Hello everyone. This is the official page to post your character profiles for the upcoming Toukan Conquest RP. I'm not going to explain the general plot here, this is just a reference page for the new Toukan characters to be introduced in that story arc. First, a summary:

Who are the Toukan?

凍寒 toukan, meaning frost / bitter cold in Japanese
(pronounced toh-kahn)

The Toukan are a race of humanoid ice dragon people I created in the Lunar Hope's storyline for roleplay. They are often referenced, but not really known because the main population were killed in a war nearly 30 years ago. They fought with the Neko tribe Kyla was from because Lady Ruby, Kyla's Toukan mother, instigated a war by having relations with Feral Ewens, Kyla's Neko father. She claimed that she was being taken advantage of, and became pregnant with Kyla. This was actually a plot set in motion by Yokoshima to exterminate both races in one fell swoop, despite the fact Yokoshima was responsible for both the entire Toukan race and that Neko tribe coming into being.

Initially, the Toukan race were bred to have superior physical capabilities and in turn developed a superiority complex over other races.

At birth, Toukan are tested for their potential fighting capabilities. Toukan babies whose test results show up as extremely weak are executed, though to be honest those are extreme cases. This is more of a mercy killing, since they'd have to suffer and die with disgrace, because being part of Toukan society is very difficult. The vast majority of Toukan babies are at least given an initial chance. Toukan children trained from a young age how to fight. After a Toukan child reaches a certain age, they are forced to live in the wilderness to see if they're strong enough to survive on their own, for a set period of time. If they can survive the conditions of the isolation and return successfully after the alloted time, they are welcomed into society with open arms. Physically weak Toukan, or Toukan deemed too radical were deemed unworthy, and often were killed or left for dead depending on the case.They believed in "Survival of the Fittest", mainly because they believed they were the most superior life forms on the planet. They tolerated only their disciplined, their loyal, and their strong.

Toukan society has changed many times over its history, but their society was always ruled by a single monarch. Unlike human nobility, monarchs are not pampered initially. As young princes or princesses, they have to become strong enough to overthrow the previous king or queen. In other words, the child must kill the parent to succeed him. Until they were capable of doing so, they lived in the same conditions as everyone else in society....no matter what they were at the time. There was a case of a Toukan prince starving to death in the streets because he was too weak to fit into Toukan society, let alone be strong enough to kill the monarch. The first child to do so is deemed the new monarch. The eldest child isn't "first in line". From there, all must swear allegiance. If princes and princesses kill each other before the monarch, this is considered part of the ritual. If they weren't strong enough to slay their competition, they don't deserve to rule (in their society's eyes at least). There is also no sexism in the government. If a princess is strong enough to slay the monarch, she becomes the Queen. There is no other gender counterpart. She becomes the undisputed ruler until one of her children overthrows her.

Even with their strict laws and norms, the Toukan society was very cultured and has a rich history. Founded after the Ice Age, they are often referred to as "Winter's Children". They tended to gravitate towards cold places. Many Toukan ages took place on mountains, but not all. There are no known societies, save for elves perhaps, that had such a long golden age. Each Toukan treats the others with respect. There was never any extreme corruption, and because it's much more simple: either you live and survive, or you die and contribute nothing. This also means that Toukan societies were very small. The entire race lived in a society comparable to a large tribe.

Archaeologists have found ancient works of art and several tomes about their history since their extinction. They excelled in quantum physics, mathematics, and philosophy..to name a few. They also had a rich language, which derives from ancient dragon speech. They also had a very devoted church dedicated to their God King and progenitor: Golokthur the Frost Overlord. They have had several different flavors in their culture, many different eras, but there are no known civil wars between Toukan themselves. That's due to their strict code of honor. Most people regard Toukan as tyrannical because every other race was potential prey, but that does not make them inherently evil beings.

So that's the Toukan. Not bad for a race I made up, I like to think. ^^; (I, of course had some inspiration)

So what I want you to do is create a Toukan character, from any point in history. Ranging from the Ice Age all the way until the war. So you basically have thousands, if not millions, of years to work with. They originated in a time before mammals dominated the planet, all the way until a few decades ago where most races coexisted.

