmon Orchard, playing pranks on people, being praised for his improvement, and showing up people of higher rank.
Dislikes: Rin can’t stand raw vegetables well most of them. He doesn’t like being treated like a baby by the other squad members, or anyone for that matter, and he strongly dislikes thunderstorms… they scare him
Hates: Rin despises the sight of a lot of blood on allies, it reminds him of a murder which he can never forget

Kidou
Bakudou:
1. Sai (塞, Restrain)
Locks a target's arms in place behind their back.
4. Hainawa (這縄, Crawling Rope)
An energy rope entangles the target's arms.
8. Seki (斥, Repulse)
Creates a round shield that seems to temporarily paralyze and repel whatever strikes it.
Hadou:
1. Shō (衝, Thrust)
Pushes the target away from the caster.
4. Byakurai (白雷, Pale Lightning)
The user fires a concentrated, powerful lightning bolt from their finger.
11. Tsuzuri Raiden (製本電, Bound Lightning)
Electric current flows through any object the user touches and is able to lead electricity, damaging any target that is in contact with the object the current runs through.
31. Shakkahō (赤火砲, Red Fire Cannon)
Fires a ball of red energy at a target.
33. Sōkatsui (蒼火墜, Blue Fire, Crash Down)
Fires a burst of blue spiritual energy at a target in a similar manner to #31, but over a wider area and with more power.
54. Haien (廃炎, Abolishing Flames)
Fires a blast of purple spiritual energy that will incinerate a target completely when it makes contact.
Techniques:
Shunpo (Flash Step)
A movement technique that allows the user to move faster than the eye can follow. The user forces a stream of energy in front of them, along a path of their choosing, then takes one step into the stream. They are then propelled exceptionally fast through the stream to reappear at the opposite side. Whilst in the stream it is very hard to spot the user's movements unless you are an equal or higher rank.
Air Walk *Still a rookie in this area
The ability to walk on air using spiritual energy. By collecting and solidifying Spiritual Particles beneath their feet, Soul Reapers can gain traction on thin air to either freely move about or to stop themselves from falling.
Idou Senkou (Flash Movement)
This technique is actually quite simple for those who have conditioned their body for high-speed combat movements and have a decent level of control over their Reiatsu. Idou Senkou is a technique that can be used by channeling your Reiatsu through a specific part of the body to increase the muscular reaction impulses so that the user may move that part of the body at speeds that rival Shunpo (Flash Step).
Motto: “Life is kinda like a game of cards… even if you start out with a bad hand you can still come on top if you play wisely… and remember… a good poker player always keeps face”
Battle Strength:
• Rin has mastered most of his hakuda techniques… except for Air Walk… he favors the ground
• Rin has is capable of many Hoho techniques, though has yet to reach mastery
Battle Weakness:
• Rin doesn’t have a long range of endurance, he tires quicker the longer the fight rages on
• Rin is small size does have an effect in fighting belive it or not, especially when your opponent could be the size of a house
• Rin is rash he will rush into things without thinking them through

Family: Father Gin Ichimaru *deceased
Mother Rangiku Matsumoto *deceased
Brother (figure) Hex *deceased
Background History:
-Birth/Early Life-
Rin was born in East Rukongai… it was one of those rare cases which the mother showed no sign of pregnancy until it was time to give birth. Neither Gin nor Rangiku was prepaired for a child and due to their occupation the boy lived with a care taker. All of Gotei 13 was left in ignorance to Rin’s existence, he wasn’t really a secret, but he wasn’t a topic that the two brought up either.
In East Rukon Rin wasn’t raised like an orphan, he actually did see his parents on a regular basis, or at least he saw his father on a regular basis, Rangiku didn’t always have the off time she needed to get to East Rukon. Gin was an idol in Rin’s eyes, several times Rin got lost running away from ‘home’ trying to find his way to the seireitei to find Gin… and was always dragged back when he was found. There was always some reason why he couldn’t search for the place his parents lived… he was too little, or they’d be too busy.
