History|| Masahiko was born the youngest in the Otashi family. He had an older sister whom took him under her wing in times of trouble and fright. His father wished for him to train in the art of physical combat and when he was of age, began pushing him towards swordplay classes. His mother was against forcing her son to become something he wasn't comfortable with, but her husband insisted he loved fighting. Masahiko, however, didn't like the lessons he was being forced to do. He was among the less skilled in the class and was usually used as a warm up for the more skilled students.

As he grew up and eventually become more skilled in swordplay, rumors had it that something mysterious was taking shelter in the woods. These rumors eventually become just small talk of the town as time went by and no evidence against this was found. As Masahiko entered his final year of school, he became one of the well known fighters in the town. The woods erupted with a dark light one day as the town enlisted the help of the school and sent a small force to go into the woods and report back with any sightings of dark beings. Masahiko was one of the few students in the group. As he and the rest of the group entered the woods, a female elf shrouded by shadows stood before them before separating each of them from each other by desires and promises of wealth, power or love, then murdering them. Watching his comrades fall before him, Masahiko ignored the promises the female promise him and forced his companions to not either, but to no avail.

At last, Masahiko, the only one who chose to remain in the woods, entered the heart of the forest. The strange elf revealed herself as she introduced herself as Vivian, a corrupt mage who toyed with the elements and made her home in the woods. Vivian had taking a liking to little Masahiko and began watching him in class before sneaking to his home and invading his dreams to make him a better fighter and at the same time, tweaking his appearance so he would look more handsome than he would turn out. After explaining this, she taunted Masahiko by threatening to destroy the village unless he had her hand in marriage, to which Masa refused. Vivian frown and then began to fight Masahiko. The residents of the town said that in the middle of the night, explosions were heard, as well as clashes of steel and shouts. Many guards rushed to defend the woods, but were unable because of a force field put up by Vivian so they could fight in peace.

The battle raged for an hour until Masahiko had beaten the woman, the boy himself taking heavy damage. As Vivian lied dying in the forest, she weakly laughed as she had one last trick up her sleeve. Pointing a finger at Masahiko, she muttered a spell before her spirit left her body and went sailing towards Masahiko before going into his body. His spirit and Vivian's clashed until they merged while Masa fell on the ground, clenching his chest before passing out. He woke to find himself in the inn near town before feeling a bit awkward. His entire body was sore as he limped to the bathroom in his room and looked into the mirror, only to find he looked exactly like Vivian, but a bit younger and human looking. Hearing the noise from upstairs, the guards whom found her laying in the forest, unconscious and barely alive helped her back into bed and explained how they came across her. Masahiko nodded and let out a sigh before faking falling asleep in case they decided to ask her for a name.

As they left, Masahiko heard Vivian's voice talking to him before a small purple ball of flame appeared in front of him. Vivian then explained that before she had died, she cast a spell to share a body with Masa in order to continue living, but only in his body. The consequence of this was that Masahiko had to take her appearance in order for the spell to function correctly. Vivian and Masahiko chatted more until they became somewhat more friendlier. One upside that Masahiko found out was that because Vivian's essence was now his, he could use magic, but was not skilled enough to use the big spells like the ones she used against him. Deciding to explore the town, Masahiko got up and roamed around before coming across a flyer for Reed's Academy. Vivian read it with him and encouraged him to go to make himself more familiar with magic. He signed up under the name "Marissa Otashi" and began her new travels to the academy, a bit worried and anxious of what might happen along the way.