Name
Toukan names are comprised of words of Dragon Language, like Skryim (actually ripped right out of Syrim wiki http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Dragon_Language ). Each name has meaning, usually referring to their abilities, personality traits, or something else relating to that one person. Something that kind of defines that person. For example:

Golukthur (Gol = Earth, Lok = Sky, Thur = Tyranny / Overlord, meaning Overlord of both Earth and Sky

Please use at least 1 word from that wiki. I'd suggest using no more than 3 at the most, unless you really want to.

Appearance
Toukan can somewhat shape shift. They can have a human-esque form with no tail or wings, they can have wings and no tail, they can have a tail and no wings, etc. They also tend to have claws and talons, but the same rules apply. Or you could choose to make them look completely human (like Kold most of the time), but I'm strongly discouraging that unless that really really really what you want to do. So you can make them as humanoid or as beast-like as you want provided the same basic humanoid shape is there. And of course I want you to make a tektek. razz Male Toukan have horns, female don't.

Toukan from earlier points in history don't really have a "human form". As mammals dominated the planet, however, they became able to adapt and blend in that way. They are an artificially created species after all.

Personality and Backstory
In general, Toukan have a superiority complex over other life forms because...they're technically superior to other species on many levels. That's a general attitude the Toukan have during the course of their cultures. Your character can be an exception, but keep in mind our characters are villains.

What is your Toukan's personality like? So it's like, how one acts in society and how one really is when they're by themselves. You can choose to talk about one, the other, or both.

Basically a historical summary. The Toukan "Monarch" characters are the most noteworthy and/or the most powerful Toukan from history. Tell us about how they impacted history, and why others would follow him/her.

If you have any additional characters you want to talk about that aren't "Monarchs", feel free to do so if you'd like.

Age
Toukan have extremely long lifespans. Toukan essentially have a lifespan 25x that of humans, roughly speaking. So just take the human age and multiply it by 25, and that's about the age they'll be.(Thanks Kat's and Seph's collective MathFace). You can give or take a few decades if you felt like it too.

Kold's technically the equivalent of a 21 year old human (525 / 25 = 21), however....he's a special case, since he experienced much more living in the human world. An elderly Toukan can be up to about 2,500 years old, but of course there are exceptional cases of some living longer.

So pick an age for your Toukan, prox.

Toukan physical traits
Not all Toukan are equal. In fact, Kold is pretty pathetic by Toukan standards. But the best-of-the-best has all of these traits.

* human-like sight in daylight, cat-like sight in the dark
* has tough scales / tough skin
* has hard (like density hardness) claws and talons
* powerful tails
* superhuman strength
* superhuman speed
* can breathe underwater (some prefer to live underwater, but the society is based in bitter cold regions, often on mountain tops)
* can fly (with wings only)
* ice breath, general ice and cold manipulation
* can use weapons
* can change appearance to look human (a fixed change. Kold consistently looks like like a unique human man. Same idea. Just an alternate form, and is more meant to blend in. Toukan physical abilities are limited in that form)
* intelligence on par with humans
* omnivores (Toukan society tends to be predator carnivores, but some could be vegetarian. It depends on the person)
* intelligence level on part to humans'
* human-like society (clothing, currency, trading, art, buildings, etc.)

Fighting Style
Toukan are pretty much whatever you want for fighting styles, like humans. They can also breathe under water and fly in the sky (if they have wings). They can use weapons or not, and of course whatever kind of ice powers you want. Toukan aren't limited to the Retsunin's cryomancy*, so it's basically whatever you want. Think of Toukan as natural ice users. It can be like Kold's or ice breath, or whatever else you feel like doing.

*(Kold and the other Retsunin use an additional discipline to harness frost and cold. Kold uses psychic powers, Rime uses White Magic, Maritime uses Shade Magic, etc. Humans and most other beings have a hard time controlling Ice Magic.)

Time Period
What time period is your Toukan from? What was that time period like? The Toukan characters are supposed to be from different eras, and cultures. Maybe Toukan culture is relatively the same, but over thousands of years it's bound to change flavor. Have your Toukan reflect a time period between the Ice Age and the Toukan / Neko war. You don't have to go super in-depth for this if you don't want to, but it's an option.