Excuses however weren’t going to stop Rin… it’d simply be a hindrance. At an early age Rin began to occupy himself with common sports as well as teach himself to fight imitating the few techniques he’d seen his father use and imitating the things he’d seen from common street brawlers.
Between athleticism and self-training he began to grow strong…. At least far stronger than any child his age… still no match for an adult though, at this point he’d have something to show off whenever one of his parents dropped by.
-Tragedy-
As time passed by… Rin’s runaway attempts hadn’t ceased… he became the youngest Ryouka. Alerts spread through the Seireitei about an intruder which all were in a scramble to catch. By the time he was finally captured all were shocked at just how young their intruder was, and even moreso when they discovered who his parents were. Unfortunately, the father whom he’d been chasing after was already gone to Hueco Mundo and was branded a traitor in the sights of Soul Society.
However a set mind of a child isn’t always easily swayed, every night he’d wish for his father’s return… and one day… he finally got his wish.
A city from the living world Appeared in Soul Society, something about a winter war. Rin didn’t really know nor did he understand. He knew he was supposed to stay away from there, but knowing that only drove him to explore the city. That’s the place where he finally got to see his dad again…. He didn’t know what was going on but it seemed there was something going on between his father and a man with brown hair…. And then there was red… lots of red, and an explosion, his mom was crying over his dad who was covered in red and the brown haired man was coming her way until a guy with Orange hair ran off with the brown haired man. His dad was asleep covered in red… but the worst part was…. He wasn’t waking up.
Perhaps it was best for Rin to have believed his father was merely sleeping and would return at some point, for nothing could’ve shattered him more than to learn that Gin was never waking up, was never coming back and that Rin would never have the chance to see him again, never speak with him again, or show off how much he’s improved with learning basic shinigami skills…. Never again…
-Big Brother-
Rin was probably the youngest to ever enter into Shino academy. He was determined to become strong… no matter what the cost. Strength was the key to it all, or at least that’s how he saw it. Those who are strong can protect what means most to them. If only he had been strong enough to fight, to heal, to do something, anything that could’ve preserved his father’s life that day.
Rin may have been many things but a high scoring student was not one of them. He tried hard but was only managing to do enough just to stay enrolled. His instructors often suggested that he drop out and come back when he’s old enough to comprehend better and take on the load with more ease… but for Rin Failure just couldn’t be an option
The academy seemed to be one of the safest places to be when the Quincies attacked; it seemed to further Rin’s resolve to improve. He never thought he could make a big difference in the outcome of things... he never thought he could be some hero to save the world or anything of that nature… still he hated the idea of laying low while people who mean something are out fighting. He may not be able to help everyone but can he not do something for the select few that mean something to him?
Rin put forth much focus in learning techniques above anything else, if he knew no history… if he knew none of the regulations of the Seireitei, if he never knew the chain of command… the one thing he wanted to be sure he knew… was how to fight.
His grades were out of balance as with the academic portion he was utterly failing, but his grades in the area of techniques began to gradually rise. Besides what all did he need to know? Was not the main point of things simply to know that Hollows are bad and then how to fight them??? Or at least that’s how Rin saw it… however that rash attittude of his would someday get him into danger which could’ve been his end.
When a hollow that was being used for squad 12’s experiments escaped and was rampaging around the area Rin wasn’t willing to wait around for help to arrive. He took it apon himself to fight, he was tired of being ‘too little’ or ‘just not ready yet’. He was able too succeed at keeping the creature at bay, but as far as defeating it, he was far from it. If the truth be told he could’ve been killed had not a more experienced Shinigami stepped in.
Rin was no fan of Squad 12 or anyone associated… but that would eventually change… he’d eventually make an exception.
Hex was the name of the Shinigami who saved Rin. He was often identified as one who wore a silk scarf the color of scarlet around his neck and a symbol of a vertical eye tattooed on his hand.
One moment saving Rin the next he scolded him for his involvement. In truth Hex admired Rin’s will to be of help, which was why he made time to examine Rin’s academic scores… which were still rather poor. For what would be a close friendship their start wasn’t the greatest. Due to some chats with Rin’s instructors there were extra classes and lessons which Rin had to take lest he be put out of school for his academic disasters.
