Megaptera Novaeangliae

PostPosted: Tue Sep 18, 2012 2:53 pm

Palisade's surroundings were a beautiful sight. Especially when you knew that one day they would belong to you. A large and fancy dark grey carriage was piercing the fields of wheat right on Kingsroad, heading straight for Palisade. Inside of it were two people: the old driver was dressed in a black uniform, showing how his masters had both class and style, seemingly tired and around 50 his weariness was starting to take place as it was getting harder and harder to keep his eyes of the road. A bump. Then another one. The two horses in front of them definitely needed someone to guide them even though they had been on this road over a hundred times, probably. "What's that?!" a shout from the back of the carriage was heard "Drive carefully or I swear I'm going to make my parents have you beheaded as soon as we arrive home!!!" The boy whose mouth let those ugly words out without even the slightest tint of inconvenience was indeed the one who's parents owned the wheat plantations they were passing. He was a handsome boy- a bit taller than all the rest of his age, yet chubby with a slightly sturdy frame. "I'm very sorry, sir! It won't happen again..."

He was leaning to the floor of the carriage to pick up something he had dropped during those two bumps in the road. Something that belonged to him and him alone. Something precious.
He put it safely inside his black leather messenger bag and found himself petting the bag afterwards...

Soon enough they were near the center of Palisade. The boy needed to buy some ink, paper and new nibs for his pens. He needed all of that not only because of his studies his parents made him take upon but also, every now and then, he would go to the biggest library in their house (which was more like a manor... a palace), lock himself in and start writing poetry. Though, that was something he would never admit- he adored reading and writing poetry. He always bought the best of materials too! Only, the finest golden nibs were worthy to write his words down on the softest of paper. As they were already inside the dusty, yet well-organized streets of the bazaar the boy said to the driver "Stop and wait for me here."

The carriage stopped and the driver was the first one to get off of it. With a quick jump and then a few short but swift steps he opened the vehicle's left door and held a hand up above his head so the young master could allow him to help him make his way out. The boy was very well-dressed. One could tell by all the glares and young girls' giggles that were directed at him as soon as light hit his lightly-toned features. As soon as his expensive shoes reached the ground, with a very graceful and haughty walk he walked inside of a small but obviously expensive well-lit store, ignoring all the eyes that were on him, holding the shoulder strap of his leather bag a bit too tightly.

Megaptera Novaeangliae

Like Colbourne, Eluf was on a mission of his own in the same realm. Arriving to the city didn't take long at all. Not with his trusty steed, Axe. The deer was magnificent! Faster than any of the prize horses that were bred on his family's estate. It was amazing to ride such a powerful beast into town in no time at all; bareback, even! They came galloping in, easily weaving and staying out of others ways, before falling into a slower trot. The lithe man atop, dressed in formal garb for going out into society, gave an encouraging and praising pat to the black neck of his buck. Once they reached their destination, Axe was dismounted, and given a few soft cooed words in thanks for the ride. The stag snorted softly, nuzzling gently into those small hands his chosen had, sharp golden eyes darting to the side as a few individuals passed by. Instantly he went into defense mode, taking a close stance to the gentle soul that was Eluf, eyeing everyone within sight. Sighing softly, those honey and olive eyes looked around as well, giving a pleasant smile to who ever locked a gaze. Returning his attention to the buck, fixing the satchel he had at his waist, Eluf spoke quietly, "I'll just be a moment. Be good, alright?" he murmured, stroking that smooth snout a few times to help soothe the restless, and very protective buck. A firm snort was given in response... and that was that.

Walking into the store, which held utensils for writing, painting , along with other products for a writer or an artist of many kinds. He gave a polite greeting to the one who was manning the place currently, and surveyed a few of the other individuals within the confines with him. His gait was fluid, and graceful, his posture poised, eyes searching intently. Some new paper would be nice for watercolouring... since meeting his recent acquaintance, he'd found a great means of inspiration... and a bashful little smile couldn't help but curl its way onto his fair features.