Ideal Monarchy
In the RP itself, many powerful Toukan are going to try to conquer nations to create their own monarchy. Basically Golokthur, their God, will tell them, "Whoever claims a monarchy for themselves and can maintain it, I will grant you the divine right to rule there.". Like every human, or any other person, people have different preferences depending on the times they live in, their culture, their personality, and location.

Basically this is, "If your character conquered an area on Gaia and became a new monarch, and the nation would be built around their tastes....where would it be and why?"

What kind of climate would it have? Would it be a location already established in the Lunar Hope canon? Would it be a completely new place? What would some of the customs be? What kind of life forms would be the prey? Or would they eat only vegetables? These are just some examples. You don't have to answer them all. Just what you feel like.

Have fun with this! I'll be looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Name: Volqeth

Vol (Horror) Qeth (Bone)

Age before death: Unknown

Fighting Style:

Personality and Backstory

According to ancient legends, Golokthur reached out to Volqeth with his thoughts, and told him to come to the Holy Land of the Toukan. Volqeth journeyed for decades, and eventually came across where Golokthur was sealed. Volqeth was overwhelmed by Golokthur's mere presence. Even though he was sealed away, the weight of his power leaked from the seal. Golokthur explained that Volqeth is one of his descendants, and charged him with a task: to teach the ways of Golokthur to his children. He was to share Golokthur's beliefs: that all other life is only worthy of consumption, and that the weak are the damned. For this task, Golokthur infused within Volqeth a microscopic fraction of his power. This would allow him to live much longer than a normal Toukan, so that he can observe the course of history until Golokthur's inevitable return.

Why He Follows Golokthur:

To Volqeth, there is no question as to why...but simply to do. His God gave him the task of being his herald, and that's all there is to it. Volqeth is Golokthur's greatest follower, and thanks to

Ro Kolslengaan

Kol (Crag) Slen (Flesh) Gaan (Stamina) = Stonefleshed Warrior of Enduring

Profile

Name: Kolslengaan

Height: 274 cm / 9 ft

Weight 436 kg / 962 lbs.

Age before death: 376 (about age 15 x 25 = 375 / Toukan equivilent +1 year.)

Favorite Food: Sabertooth Neko

Least Favorite Food: anything with chlorophyll

Hobbies hunting, fishing, fighting, curling, and digging

Favorite Phrase: "Can't I hunt instead?"

toukan physical traits

* rare red scales (extreme density and hardness like osmium)
*super toukan endurance
*super toukan strength
*super human speed
*frost breath
*flightless, but can jump high enough to compensate
*resistant to frost, even more than most Toukan
*sharp and hard fangs (can break steel with them)

Fighting Style

Kolslengaan is barefoot, and only wears the furs and bones of what he’s hunted. Besides being a Toukan, he likes to feel the wind on his scales. Not to mention he’s pretty much wearing the best suit of armor possible. He fights bare handed, using frost to extend the range of his attacks. He tends to play with his opponents for a while, and usually lets them launch the first attack. When the attack fails, Kolslengaan uses the surprise to launch attacks and likes to whittle his opponents down, trying to enjoy the hunt as long as he can. He uses a very free-flowing style of self-taught martial arts using his four limbs, his two horns, and his tail. He’ll occasionally use his fangs, which are arguably more dangerous. He’s somewhat unpredictable, because he may randomly use frost breath or some other ice attacks....but he’s very whimsical while fighting and tries to have a good time with his prey. He also digs underground occasionally, like a land shark?

Time Period

Pleistocene era, circa 2,000,000 years ago

Glaciers and cold were common, so the Toukan Race at the time followed the herds instead of staying in one place. Kolslengaan was more interested in the rocks and dirt compared to the countless glaciers. Sabertoothed Neko were common back then, and life was harsh. Mammals were just starting to emerge, albeit primal. It was a much more simple world compared to Gaia of today. That being said, the Toukan society, while tribal, were still very sophisticated as a culture, even back then.