Of course young Ichimaru was NOT pleased. It annoyed Rin further when Hex would visit him during class hours. All of which leading up to the point where Rin challenged Hex to a match, and in response Hex casually declined reminding Rin who was the adult and who is the child… who is already a shinigami, and who is a mere student.
In short, for weeks Hex has succeeded in pissing Rin off. Rin would always smile; always keep that casual sort of composure, though one could always feel that extreme sense of coldness from Rin when Hex was around. It was like that for a while until during a kidō practice session Rin “accidentally” blasted Hex with hadō #31. It was then when Hex decided to take Rin up on that challenge.
It became the talk of the school an established Shinigami taking on a student… a child at that!
Some thought it a shame, others thought it was necessary that Rin learn his place.
Needless to say… the match didn’t turn out the way Rin hoped. For someone in the 12th division Hex could do more than science experiments, he knew how to work his ways on the battlefield.
There were a few times when his young opponent caught him off guard but most of the fight was in his hands. He spent much time seemingly taunting Rin giving him fighting tips during their match.
Rin hated that! He hated being treated like a baby, and he wasn’t fond of being toyed with either. But in the end, defeat opened the pathway for learning.
Hex took the time to explain both the strong points and the flaws in Rin’s fighting… as well as the inevitable.
From being enemies in a sense, Hex became a tutor for Rin. Seeing his potential he took the time to explain the academy’s curricular on a level which Rin would be able to understand.
Rin wasn’t all that willing to accept help from the likes of Hex, but the fact that he was learning revealed itself in Rin’s increasing scores.
It took time but Rin and Hex became close friends, to the point which RIn often addressed Hex as Nii-san.
Hex started with focus on Rin’s education before Rin’s training. Coming to know Rin he realized Rin’s admiration of his father and how he strived so much to be like him often chasing in Gin’s shadow. Hex’s contribution to that goal was improving Rin on a mental level… the former third captain was a cunning one.
Having set Rin on the right path with education Hex proceeded to train Rin and bump up his skills in combat.
He gifted Rin with a pendant of his Vertical Eye Symbol. Rin was excited about the trinket… until he found out his ‘present’ was for more than just decoration. What looked like an ordinary pendant set of a loud alarm early in the morning before the sun would rise, followed by a recording of Hex’s voice instructing Rin to get up and practice his drills as a form of early morning training.
It was amazing how their rough acquaintances somehow led to a bond like brothers, but then though Rin tends to act above his age at times he is still just a child, and children tend to forgive quickly and grow easily attached. It took three years for Rin to graduate, Hex with him guiding him all the way.
As a graduation present Hex gave Rin his scarlet scarf, which Rin often wears around his waist.
-Accident-
Rin was an unseated member of squad three… even lacking a position he seemed to constantly be under watch, with being the son of a former captain… the son of a traitor, and being a child people were curious to say the least. Did he have plans? Was he up to something outside of childish mischief? Would someone his age be capable of fulfilling any of the duties of a shinigami?
Rin usually didn’t have many duties to fulfill… it bothered him because he was sure he was receiving a lighter load do to his age. Often when he wasn’t working he’d spend all that free time tending to the persimmon trees which his father planted a long time ago, hanging out with his mother in squad 10, or hanging out and training with Hex.
Hex began working on a project outside of the Seireitei near one of the villages in Rukongai. It was an experiment with growing and concentrating various forms of energy. If the project went well there could be so many uses for said energy. It could be a power source for technology, or even better a power supply for the body. The theory was if a person could hold such a thickly concentrated energy within them… if their cells could utilize that energy, it could make cellular regeneration more plausible and at a dynamic rate. If such were the case shinigami would be more likely to bounce back from what should be fatal injuries, even without much aid from the fourth division. The idea was splendid, but it’s seldom for things to go as planned.
