YOUNG GIRL

Name:
Xia He Qiao

Color:
#1464F4 █████ - Ulysses' Butterfly

Age:
12

Nationality:
Chinese-American

Home/Financial Status:
Upper-Middle Class

School:
Rosaline Academy, her parents both hold jobs to make sure she can obtain the best education.

Personality:
In a way "shallow" is the best first word to apply to Xia He. Not precisely in the negative sense of the word; however, Xia He does not bother with things like "ulterior motives," or "withholding her feelings". While generally a very cheerful young girl, the fact that she can be so open emotionally often ends up being more grating for people who have a less than nominal appreciation for the invasion of their personal space. Xia He doesn't mince words, at least not with her intentions or feelings. After all, as far as the Chinese girl is concerned, it's far more difficult to lie and maintain it, than it is to just be honest, and she loves it when things are easy.

Xia He makes no attempts to stand out from the crowd. She's hardly leader material, just as eager to insert and carry out a plan as she is to be part of the group. Lacking any qualms in "taking one for the team," Xia He is not a selfish girl at first glance, at least not with material items. In fact, she seems quite eager to put herself out their for the sake of others.

Still, Xia He is only human, and as the wish system goes, all humans are selfish and desire one thing or the other. In her case, this comes to an extreme. While she is cheerful and approachable, the preteen is not so quick to let go. Her emotional constitution is weak, and she handles rejection and loss poorly. This may be in part to the fact that she's always had a loyal companion, or that she's never really been told she couldn't have something or had to give something up. As an only child, Xia He always got to keep what she wanted, and this often applied to friends as well. She's not stubborn, but persistent - if you don't want to deal with her, she'll keep coming at you. Xia He can't accept that some people just don't want to be social and get to know her. While it hasn't always ended in success, her tenacity has certainly managed her a few friends in the longrun.

Appearance:
Xia He stands just a hair above 5'2". Her appearance seems almost frail, with pale skin that flushes to a bright pink quite easily, it remains no wonder as to why she was given a name that means, "lotus". She is typically dressed in clothes ill befitting of her "status" - loose hoodies, shorts, long socks and sneakers, that sort of thing. It really is when in attending school or going to gatherings and events with her parents that the young Chinese girl bothers to "dress up", wearing skirts and brighter hues.

Xia He is frequent to wear her hair in a bun, set high atop her skull, nearly at the top, yet skewed just slightly to one sides. Her bangs are cut even and straight just short of her eyebrows, with two longer tufts of hair over the cheeks and before the ears. Xia He's hair is actually quite dark, contrasting with her fair skin tone and blue eyes. Her body type, despite her height, is still "in development", so to speak. With long legs and only a light muscle tone.

History:
Xia He's parents immigrated from China when she was but a toddler, as such, she doesn't really remember much of her home land. Much of her knowledge of China is from her parents and the many Chinese influences around their "cosy" home. Even her native language, Cantonese, is dominated by American influences. Her accent, when compared to her parents, is practically non-existent. Born as the first daughter, and the only child since, Xia He was never really presented with difficulty, or the concept of sharing what she owned. Given, her parent's strict teaching meant she didn't grow up spoiled, necessarily; but the youth was left sorely unprepared for the fact that not everything was her's to keep.

Not that her parents were helping any. As a young girl, she was gifted a Chinese Foo dog. It's coat was white, and it's eyes dark. He was her constant companion, even allowed to leave their yard when the end of Xia He's school hours drew near so that he could meet her at the gate. Xia He didn't neglect her human relationships, but they certainly seemed to fall second to the relationship she had with her dog, "Gong Niu". Even as she eventually became known as the "dog girl," Xia He really didn't care. As long as she had Gong Niu, she'd never be lonely.

Family:

Mei-Yee Qiao (36 yrs) - Xia He's mother, older than her husband in age and actual personality, she is definitely at the top of their small family hierarchy. A traditionalist when it comes to raise her child, she believes in engaging in social events and heavy-handed teaching for the "enrichment" of their daughter. Is a stickler for trying to teach her to speak Cantonese fluently, and is originally from Hong Kong. She works as a linguist and translator.

Hacken Qiao (32 yrs) - Xia He's father, and younger than his wife by five years. He believes in more cultural exploration, as an American born Chinese man himself. He doesn't make as much money as his wife, but is a talented tailor, he makes many of the more elegant clothing for the events his wife drags their daughter to, and often bases them thematically upon lotus flowers, given Xia He's name. It was his idea to get Gong Niu for their daughter.

Gong Niu (11 years old) - Xia He's faithful companion and partner in crime. He was given to Xia He not as a puppy, but as a rambunctious three year old. Even so, the pair or near inseparable even with the Foo Dog's growing age.

PUELLA MAGI

Language:
Chinese

Desires:
To bring back someone precious that has been lost; to be tied with them forever so that she may never experience the pain of loss ever again.

Obviously, her wish would probably result from the death of her dog. He's getting old. Whether or not this would bring her dog back can't be said, at least by me.