Personality and Backstory

Kolslengaan was born a Toukan prince, the youngest of three. He had an older brother, Drem, and his elder sister, Briizinpaar . Though he was the youngest, he always attempted challenges others considered reckless or impossible. He convinced the Queen allow him to take the Isolation Examination when he was only 97 (equal to about a 4 year old human), which was unprecedented at the time. He grew to love the hunt, and would often abandon whatever tasks he was given to hunt. When he was serious though, even the Warlords feared him. He was a Toukan of incredible talent, and excelled at everything he put his mind to. On a whim he wrote a thesis explaining how objects near Absolute Zero become superconductors, which has yet to be disproved. He held the record of Draco Chess for 60 years straight undefeated, but got bored with it and took up curling shortly afterward. At the age of 200 (equal to about an 8 year old human), he challenged and killed the queen because he was tired of her barking orders all the time. Kolsengaan was the youngest prince to become a king. Those who didn't know him well feared the idea if he became corrupt and turned on them, but his family knew better. He may look scary, be rebellious, and have a relatively short attention span, but he always defended his kin from danger.

What really defines him though, is his scales. They're the hardest known scales in Toukan history. It's unknown if it's because he conditioned himself from an early age, from eating rocks when digging, or if it's simply genetic. His scales are so ridiculously sturdy, that he's only ever been hurt once in his entire life: his death.

He went around hunting, and challenging people to fight him. He eventually met with a hermit. He had scruffy brown hair, facial stubble, a piercing gaze, a corn stalk in his mouth, a green tattered cloak, and ridiculously well build muscles for a mammal man. He challenged the man and told him to take the first shot. The hermit punched a hole in his chest with his bare fist, and Kolslengaan saw his own blood pour out. He experienced real pain for the first time...and the last time.

Ideal Kingdom

Kolslengaan doesn’t care about ruling, though he does care about the people who support him. He’d happily give the crown to one of his siblings if he could do whatever he wanted. A Kingdom where he could be free to explore, hunt, and fight is what he really wants. As for everything else, he’ll let his siblings have it.

Name: Ro Wuthdrem, but prefers to be called simply "Drem"

Wuth (Wisdom) Drem (Patience / Peace)= Wise Patience

Age before death: 742 (28 x 25 = 700, then I wanted "42" in the age)

Personality:

Drem is generally quiet and content to let his siblings do the talking, but when he does speak they always listen. He's the most sensible of the group, and looks out for his siblings best interests. He tends to point out important details that others may overlook, or choose to keep quiet when depending on the situation. Angering Drem is practically unheard of, but it's best not to push him to that point. None who did lived to talk about it. He is very humble, so issues of pride don't bother him...despite being a Toukan prince. He enjoys Draco Chess, fishing, and crafting.

Fighting Style:

He tends to take his time and analyze a situation, then only act when it's in his favor. He uses bone weapons, many of which are concealed in his pelt cloak until he needs them. He emphasizes on pressure points and precision attacks. He is also adept with Black Qi, and it's very difficult to sneak up on him or take him by surprise. He's very observant, and quickly adapts to an enemy's strategy.

Why He Follows Kolslengaan:

When Kolslengaan became King, he happily served him as an adviser. As an older brother, he wants to take care of his reckless brother, even if he doesn't need it. He has a strong sense of duty serving his king, and always tries to keep him on track.

Name: Ro Briizinpaar

Brii (Beauty) Zin (Honor) Paar (Ambition) = Beautiful and Honorable Ambition

Age before death: 899 (36 x 25 = 900, - 1 year)

Fighting Style:

In battle, she tends to be quite daring. She has full confidence in herself, especially because she's royalty. She believes the royal Toukan are the strongest...though her arrogance can get her into trouble sometimes. She prefers sky battles, and tends to look down on her opponents (in both ways). She refuses to use weapons, as she views them as tools of the mammals. She often scolds Drem for this. She fights with an ancient and refined martial art using air currents to strengthen her frost abilities. She is extremely disciplined and very rarely makes mistakes from lack of training.