As months passed and Hex’s project was still in progress every so often Kurotsuchi would come out to personally examine the work make notes hypothesis and theories. Rin was instructed to stay away, just in case there was ever an unstable reaction. Hex would often explain his theories and his project to Rin during periods where he wasn’t monitoring his experiment.
It was only a matter of time when Hex’s one fear about his project came to pass…
The main-core of the project went unstable; it would only be a matter of time until it reached a point of meltdown. Captain Mayuri, Hex, and others from squad 12 worked to force stability, if they could do so the core would disperse on its own in due time… Their efforts only managed to stage off melt down, prolonging what would likely be the inevitable for enough time for Unohana and Hachi to come and attempt to seal the core before it self-destructs.
Catching wind of the catastrophe that was about to unfold Rin disregarded the instruction to stay away and rushed to the area, Rose (who was third captain at the time) and Rangiku chasing after in attempts to stop him. Rin arrived in enough time to see the seals used by Unohana and Hachi shake loose.
From the looks of things the core was gonna blow and there wouldn’t be enough time to evacuate the nearby village.
Rin remembered the theories Hex taught him… the basis of the entire project…
From the looks of things seals made of Reishi, forms of energy would not be able to stabilize and control the core directly… if the core is also energy it would only repel or absorb the reishi that makes up the seals. If only there were a catalyst to contain the core, then it could be sealed away until the unstable energy compounds disperse.
There was no time to talk theories, no time for discussion, only time for action.
Rin Rushed passed everyone in a sudden motion to the core absorbing it within himself, the unstable energy already affecting him. He could hardly stand, loosing balance, coughing up blood, action would have to be made quick lest the core destroy Rin then the entire area.
“You can’t seal the core… but you can seal me.” Those were Rin’s words. His mother disapproved but it was too late since Rin absorbed the core the only alternative to being sealed away was death.
He tried to make his mother and Hex feel better teasing about how they’d be old when they meet again smiling all the while.
Hachi used his technique Goyōgai creating a pentagonal barrier that is used for stabilization around Rin. Unohona following up with Shisō Kekkai, a technique rarely used by anyone… the last time it was used it was by Yamamoto himself. This technique seals and locks away a person. Before it is invoked four spears are used to trap the target by their hands and legs. Once invoked the target rises up into sky and is then sealed in a black coffin-like box with chains wrapping around it. The four spears then pierce the box all at once. It is seemingly able to keep a person sealed for several hundreds of years.
It’s likely that Hachi’s technique being performed prior to Unohana’s was what kept Rin perfectly preserved and unharmed.
Rin thought he’d still be able to see them again… he thought things would still be the same, noting how easy time was on shinigami, their life spans are much longer than that of a human, they age much slower as well. Still he underestimated the change that would come with the time passed.
-The Present-
Rose the seal containing Rin moved to the Persimmon Orchard located in squad three where Rin remained for many, many years. The core stabilizing and dissipating, slowly leaving Rin, and the seals the energy being absorbed into the trees allowing them to grow large and prosper.
Even after the practitioners passed the seal weakened yet still held for years… over time it was forgotten that such was actually a seal rather than some useless decoration in the orchard.
A couple Squad members got into a squabble fighting in the Persimmon Orchard, the fight got rougher than intended and the seal which by this time took no appearance of a seal noting that nature had its way, wind, storms, dust and growth, there were vines and moss all over it. It looked like an old garden relic, who would care if it got damaged in a fight? However it was that fight that caused the seal to break releasing Rin.
The world now was so different than before, it took a bit of research for them to place Rin finding out why he was there. He was reenlisted as a shinigami of the third division, a probationary officer, he was to be under watch, see how he’d adjust to the world which had become much different than he remembered. And worst of all, those he left behind were long gone. Rin wondered if they knew they’d never meet again, or if they waited for him all those years. Not that it mattered. All he had left now was his original goal… become strong… strong enough never to have to suffer loss again.
He spent nearly a year as an unranked officer with a tendency to train with squad 11 members to improve his strength… though after his time getting used to the change it was time to move up.
He challenged the third Seat of squad three for his position, some say it was skill others say it was luck… either way, Rin moved into the rank where he is to this day.
