Dallas stood in the bathroom of her locker room, facing the mirror as she went about braiding her long hair. Tonight, she was to team up with Jamie Bader once again, this time joining them would be her brother, Marshall Lee. Seeing as last week was a disaster, she only hoped tonight would go by much better. She honestly didn’t see why she was continuously teamed up with Jamie, he didn’t like them and the feeling was surely mutual; at least, on Marshall’s case.
Finished with her braid, she tied it at the end and gave her long reflection one last look over before turning around to leave. But there in her way, loomed her vampire brother, smirking back at her. “Holy crap!” she gasped loudly as she jumped back, bumping into the counter and clutched at her chest. She glanced at Marshall with wide eyes then looked back to the mirror, seeing only her reflection. Turning back to him, she questioned, “H-How did you-…Is this some sort of trick?”
“A trick?” he repeated with his fanged grin, “Why would you think such a thing, Dal? I thought you knew me better than that.”He tucked his hands into the pockets of his jeans as she shook her head in disbelief and followed her out into the locker room after she pushed herself past him. “You still don’t believe me to be the real thing, huh?”
Dallas rolled her eyes as she sat herself on her bench, “Are you?”
“…You tell me.” His grin only grew when she tossed him a glare. He loved to tease others about his race in question. It was just fun leaving others to guess. Leaning against the wall, he watched her through his dark colored bangs. “So, what have you gathered on the mutt? Did you see anything suspicious?”
His sister shook her head, “No. I can’t seem to get close enough without tipping him off that something is up. I dunno, Marsh…Maybe he isn’t.”
Marshall tsk’d and slowly made his way over to take a seat beside Dallas. He knew he was right. There was something a little off about Jamie and he knew exactly what it was. A vampire’s intuition is never wrong. “You just gotta be sneaky. But fine, we’ll leave the physical characteristics for a later time.”
“So…what do we look for now?” questioned Dallas as she eyed her brother, who was rubbing his jaw in thought. Whatever he had planned, she was willing to do, just so long as it wouldn’t get her in trouble with the man who seemed to be their target.
He turned to her and snapped his fingers, “I got it. We look at other things that won’t involve us getting too close.”
“Such as?”
“Well, like…little quirks and things he does. For example…wolves don’t necessarily have to shift on a full moon, but they definitely are affected somehow. They’re usually really active and are pretty much bouncing off the walls.”
“So you want to go stalk him on a full moon?” Dallas raised her eyebrow in question as she said this.
“…We’ll save that for a later time, but good suggestion none the less!” Marshall patted his sister on the back in praise. “But for now, let’s keep it simple. Let me give you a run down on things you should look out for. For starters, wolves reek. Trust me, my nose is sensitive enough to pick up the smell of wet, dirty dog a mile away. Secondly, they have large appetites and a larger temper. Do NOT go near an angry wolf.”
“But Jamie’s angry all the time…”
“Exactly!” he cried out with a smile, pulling her in close, “No normal human being is always that mad. You’re catching on quick, Dal.”
She face palmed at the conversation she couldn’t believe she and her brother were having. “You sure do know a lot about something you hate.”
“It’s always wise to know as much as you can about the enemy,” he replied smugly, “Keep in mind, his kind and mine aren’t exactly best friends.” He gave her temple a small kiss as he stood from the bench, “Well, I got to get ready for tonight.” As he walked away, he turned to face her once more, “Remember, anything weird, let me know. Also…keep looking for that tail. He can’t keep it hidden forever.”
And with that, he was gone from sight, leaving Dallas alone, shaking her head at what had just occurred.