Emblem:
The Funtunfunefu-Denkyemfunefu or "Siamese Crocodiles" - a symbol of unity.

Weapon:
A Tessen; Sharp blades run along the folds of the fan's ornate length, hidden when it is folded. When opened, a swishing movement can result in a deep laceration, while when closed it may be used as a club.

Type of Magic:
As her wish would likely revolve around restoring and binding her to the life of another being, her magic would deal with creation and summoning. As a magical girl, her uniform would likely feature a stuffed animal or toy, which, bearing resemblance to her summoned creature, could be "deployed" much like a turret. That is, removed from her attire and thrown down, growing and bursting at the seams, taking on a life of it's own.

This creature would resemble some cross of a dog and bull, probably primarily white. What had once been seams connecting it's stuffed plush form's legs and body, now become armor like joints with a pulsing blue light visible between them. Most interesting about this construct would that it would be physically bound to his creator. Whenever deployed, a long ribbon would be tied around the creature's throat (or collar), with several more manifesting, connecting his horns to her wrists. Deploying her doll would limit her own abilities greatly, forcing her into a situation where she must remain idle, or all-out ride the creature. On the flip-side, however, this creation would be offensively quite powerful, and acting as her mount, could be more than capable of protecting or moving her from harm's way.

Beyond this I imagine that her power is still heavily influenced by the ability to tie things together. So she might be able to create powerful ribbons to bind one point to another, and as her strength as a Puella Magi grew, she might be able to connect more points, create more powerful ribbons, etc. Another limitation might be that be that she has to come into direct contact with each place she intends to manifest a ribbon. Such as having to place a contact point at Point A before running "or riding" her way to Point B and then placing a second point. At which point the ribbon would manifest and actually tie them together. Would be pretty useful against witches and their minions, even other magical girls.

Outfit:
I think the main themes within Xia He's magical girl form should be ribbons and lotus flowers. In fact, I imagine that wherever her Soul Gem was attached to/took the form of, it would have a lotus flower also pinned to it. Perhaps, even, take on the form of a brooch or pin that was lotus shaped. I think that the influences, as far as the actual clothing itself goes, should be Chinese - perhaps somewhat like a Cheongsam. Overall, something feminine, but also within the bounds of a child. Mentally, she is not an adult yet after all, so I don't think it should go too far into girly.

WITCH FORM:
Name:
Yue-Laou (An immortal symbol of love, known to "unite with a silken cord all predestined couples, after which nothing can prevent their union.")
Type:
The Lion Tamer Witch

The "Lion Tamer" bit comes from the fact that Shishi/Foo Dog statues tend to resemble lions, as well as dogs. Alternatively, she could simply be called the "Animal Trainer/Tamer, or "Animal Handler Witch" as I originally intended.

Description:
The witch who specializes in taming animals. Unable to hold her beloved in her hands any longer, she is forced to instead embed herself in his heart.
Nature:
Attachment
Appearance:
As a witch, Xia He would have become much more intimately conjoined with her bull-like construct. On initial look, Yue-Laou appears very similar to Xia He's former summon; a large, bull-like animal. However, even from a distance it is easy to see that something is amiss. What were once armor-like plates glowing with light, are now cracked; the blue beneath pulsing and oozing out like an infected wound. One of the creature's horns has been cracked at the top, and a slurry of blue seeps from it with each movement. This bull is unusually large, at least twice the size of any normal animal - and there's a reason why.

It's head can unravel, much like a lotus as it blossoms, to reveal the witch hidden within. What remains of the magical girl is now conjoined; or rather, embedded inside of her beloved summon. Even with it's head unraveled, and hunched on it's hind legs, only from the waist up is Yue-Laou's main body visible - a withered form wrapped in dulled blue ribbons, the ends clutched in each hand, which are in turn crossed against her chest. The bull body can unravel as far down as it's chest, and while there is no gore or organs within, it's "ribs" curl into horn-like shapes, which can close in on any it should ensnare.

Yue-Laou's more human like inner-body lacks a proper head. Much like her body, in it's place is a mass of ribbons tightly wound into a ball. Here and there, small tufts of black hair peak through; though not a sound, word or movement otherwise.

The bull's once primarily white body is now a dull grey, stained with the blue that seeps out from between it's joints. Yue-Laou's hoove-like feet glow with that unnatural blue, to the point of leaving smoldering, blue-tinted hooveprints wherever it stomps. It's body seems on the verge of falling apart, and the only thing holding it together are blue ribbons wound around it's body. In fact, in order for it's head to unravel, it must first shake it's skull with enough ferocity to loosen them. As such, an especially aggressive attack can inadvertently expose it's insides.
Barrier/Maze:
Yue-Laou has all that she needs in her world, and any intruder is dealt with severely. As such, her maze is designed to cater to her tastes alone. Her barrier begins almost innocently, and it can be mistaken for the path one might walk home from school, except decorated extensively with lotus flowers - to the point that even the petals line the concrete sidewalk below. Yet, criss-crossed ribbons and large sowing needles stop any from exploring the street or the distant, blobby shapes of houses that dot the opposite sidewalk. It is clear that the path alone is what is important, and it remains the only way towards Yue-Laou herself. The colors are light pink, and a warmth seems to envelope any who stay on the path; though it fades abruptly if one were to attempt to deviate. The oddest thing of all is that this warm sensation seems to emanate from the heart itself.

