Name: Alina
Age: 48
Gender:
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Craft/Rank: Master Starcrafter
History: Alina was born in a small cot hold, the eldest of two children. Her family never had wealth or prestige but made just enough to scrape by. She lived with her grandparents and uncles, aunts and cousins as well as her parents and little brother. When she was eight, a Journeyman Starcrafter came to their cothold and entertained the small children with stories of the stars and how things such as Thread could be studied, all of that stuff. Alina became almost immediately smitten with the craft of a world beyond her own. The Journeyman offered to take her as an apprentice. Her parents only wanted what was best for their daughter and seeing her excitement with the idea, sent her off into the big wide world. What? It's Pern. Most people don't even like their kids in Pern.
She dove into her work. Alina had issues from a young age when it came to dealing with people on a social level, far preferring her future Mastery as a goal as opposed to a dragon or a handfasting or children. The idea of children repulsed her and most men who wanted to wed often wanted children. Dragonriders were arrogant and distracted with their beasts - let them fly and kill the Thread, she would let them have their own lives. Alina never Stood and never wanted to. She had goals - she wanted to get her Mastery by the time she hit thirty turns.
At twenty seven, Alina hit the edge of a table on her high hard enough to send her to the ground. She went to the Infirmary for the injury - a huge black purple bruise that kept her in pain - and there she met a Healer by the name of Bereck. Unlike other dragonriders, he was a genuinely interesting human being. Sure, he had a scowl that could wreck mirrors and more prickles than could be accounted for, sure, but he possessed a brain and a sense of humor. She liked him, quite a bit. They hit it off and had a relationship for about a turn or so. They broke up due to mutual obsession with their craft, when she had just barely hit three months pregnant and neither one of them realized. She had no symptoms!
Insert a week post relationship. Then there was puke everywhere. She brushed it off as mourning (and she did mourn, she loved Bereck) and went about her work. Then came a tiny hard bump in her stomach. She did the math, she knew how far along she must be - at least five months and much too far belong to safely chill out between. And if we're going to be fair, she didn't try alternative methods to remove the child because it was Bereck's. She loved Bereck.
When the child was born, she named him Aleck and wanted to give him to the creche. His father said no and offered to take the child. ...she'd be a horrible mother to a young child, too consumed with her own work to be nurturing and kind - she thinks, anyway, but never found out as she handed him over to Bereck and poofed into her Crafting quarters to not see the boy.
Two years later she reached her goal of Mastery. She was 31, not quite the goal of 30, but she rationalized pregnancy set her back. Almost immediately, a job for a Master at Landing opened up for her and she went. she stayed at Landing for fifteen turns, enthralled in her work, and her second turn there she met a man named Nikkel. He was nice enough, sweet, smart, relatively handsome. They handfasted after two turns of experimental dating and were happy for the first seven.
When 38, Nikkel decided he wanted children. If she didn't want to raise a child with a man waaaay more like her than Nikkel, she would not be giving in now. She said no. They started fighting for a turn and decided to end it, especially when her workload became heavier. Five turns sped by and another position opened at trine.
Well, why not! She'd been at Landing a third of her life, time to switch things up.
Five years down the road, there was LE REVOLUTION. She took the side of LE RESISITANCE and ultimately they triumphed. Hells year. The refugees came... including an unnamed Master Healer and she suspects it may be Bereck. Probably with Aleck at his heels.
Awk-ward
Description: A tall(ish) woman of 5'10", Alina isn't really a sexpot to write home to your mother about, nor was she ever. She has a rather average body, a bit of curve, a bit of bust, and just enough booty it almost gets noticed. Her hair is plain, an ash_blondeish-brownish with grey streaking through, always a bit fluffy and usually kept in a practical ponytail. There are wrinkles at the corners of her eyes and laugh lines forming around her mouth on her medium skintone. Her eyes are hazel and she constantly has ink on her fingers from her work and glasses perched on her nose from age and hard use.
Personality: Alina is a nerdette to the greatest extent of the word, focused and driven on her work to the point of being labelled 'intense'. She is dedicated to her craft to the point of having few friends and more than enough paperwork.
It"s not that she's a mean person, nor a snarktastic one - Alinas idea of being mean is to look frustrated and give a tongue lashing that is, admittedly, mild. Alina has severe confusion when it comes to being outgoing and not awkward. She prefers working to attempting to socialize with the possibility of failure. It has led to more than one break up in her life.
Alina does not like babies or even small children. Groups of loud people put her on edge. A small huddle of friends is fine but people being loud and unruly are something of an irking point. Just - no. Any insecurities she has when in the center of attention, she tries to hide with a small smile and a bit of snideness or being all "LOOK I AM SMART AND THUS BORING please stop staring now."
And she is smart, very much so. She's also mild spoken, kind to the few companions she has, fair to everyone else, and prizes work above other people. Work is easier to deal with. When she loves, she loves and takes a loss of that very hair.
Other: Ahahahahaha... I seriously need to make a dude character.
