Luminos Copil was an orphan. He has no recollection of his parents. He was found in the forests surrounding the Rukon district whilst only a few months old. The only item he had on him other than his clothes was a necklace with a small pendant. The pendant was obviously homemade- it seemed to be nothing more than a piece of colored broken glass that’d been dulled for his protection. Carved in the glass surface was what the orphanage that took him in accepted as his name: Luminos Copil, roughly translated from Romanian to “Bright Child.”
Luminos was like any other child, except perhaps for the fact that he always seemed a step behind in maturing; his childishness was always a little worse than his friends. Regardless, he was very popular and had many friends. His childishness also inspired a maternal instinct in the older girls at the orphanage. But as time wore on and all his friends grew into men, he remained stagnated at the age of 8. Neither he nor the caregivers had any idea why his body refused to grow.
Luminos was fascinated by soul reapers. Whenever they would come to town for any reason, he’d be glued to the window to watch. Other kids would go up to them for candy or even a pat on the head; any attention they got from soul reapers was cherished. Luminos, however, was too afraid to ever approach them. Luminos has many fears and anxieties, assumedly because he has effectively stopped maturing. A caregiver at the orphanage brought a soul reaper up to see Luminos once; the man was from the fourth squad and they believed he may have some insight into Luminos’ stunted growth. After a brief examination, the soul reaper provided his only hypothesis; He believed Luminos’ soul might be too pure to progress into an adult form.
Luminos paid no mind to the theory, but the caregivers began to treat him differently. He didn’t get punished as much and he seemed to always get more than the other kids. Overtime, his friends began to develop hostility toward him for his preferential treatment. Luminos became reclusive and his irrational fears escaladed. It took the friendship of Moriko Aori, another orphan who arrived some years later, to bring him out of his shell again.
Mori and Luminos were the best of friends. Gradually he returned to his normal self and even though he didn’t have as many friends as he used to, he didn’t care. Mori was all he needed. They would play pranks on the caregivers and when they got caught and Mori was put in time out while they looked over Luminos, as always, he sat with her in the corner. When the caregivers would ask him why he was in the corner when they didn’t put him in time out, he simply said, “I was bad too, and bad kids go to time out.” Then they’d leave and he and Mori would giggle and whisper about their next prank.
Mori grew up and Luminos stayed the same, as always. As she matured, Mori started to act more like a mother and less like a best friend. Luminos didn’t realize this for a long time, but the first time Mori sent him to time out, tears welled in his eyes and he screamed that he didn’t know who she was and wished she would die so the real Mori could come back to him. He stormed off and she went to clear her head in the woods. She never returned and is presumed dead. Luminos feels guilty to this day about his parting words with Mori, but he clings to something she always told him: “Never go back to being that quiet little boy in the corner; be the Luminos I love.”
During the war, soul reapers would periodically visit the Rukon district looking for people with high spiritual energy to recruit. They usually passed over Luminos because he seemed to be a child, but one soul reaper could feel his power and asked the caregivers about him. When they told him Luminos was by no means still a child as far as age was concerned, the soul reaper approached him. Long story short, he was invited to enroll in the soul reapers’ academy. Luminos, his best friend dead and the caregivers growing weary of him, accepted.
Luminos was a difficult student to manage, considering his immaturity; it took him one full year longer than average to graduate. Upon graduation, he was placed in squad 5 as an unseated member. Every woman in the squad treated him like their own child and all the men grudgingly tolerated his annoying presence as they knew being at odds with Luminos was being at odds with all the women. When Luminos first released his shikai, he was terrified of his zanpakto’s spirit form. He has grown to hate her and is therefore very reluctant to use her. Upon first releasing her, one eye turned the deep crimson color that her eyes boasted. He now hides the eye with an eye patch. It took him a long time, but he gradually rose in the ranks, only skipping 4th seat in his ascension. He is now the Lieutenant of squad 5.

Shikai Description: His sword transforms into a black bow that is bladed on each side except for where he holds it and he wears the cowl/cape seen in his Zanpakto’s spirit appearance. The bow’s string is made of reishi and the arrows manifest into actual physical arrows form his reishi. (Yes, it is similar to a Quincy)
Shikai Ability:
1. Black Arrow: An arrow is manifested from his reishi and shot at his opponent. If the opponent is wounded by this arrow, the wound will fester and the surrounding flesh will begin to die as if the enemy was a corpse. The condition will spread until Luminos exits his shikai.
2. Fade: Luminos surrounds himself in his cape and becomes temporarily invisible. His spiritual pressure is masked in this way as well. He must reappear before he can attack.
3. Multi-shot: Fire several Black Arrows at a time. They can change position in midair, but Luminos may not move while he moves the in-flight arrows.
4. Summon Skeleton: Using his zanpakto’s connection to the undead, Luminos causes a skeleton to raise from the ground. These enemies are weak and easily defeated, but are nearly limitless in numbers, though he may only have 5 summoned at a time.