Aside from a few faint paw prints left in dirt along the path, it is quite clear; finally ending at the only accessible yard within her barrier. At it's center is a ridiculously large dog house, with a dog's bowl in front of it. The dog house itself easily dwarfs the actual home behind it, and the name on the bowl reads "Yue-Laou" in witch runes, while drawn in colorful markers is Yue-Laou's madness mantra, simply "PLEASE TAKE CARE OF ME" in runes on the white wooden panel above the opening to her dog house.

Entering the dog house leads one to Yue-Laou herself - though she does not seem to be just a single being anymore. The inside of the dog house resembles a room fit for a black tie party, with tables and decorations set up. The distant, incoherent chatter of humans dulls out any other noise until Yue-Laou makes her appearance, bursting through the floor like an abomination straight out of hell. It's first task would be to destroy anything stuffy and tidy - her second would be to gore any who would dare to disturb her.
Location:
Height Street, Daisy District, the path that Xia He would frequently go home along. Her influence has caused an almost unreasonable infatuation with one's loved ones, seen especially with one's pets. It has come to the point of being dangerous, where separation from another can has caused those afflicted to fall into great despair and desperation. So great is their emotional agony that they will begin to lash out violently in an attempt to keep their beloved from leaving their side.
Attack(s):
Yue-Laou is a fast-paced Witch, appearing more wild animal than as an intelligent, calculating opponent. Her bull outer shell will kick and gore, while the sticky blue fluid that leaks from seemingly every orifice is quite capable of inflicting serious burns. Not only this, but, similar to tassles, a pair of ribbons droop down from each of the bull's nostris; the soruce of which is revealed to be Yue-Laou's more humanoid-form itself.

Upon unraveling, Yue-Laou's pace slows considerably - however, her chance for inflicting a fatal blow increasing. Her splayed out head, shoulders and chest are quite large, allowing plenty of room for her own inner body as well as a set of "teeth" forms from curbed, horn-like ribs. The inner walls are additionally lined with the same blue liquid, and Yue-Laou is frequent to lurch forward and quickly reravel her body in order to snag any unfortunate girl within her depths.

Grief Seed: The top-most shape of the grief seed resembles a lotus flower, while inside is a unity symbol

MINION #1 FORM:
Name:
Nian
Duty:
Grooming
Description:
Existing to keep Yue-Laou looking like a true show dog, their purpose has been twisted by the witch's own grotesque shape.
Appearance:
Finely crafted Chinese dolls sporting short black hair, they stick out when compared to the absolute chaos that is Yue-Laou. Yet there is something unnatural about them, as a pair of spider-like metal legs are hidden beneath their silken red dresses, ready to unravel and allow Nian to scatter along the ground at will. Upon closer inspection, one might realize that these clattering appendages are in fact large sowing needles.
Attack(s):
They are small, and designed more for Yue-Laou's comfort than combat. However, they exhibit an almost symbiotic relationship with the witch, as they are known to swallow Yue-Laou's aciding blue fluid, and then spit it at intruders.

MINION #2 FORM:
Name:
Hundun
Duty:
Guardianship
Description:
The unwavering guardians of Yue-Laou's temple (heart). They are precious to her, due to their relationship with the one she once valued above all other living things. To destroy one in her presence is a certain wish for death.
Appearance:
Their shapes are very much dog-like, and in fact they look very much like the Shishi that frequent Chinese temples. Hundun appear always as a pair, carved from stone and completely immobile until approached. With a pair resting at the entrance to Yue-Laou's own "temple", they will sprint to life when approached, their carved joints cracking and scraping against each other.
Attack(s):
Even when attacking, their bodies remain stone - though their joints split and crack against one another, which is itself painful enough. Known to pounce and crush a potential enemy beneath their weight, they will also capture any "prey" between their teeth, and drag it off to their pack leader, Yue-Laou.

MINION #3 FORM:
Name:
Táowù
Duty:
Nagging
Description:
The remnants of unsatisfied desires and expectations heaved upon every girl's shoulders. They exist to do nothing but fill the head with doubts and the heart with anxiety.
Appearance:
Táowù's exist only as shadows within Yue-Laou's temple, chattering endlessly, casting shadows against the walls. Their shapes are vaguely human form, but one could argue that they are simply the shadows themselves.
Attack(s):
Almost entirely passive, they do little more than talk incessantly in the background. They seem to serve as an equal annoyance to Yue-Laou as they would be to any entering her realm; fueling her rage. Casting a light upon them can cause them to briefly disappear, cooling Yue-Laou's temper for a short moment.
