How can I tell if someone likes me?

i met a boy in in the start of 6th grade and ever since then we've been just friends. he's quite nice, but as most boys are, he can be rude at times to my friends/when he's with his own friends.
he got me into gaming with him and he's cool, we've flirted before but only briefly. i do like him a little bit, sometimes i feel disgusted by his attitude but other times i want him to talk to me so badly that i wait for him to get on IM.
if he wasnt in my life i would feel lonely, and he's shown signs that he likes me, but other times he seems to like my friends, which isn't a problem with me, but i dont want him to care less for me.
how can i tell if he likes me? and should i initiate anything?

Usually when a guy LOVES someone, he will look that person differently. You can see softness in his eyes something... like that...
When that happens, sometimes it's your friends that will notice it and would tell you that he look at you differently.
You can notice this yourself to.
Exception : Unless the guy behaves like that with every girl. Yup... I knew one.

I am sometimes missing my friends a lot but it doesn't mean I'm in love with them. They bring me happiness and I like to talk with them.
