Relationship with Family: Strained at best. Ian gets along famously with his mother but has some difficulty tolerating his father. His life has been sheltered in various ways; Peter did not allow the Harry Potter books in his house or for Ian to read them, as he felt they gave Slytherins and those associated a bad name and misrepresented a great deal of things. To this day, Ian is still out of the fandom loop and wouldn't be able to carry on a conversation about the series. As his father was raised in a pure blood environment (or so he claims), Peter strove to give the same treatment to his own family. As such, Ian has very little knowledge or experience in dealing with muggles and their technology and the only knowledge of such things comes from his mother but her descriptions are sparse at best. There was always an intense duality between his parents and how they raised him; his mother with a quiet, loving voice and his father with strict rules and unfortunate consequences. He writes to his mother frequently but has to be careful of what he includes in the event his father gets his hands on the mail.
HISTORY
General History: Born in the United States, Maine to be specific, Ian wasn't brought over to the United Kingdom until he was just shy of three years old. With it and his mother, he brought back the accent while his father retained his Irish one. His parents had met while his father was on holiday to America. The two hit it off romantically, his Muggle mother swept away by the notion of magic that she discovered accidentally through Peter, but they could not stay together long. Peter had to leave and the two became pen pals of sorts, writing each other from across the ocean. Ian's existence was a surprise to Peter but he arranged things so that, when the two of them were financially stable, they could leave together and get married. Things worked out swimmingly in that regard, though Sharon's non-magical status and Muggle blood was frowned upon by the rest of Peter's family. After marriage, the family of three became estranged from Peter's own and Sharon had difficulty with her own family for just barely being eighteen when she got pregnant on top of the confusion of her moving and them never meeting the father of her child. Love makes muggles and wizards alike do crazy things.
From there on, Ian had a strange mix in his childhood. Sharon was as unfamiliar to wizarding concepts as Peter was to muggle ones and balancing the two for their son was difficult at best. Sharon decided that the Muggle side wasn't important by comparison, especially if he would be attending a wizarding school anyway, so with her permission (and Peter's insistence), Ian was raised with as little muggle knowledge as possible to prepare him for the wizarding world. As the years went on, Peter became more strict about these things, what Ian was allowed to familiarize himself with, what to study and prepare for. Without intending do, though not necessarily regretting it, he was becoming very much like the family that raised him. Despite his own hypocrisy of marrying a muggle with no magic to speak of, he raised his son and tried to live as if he and his entire family were pure blooded and held them to a higher standard. On Ian's eleventh birthday, he was taken to Diagon Alley where a Gringotts account was set up and he was given a head start for school on wand selection. There were around three tests in total (two fizzles and one mildly dangerous combustion which resulted in a few singed eyebrows) until they noticed one particular wand box practically vibrating from Ian's presence. Though the wand was a match, its core certainly made it finicky but Ian and his wand were smitten.
From there on began Ian's preparation and anticipation for his eleventh birthday and his first year at Hogwarts. Though his parents weren't avid sports fans and thus Ian had little interest in the scene himself, the concept of flying was one that always entranced him and the easiest way to do that was with the intent of playing Quidditch. The only position that interested Ian was that of a Beater, so he has been working on his arm strength, flight precision, and broom balance and has gotten quite good. The disappointment of not being able to use his own personal broom until second year was a surprising blow but with no restrictions of first years being Quidditch players, he's remaining hopeful.
MISCELLANEOUS
The Sorting: Ian wasn't sure what to expect from the sorting. His father had always told him that Slytherin was the "best" house and he should aspire toward it but the explanations for such were always lacking. From Peter's bias against the book series, he figured from an early age that most people weren't too keen on Slytherin house for some reason. Personally, he found Hufflepuff and Gryffindor more up his alley from the bare bones he learned about them, while considering Ravenclaws somewhat pompous. When his name was called, he still had no clear ideas of where he wanted to be and the Hat picked up on this immediately. It tested him, prodded him with subtle questions which Ian answered pointedly. The Sorting Hat told him he could easily fit in any of the Houses, but there was something deeper that would skew him in one direction. Eventually it came down to Gryffindor and Slytherin which was made harder for the fact that Ian wasn't terribly keen on following in his father's foot steps, so to speak. The sorting process was fairly long compared to others in his year but Ian eventually hurried the Hat along by simply stating "Whatever's easiest" for his preference. The Hat cackled loudly and shouted "Slytherin!" to the surprise of many, including Ian, but the job was done. He found himself at the green clad table and sat quietly, gaining some looks of scrutiny while others offered a quiet welcome.

EXTRA CREDIT
Patronus: A large mother bear. Its form is smoky and difficult to see until it is able to strike against its foes.
Greatest Treasure: A muggle wrist watch his mother gave him as a birthday present. She didn't explain how it worked or was worn, just that it told time. Since he began his stay at Hogwarts, he's taken to lacing its holes with a chain and wearing it as if it were a choker necklace instead of its proper use.
Manner of Dress: Very casual. Even for one raised as he was, his father didn't have a strict rule on attire so long as he looked presentable. At home and on days when uniforms aren't required, Ian tends to wear t-shirts, jeans, hooded sweatshirts, tank tops, and sneakers. He's most partial to wife beaters and jeans in the Summer and a t-shirt with long sleeves underneath for Autumn.
Favorite Class: Defense Against the Dark Arts
Worst Class: Muggle Studies (he enjoys it, he's just not very good)