Personality

Briizinpaar is the eldest of the royal siblings, and is the only one that acts like royalty. Truthfully, she wanted to be the Queen to rule the Toukan....but her youngest brother beat her to it when he was just a hatchling. She resented him for that, but there was no denying his strength...which she, of course, respected. Like Drem, she served as an adviser to the King. She chewed him out plenty for his irresponsibility, but always made sure not to overdo it like their mother did. She believes her brothers should act more according to their bloodline, and believes that she is Golokthur's gift to the world. She's also extremely vain about her physical appearance because of this. She believes the Toukan would be privileged to be in her presence, let alone everyone else. Even so, she follows a strict code of Toukan honor. She eats whatever she kills, as to not waste resources, she doesn't tolerate weakness of heart or body in Toukan, and she praises the strong...even if she personally doesn't like a person. As royalty she believes it's her responsibility to embody the Toukan ideals: ambition, power, and Toukan honor.

Why She's Following Kolslengaan

She believes the Toukan are meant to rule the planet, and is willing to do whatever it takes to make that happen...even if it means serving her kid brother in the process. Not to mention the prospect of Kolslengaan offering her a kingdom they conquer if he can do the conquering. She also wants to make sure her brother doesn't do anything too reckless...this time.

Marshal Kaalfoaar

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Kaal (Champion) Fo (Frost) Aar (Servant) - The champion who serves the frost (Toukan)

Profile

Height: 6'8"
Age before death: 1310 (Toukan equivilent to around 52)
Favourite food: Elf Steaks
Least favourite food: Beans
Hobbies: Fencing, Collecting ancient Toukan artifacts, Genocide
Favourite phrase: "I know, what needs to be done..."

Toukan Physical Traits

* Super Toukan agility
* Greatly honed reflexes
* Adept user of black haki
* Superior Toukan strength/endurance

Time Period

1700s - early 1800s

Personality

Basically, Kaalfoaar is a super racist even by normal Toukan standards. He views the other "young" races of the world as worthless and nothing but threats to the planet and the Toukan's rightful rulership over it, and believes it his duty as a soldier of the Toukan to destroy all threats to their society. He has little patience for weakness or cowardice.

Back Story

Kaalfoaar was once a powerful an influential general serving the Toukan. He became increasingly discontent however, with the Toukan's tolerance of the other races, and perceived the Toukan leadership to have become complacent and weak, ignoring the threat he perceived the younger races to pose.

Eventually this resulted in him leading an armed coup against the Toukan King of the time, along with a gathering of like-minded extremists. He personally slew the King, and made claim to leadership over the Toukan. Still being highly respectful of Toukan tradition though, he refused to take the title of King, having not earned it by rightful means, and instead took on the title of "Marshal", to act as a steward of the throne until the next rightful king emerged.

He ruled as a warlike dictator for many years following his revolution, until the Toukan people eventually tired of the strain the constant crusades put upon their society. The popularity Kaalfoaar enjoyed from Toukan nationalists at the start of his rule eventually ran dry, and a counter revolution was launched against him.

Still feeling deep guilt and regret from slaying his own during his rise to power, Kaalfoaar refused to raise his blade against his kin a second time, and instead took his own life atop the Toukan royal palace. The leader of the counter revolutionaries would go on to become the next rightful king with little opposition.

Whether Marshal Kaalfoaar was saint or a tyrant to the Toukan remained an ongoing debate up until the Toukans extinction, though mentions of him were often hushed. Some time after his demise, it was quite controversially decided that he should be given a royal funeral, and his remains were moved to a larger grave site near the borders of the Toukan lands, where a permafrost statue of Kaalfoaar was constructed, ever staring coldly out towards the lands of the young races, a harsh reminder to onlookers that the Toukans rarely appreciate the company of others.

Doctor Maarsil

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Maar (Terror) Sil (Soul) - He who's soul inspires terror

Profile

Height: 6'2"
Age before death: 1049 (Toukan equivilent of 41, died just before reaching his answer to everything razz )
Favourite food: Medicinal tablets
Least favourite food: Anything that might be construed as unhealthy
Hobbies: Studying his scientific fields, Dissecting things, Draco chess, Writing, Being a hypochondriac
Favourite phrase: "Oh, you want to know why I never blink?..."

