Solaris was born in the middle of the Devil's Eye Desert, raised by his family, the Kakurenbo. Life for him wasn't really that different from that of a human. He was educated by his parents, taught basic skills such as writing, reading, and hunting, and was brought up with good morals of how to act around others. Nothing was really that out of a human's definition of ordinary.
Around age fourteen, Solaris and his parents moved to the forests of Ernya and settled down there. They were unaware, though, that they had managed to make a home in a place where hunters frequently traversed and killed animals for food. Solaris was out looking for some food to bring home when he heard a call of distress from his mother. Solaris hurried back home to find that his mother had been cut down by one of the hunters and his father was fending them off. Solaris was told to run and keep running until he couldn't run any longer. He did so without a second thought, even though he knew very well that his father would be killed only moments later.
Solaris would make his was all the way into the Kishu Tundra, a place where not many Kakurenbo where he thought that Kakurenbo wouldn't be found, meaning they wouldn't be as hated. Solaris wasn't entirely accepted by society, but he was not ever attacked in the towns there. It was probably because he hadn't killed and eaten the hearts of any humans yet, meaning that he hadn't earned any of the infamous tails of the Kakurenbo. For years, Solaris just made a regular life for himself. He lived outside of the towns so that he didn't disturb anybody and he could easily travel to find places to fish and hunt by traveling to less snowy areas and then returning to his hidden abode. Solaris is now well into his adult life, but he now feels as if there is something more he should be doing with his life. Now he searches for that purpose.