Though little, the shop was very well-decorated and had a lot of pretty yet expensive matherials one could find very useful should one like to spend some time by himself, pouring out emotions and thoughts on a piece of paper. As Colbourne was walking around looking for golden nibs of a specific size and brand he saw a figure enter the store with the corner of his eye. A shorter boy with beautiful silky curles collected in a single ponytail gracefully walked in. Col couldn't help but notice how delicate, how tender everything about the strange boy seemed. He had never met him before, though, it was obvious that the shorter boy was not from the lower class. That very same moment our hero looked at the stranger who had just arrived he saw a tall dark sillhouette right outside the door of the small shop. Out of curiosity he couldn't help but take a couple of steps towards the door to see if he had actually glimpsed what he thought he had but he wasn't fast enough and the image in his head was only left half-completed and quite blurry as the other boy closed the door behind him.

Something happened and Colbourne felt the urge to open his messenger bag and check on his prized totem. It felt warm, warmer than usual as he traced his chubby fingers through the bright blue lines and he could swear that he saw it glowing with a faint glow as soon as his hand touched it. He closed the bag swiftly but cautiously as a customer walked pass him and gave the stranger a minacious look.

Looking back at the beautiful boy he somehow found very intriguing he saw him smiling to himself. It was quite obvious that the boy was well-mannered as well as that he came from a nice, rich family which always made a good impression on Colbourne. He finally found what he was looking for as his head turned down once again to look at the goods the shop was offering- a set of three differently-sized golden nibs, put together in a fancy box. Right next to them were all the different kinds of paper so he took some of the most expensive and best quality ones and headed for the ink which was in the front side of the store. Closer to the door, closer to the interesting boy and closer to what he think he saw outside.

Eluf took his time looking around the place, taking note of anything else he might be in need of. He was pretty set on just the paper though... but it didn't hurt to look around and see if any new shipments had come in. Inspecting some charcoals and brushes, he picked a few up for a closer investigation, turning them about, and checking their tips. All high quality... very nice. Placing them back, he moved on, steps leisurely until reaching the stacks of papers set out. They were all tied with a nice ribbon and bow to finish. Slender, delicate fingers brushed over the tops of a few of them to test their texture and surface. Some were smooth, some lumpy, and others had a cloth like makeup. Quite interesting... he enjoyed testing out the different kinds to see what they could do, and what they'd be best for.

As he picked up a particular stack, turning it in his hands, and pulling a sheet out, he noticed the other man who was nearby, sparing a glance to him, and a polite smile. But his gaze didn't linger more than necessary, returning back to the paper in hand, admiring its craftsmanship.

As he was on his way towards spending a little part of his crowns for the materials he had just gotten, the other boy's eyes met the cold black glare of Colbourne, though this time- not as cold as usual but somehow- friendly or even filled with a strange note of respect. Walking beside the stranger while he was waiting to be served so that he could take the new items home and return to the carriage and go home, he accidentally looked down at what was in the other boy'd hands- which was, indeed, some fine paper.

"That's real good quality..." Colbourne caught himself saying a bit too fast and a bit louder than how he expected. Smiling at the interesting stranger he felt like he just wanted to find a way to talk to him, to keep him company. It had been far too long since Colbourne had actually communicated with someone different than the workers on his and his parents' plantations and / or some business partners. And, after all, he was a seventeen-year old boy and, every now and then, he just liked some company. Someone to talk to. Not about business but about life... though, his life was pretty much all about business..

Eluf looked up as the unknown voice spoke, meeting the other man who'd been just paces off from him now at his side. Smiling softly, he nodded in agreement, fingers brushing over the parchment again in an endearing sort of manner, "Yes I have to agree. I think it will wonders with paints." he murmured in an appropriately light tone to match the store's vibe. A few had looked over at Colbourne as he'd spoken, but Eluf didn't seem to take mind to it. Patting the stack, he paid his attention back to the other boy, "Are you interested in such a paper, sir? An artist as well, perhaps? " he asked curiously. It wasn't often he got to meet others who were well acquainted with a brush or quill.