Toukan Physical Traits

* Fairly scrawny by average Toukan standards
* Vastly accelerated natural healing
* Superior intelligence
* latant phychic abilities
* Immunity to virtually all existing poisons/toxins
* His tail is far stronger than average, trained through Maarsil using it constantly to both hold down his patients and assist with his operations, also affording him greater precision with it.
* Never blinks, ever

Time Period

Later 1800s - early 1900s

Personality

A creepy, often paranoid individual, Maarsil's rather nervous and pacified disposition often fool those not familiar with him into thinking he's weak and disorganised. In reality this awkward veil hides one of the most ingenious scientific minds of the Toukan civilisation. There is never a point when Maarsil doesn't know exactly what he's doing, but in many regards, he prefers to take the back seat to more bold, headstrong Toukans. One thing that remains a constant both inwardly and outwardly is an unsettling insanity, one that has been eating at him since birth. Because of this eccentric nature and his quiet personality, Maarsil is generally a bit of an outcast in Touken society despite his great intelligence and skill. Even strong Toukan often get chills down their spines when confronted with Maarsil's eerie, unblinking gaze.

Back Story

Maarsil is a Toukan doctor and scientist of very considerable note, and of some considerable infamy. Previously going only by the name "Maar (Terror)" for many years, this was rumored to be the first word spoken by a Toukan aptitude tester when they gazed into Maarsil's eyes. Originally unremarkable to his peers, with fairly mediocre physical and magical abilities, as Maarsil grew older his chief asset became ever more apparent, his mind. Unknown back then, he had been born with a rare trace of psychic potential, inherited from the gene-pool of the early Toukans, watered down copies of Golokthurs immense power.

Maarsil spent much of his early life in relative isolation from his kin. He lacked the aggressive edge most Toukan possess, and developed a strong fear of death, witch most viewed as weakness. This fear of death however, drove Maarsil to an obsessive study of medical science. Enrolling in the Toukan armed forces as a field medic for purposes of his research and his growing morbid curiosity, he quickly became a gifted healer and surgeon, credited with bringing many Toukan back from the brink of death, including himself. Among many soldiers who had seen him shrug off grave wounds like they were a minor inconvenience, he earned the nickname "Maar the Immortal".

His exploits earned him the respect of his kin for the first time (Though many still preferred to keep their distance due to his rather creepy nature). This afforded him a high social standing, and more freedoms to continue his research. Often unlucky trespassers or Toukan prisoners of war would find themselves the next subjects for Maarsil's unsightly research projects, and it didn't take long for him to become one of the leading authorities on biological and alchemical sciences, leading to the development of early Toukan chemical warfare projects that often became the subject of much debate from those who viewed this as an affront to the knightly values of Toukan warriors.

Although he got offered various other research and university positions following his success on the battlefield, Maarsil soon found out that now he had gotten a taste of the chaos of war, he couldn't let go. Too fascinated was he in the waltz of fleeting mortality that took place on the battlefield, that he found himself compelled to stay, and to further entertain his less pleasant research projects, finding that his knowledge of biology worked just as well for harming his enemies as it did for healing his allies.

There were those who said however, that Maarsil has another reason for staying with the military, perhaps the choice was less for the benefit of his research and more for his own protection. In the years leading up to Dr. Maarsil's death under strange circumstances he became increasingly more paranoid and unstable. Soldiers who worked with him claim that when Maarsil would mutter to himself, they could catch one distinct word, whispered as if talking behind someone's back... "Yokoshima".

Was Maarsil, in his genius, getting too close to something perhaps? The Toukan's never did find out, as one fateful day Dr. Maarsil and many of his fellow medical officers and confidants, turned up dead, murdered under mysterious circumstances with no clear suspects. There were exaggerated legends and stories made up, of how Maarsil was practicing dark arts, and Pandemonium herself arose to devour him and his subordinates for their trespass. Or tales of political treachery, that some secret society had Maarsil murdered for not following their demands. All tales that elder Toukan used to frighten young hatchlings, but up until the very end, nobody really knew the truth... except perhaps the infamous Dr. Maarsil.
