Jit was only when the womans hand came up to brush her hair over forehead that lana loked away eyes drawn by a flash of color she thought shed seen behind the viel of the womans hair. Lana's eyes narrowed a bit but her attention was soon drawn away again by a question. Her cheeks flushed a shade darker. "oh no!" she replied, "I was just looking for a friend." Her eyes fell tobthe book on the desk, "i sont mean to intrude but i just...happened to overhear the riddle. If you nee it solved im quote adept at puzzles...in fact i think i might an ida to the answer of this one already. Escher turned to the door when Evvie did, hearing a sounds at the door. Evvie spoke, inviting the person in with a single sentence. She came in, red with embarrassment. She said she was waiting for a friend. Believable enough, but she then realized that they were working on a riddle and offered her help. "Guess we could use alittle help. f that's alright with you, Evvie?"

Lana flounced into the room, words apilling from her lips. "well i havent deciphered everything but im certain about the answer to two portions of the puzzle and have some speculations as to the other." Reaching into her top, she pulled out pencil and a pair of glasses with lens that magnified her eyea to three times their normal size and dulled their sparkle. The corners of her smile into frown. "The firat four lines are refering to a certain person." she began, her voice monotone and academic"te gift amd the glittering are metaphorical refernces to mental gifts. The first being an ability to bridge the rift between words or time...speak to the dead perhaps or see in thw future. Feom thw next two lines i suspect its the latter. The las two lines also imply that because of thia ability thia peson holds knowledge or memories xoveted by many...or the ability itself is as rare as gold. So this has to be the only race with a rare gift to see into thw future: a seer." She looked up from the paper now sprinkled with words and marks to look between the two of them,"as for the place of power...i dont know. However i have some speculations. From the following lines...a place where the four elements come together...anceint stones that dont fail...cascading chill could refer to some sort of waterfall...but im very sure that stones that dont fail refers to a mountail top and the aicent stones are a ruin on said mountian top. A ruin on a mountailtop where the four elements meet or perhaps have met before." With that she set down her pencil and pushed the glasses off her eyes to rest on her forehead"thats what i got from it. EvvieEvvie looked to Escher after Lana finished. "Well, it would seem this young lady has the same idea as yourself, Sir Escher. We all know the location where four elements met. And since the only well-known seer was at that point as well, then you know where to go now." Evvie rummaged in her drawers, pulling out a map that had newer images drawn on it. Closer inspection showed the new images were estimations of landmarks in Jiaum after the Breaking. "Miss, it would seem you've put yourself in the position to be of aid to the nation of Ernya. We can compensate you as you so wish, including and up to citizenship. But we ask you complete this task with Sir Escher here first: travel to the mountain top of what was once the capital of Jiaum and see if you can find a way to open the portal that may be there."

"Jiaum?" She whispered. She began to shake her head, taking a few steps back. Orange dancing, above blue dyed back by the night sky, a hundreds voices in terror singing above the melody of a howling chill.
That same chill tearing her clothes, whipping her hair, flicking the tears from her cheeks, seeping into her skin and freezing her blood, coating her bones in ice. Black pressing around her, it's fingers tearing at the hand clasping tightly in hers, a hand that was the only warmth in a cold, black world, a hand that saved her even as she plunged toward a vortex...
Her next words trembled,"I-1 c-can't go back there," Her eyes widened,"
"I..I mean this seems a bit sudden, sending a complete stranger on an important task...and 1-I don't even know your names, and all this talk of portals, and-and the troupe, I can't just leave them and Marco and I-I...you know-"
Her babbling cut off, her eyes falling on Escher, "...where did the wings come from?" She stood for a moment staring, before letting out a groan.
"I'm sorry," She whispered, shaking her head,"This is all a bit...shouldn't there be some explanation or preparation before we go back hom...to Jiaum?|

EvvieEvvie sighed. She had hoped this would be much easier. "Okay. First, I am Adviser Evvie, Steward of Ernya. This is Sir Escher, displaced Knight of Jiaum. We've been trying to solve a riddle connected to a possible different dimension where we may be able to find things we could use here to fix many of the problems we've had recently. Sir Escher is a well-known ally of of our Lady and as such has been tasked with this mission. But I believe he will need some help. Despite the fact you feel to point yourself out as a stranger, nothing happens in this nation without it getting back to me. So your mention of a troupe tells me you are Lana, the one who entered the city earlier today with an entertaining troupe that was not suppose to show up until next week. Is that sufficient information for you?"

She closed her eyes and let out a sigh. Images still played in her head.
Am I ready to return to jiaum? She thought.
She opened her eyes.
