Calder had gone north specifically to find a certain kind of berry that only grew in the colder parts of the Wardwood. But, much to his chagrin, a similar kind of berry had cropped up since his last trip -- and, as he discovered when he bit into a clump, unlike the sweet, plump red ones he was looking for, these were sour and mushy. His sudden burst of cursing sent the local wildlife running for cover, and he shook his head, huffing irritably as he spat out the lookalike berries.

"Thrice-damned plants," he bit out, stalking away from the clearing to find the nearby river to wash his mouth out with. He was going to have be more careful with his eating habits -- though he hoped that the disgusting new berries hadn't completely replaced the old, tasty ones.

Roan was having a nice day, a little hazy when he first woke up but as he wondered around it got better. He found neat things to do and explore, and found some tree that was perfect to rub his itchy antlers on. As the day ticked by he found himself at a river and soon had dipped his whole nose in mouth in it so his eyes were as close to the river as possible. Then he stood still. The reason, he wanted to see; if he could see a fish up close. He had seen them darting, bright silver flashes through the water; but he had never truly seen one. Least not living. Seeing a dead one on the shore wasn’t quite the same.

He stood like this without so much as a flick of his tail. His ears straining forward and his eyes wide to catch any movement at all. Even as his lungs started to burn, in fact when the black buck appeared he was not inclined to move still; making quiet the odd sight. Finally the burn was too much and he threw his head up and shook himself as he gasped for air. Happy and excited he snorted and his short tail wagged wildly. Gold eyes spun around, and only then did he spot the black buck; and then all he did was blink as he froze. He had expected no deer around here; and to see one filled him with bubbling excitement. So like a startled rabbit he jumped forward toward the buck. “Good morning!” He had a smooth clear voice, chipper and filled with the excitement he was feeling.
